Does this mean that FINALLY there will be no more system updates?!

Joking aside.  It's tough to compare the DS and 3DS for me.  Granted the 3DS is automatically better because you can play the DS library on it haha.  Both libraries had fantastic games.

My favorite DS game got a remake:  Radiant Historia.  My favorite DS series was continued as well as got some remakes:  Etrian Odyssey.

I really enjoyed Bravely Default and Bravely Second.  I love the music for both as well.  Honestly can't wait for more info on this.

Even the name is intriguing.  It's not a "third" game?  Is this pretending "second" didn't happen?  Is this a split in the story in some parallel universe?  Time will tell.

TalkBack / Re: Why My Attitude on Mobile Games has Evolved
« on: August 20, 2019, 03:50:55 PM »
This is an extremely well written and thoughtful narrative.  In my eyes it is identical to EA sports:  As a player I love to play the games I love, but if I were a game company I would make EA sports games.  Why?  Because you do nothing but roster updates and it still sells millions.

Same thing, as a player I will absolutely be playing my beloved RPG's and sometimes obscure titles that are often unheard of by most people.  However as a game company I would only be making mobile games squeezing every last nickel and dime out of people.  Why?  BECAUSE THEY PAY IT!  Lol.

When we stop and think about it, no one is forced to buy annual copies of Madden or buy loot boxes (in countries where this is not illegal).  But they buy them.  There is always this seeming paradox between what people "want" and what people "buy."

I had a LOT of fun with Citizens of Earth.  Still love listening to it's soundtrack too.

Considering GF invests about 0% of their time in the story of the games it is really hard to justify "oh we don't have the time to ya know actually have all the pokes in the game" excuse.

It is honestly too bad.  Consider:  I have a full collection of basically everything.  One of every species of Pokemon, including every possible form (also if female forms are different) as well as a complete event set, and legendary sets from every single game.  Not to mention all of my generational battle teams.  IDK about you but I'm super organized and everything is in a precise order.  Now we hear that "oops!" I actually cannot transfer this entire collection to Sword/Shield.  Then pray tell, what the crap SHOULD I transfer?

(A) Break up my incredibly organized collection and keep a subset on Bank/Gen7 whilst putting the ones I can actually use on Home/Gen8?  That's dumb. Plus this causes TWO non-organized and incomplete sets in TWO different locations.  Sorry that's super dumb.
(B) Just transfer all of it to Home even though without backwards transfer Home acts like a "prison" and you can't ever actually use any of them (until maybe a 2021 game)?
(C) Just not transfer anything and keep everything on Gen 7?

As you can see, there is no satisfiable solution and anyone who thinks it is 'no big deal' obviously doesn't really play the games or have anything worth transferring.

We better get Etrian Odyssey on Switch because certain *cough* first party publishers *cough* are making incredibly idiotic and plain stupid decisions.  Absolute stupidity.

Either they don't value their employees' opinions but do value their customers' or they don't receive any negative feedback until the idea is revealed to the public.

I've noticed that too.  Obviously I will did not grow up in Japan so culturally I won't understand.  To name one example, Zelda Wind Waker.  You have to seriously reply a song *every* time you want to change the wind direction whilst sailing?  The addition of the magic sail in the HD remake pretty much guaranteed that it was a design flaw.  This is just 1 of 100 examples but each situation I wonder "Why did *anyone* think this was OK!?"

TalkBack / Re: Super Mario Maker 2 Announced
« on: February 15, 2019, 01:03:00 AM »
Doing some research on the banned levels I was reminded about another detail.  The banned levels were permanently flagged!  You couldn't try editing them and re-submitting them even if you wanted to.  That needs to change for the sequel.

After uploading a level it contains that yellow "upload icon" but if you immediately pop it open in the editor, change one thing and save it will remove that upload icon and you can then re-upload this at any time.  As long as you don't connect to the internet AFTER a course has been deleted you can still save it in this fashion.

If you get the red cross through your yellow icon it's game over -- unless you have a modified Wii U.  Mwa ha ha!  This requires you to inject your course into a different course file save.

But totally agreed, this should definitely NOT be a thing in Mario Maker 2.

TalkBack / Re: Pokémon Let's Go Demo Now Available
« on: February 13, 2019, 01:57:59 PM »
Yeah, yeah, I'll get to Let's Go eventually.  Honestly though, to be blunt, lately I've had more fun with Yo Kai Watch and Dragon Quest Monsters than I have with Pokemon in a long time.  And the travesty of it I just played (and had a blast with) Terry no Wonderland [Terry's Wonderland 3D] which was never even released in North America.

Oh well.  I guess the only games them Americans like to buy contain mindless killing or football.  OK, EA should totally make a first-person shooter Madden game.  There's a fresh idea!

On my most recent Mario RPG playthrough...I used tools and gave myself "128 jumps" and so when I got to Monstro town I received the reward items (I've never been able to get 100 jumps legit  :-[).  I had heard that equipping everything on Mario makes him so fast that you move before Culex even gives his speech.  It's true!  You can sneak in a Mario move before he starts the "I am matter/antimatter spew."  In my opinion it made all three Jinx fights easy and Culex was mediocre.

Kudos to you Atlus.  So what if there isn't going to be English voices?  English text is fine by me.  Seriously though, 3DS in 2019?

1) Etrian Odyssey Nexus
2) Yo Kai Watch 3
3) Persona Q2

I would love to ask my 2011 self "Do you think you will be playing not 1...not 2...but THREE brand new 3DS games in 2019?"  Insane, absolutely insane.  (But absolutely happy!)  ^_^

Wow.  If the WIP MP4 got canned does that mean...it was actually worse than Other M?  Is that even possible?

Sarcasm aside... Oh scratch that I have some left.  With literally thousands of games in existence I always find it baffling how announcements like this even matter to people.  I wrote down a list of about 30 games that I may (or may not) get to in 2019.  This list contains only released games, and these days I only buy one game at a time and beat it.  No more accruing backlogs for me.  And this doesn't even count already-owned games that are due for another playthrough.  But hey, I guess now that it is 2019 some people can't even play games released in 2018 because that just wouldn't be cool or something.

NOW sarcasm aside... It's hard to believe it has been 5 years since I played the Prime trilogy last.  All three of those games would fit on my personal top 20 all-time list somewhere.  Talk about one solid set of games.  It is equally baffling to me how this franchise is not popular in Japan.  But hey, to each their own.

Yeah, after it sank in that in January 2019 the Wii eShop is shutting down permanently (hence I better NEVER LOSE OR DELETE my LEGIT purchases EVER) it impressed on me the futility of digital purchases.  You never "truly own" them.

Holy smokes.  Someone needs to quit their day job and write nursery rhymes instead, and become rich and famous.

Kudos for an entire review in poetic verse!

Wait....is the author the same person who wrote the dialog of Child of Light?

Seriously though, totally epic!

TalkBack / Re: 20 Years of Pokemon In North America: The Memories
« on: September 28, 2018, 02:57:43 PM »
Because it's bothering me:  "...enough to pique my interest..."

I could write a 50-page essay about my Pokemon memories.  But considering I doubt anyone would even care here is a 2 paragraph version.

The first game I got was Red.  The only way I could play it was a Super Game Boy via my SNES.  In fact the first time I ever bought a Game Boy was my beloved Teal GBC when Gold/Silver were released.  For me the funnest aspects of this franchise are (1) Collecting and (2) Battling.  Here is a sentence containing my opinion for every generation.
1)  Amazing and beautifully broken.
2)  I fell in love with this later in life when I realized it was just as broken as Gen1. (Both Gen 1 and Gen 2 allowed for Arbitrary Code Execution, which ironically is retained in the VC releases so I can transfer as many shiny Mew's and shiny Celebi's as I want to Poke Bank!)
3)  This generation made me fall in love again considering in the 2000's Gen2 was not on my good side.
4)  No.  Just NOOO.
5)  Finally a breath of fresh air, for the first time since Gen 1 I could play an entire game and catch everything I see as I wasn't constantly saying "Oh this is a Gen 1-4 Pokemon and I have it already."
6)  FINALLY the franchise goes into 3D, and these games were great too.  However the fact so few new Pokemon were added it is also kind of a sad disappointment.
7)  FINALLY so many needed fixes such as HM removal, not using the same 8 gym formula, etc.  Amazing games.

Here is my most recent event.  Considering I owned Pokemon Stadium I stored all of my GB critters on the N64 carts.  (Good thing too, as my GB cartridge batteries have died) After replacing said batteries I transferred my Pokemon from Stadium to the GB games, successfully extracted the save data, injected this save data into my 3DS Virtual Console titles, and then transferred my legit Gen1/2 Pokemon into the Pokemon Bank.  (This requires a modified 3DS and Everdrive 64 by the way) I think it is the most epic thing to have my very-first-ever-Pokemon Charizard on my Pokemon Sun cart.  EPIC.

It's about time.  I was sitting here thinking about the possibility of another fan translation like we did for Dragon Quest Monsters Terry 3D and Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 3.

It's nice to know instead of investing hours and hours into a project I can pay a whopping $40 instead.  ^_^

That's flat-out a Banjo-Kazooie Honeycomb with an eye. Apparently, that's all the creativity it takes to create a Pokemon nowadays. That and a set of keys, apparently.

Rareware should sue Nintendo.

Does any one remember back in the day when we had to have a different electronic device for everything?  Like you had a pager so if someone wanted to alert you they would ping you.  You could hope in the car and boot up the GPS to find directions.  Don't forget your blackberry so you could have access to all your address book information and equivalent.  Some people would have a camera in the car's glove box in case they wanted to take pictures.  And finally don't forget a cell phone could actually call people....wirelessly!

Isn't 2018 technology amazing?  You only need one device to do ever.......oh wait.

I have consistently said that my favorite Final Fantasy game on Nintendo consoles is the black sheep of the family (Crystal Bearers for Wii).  I don't know what to do with my life now.

Right, and OMG.... bikinis in Tokyo Mirage Sessions are too sexual, we should totally edit those out for American players.

(I understand the publisher difference here but just letting out some stupid censorship salt)

I'll never understand chibi.

One thing I am not a fan of is RPG boss rushes considering it's not incredibly fun for me...and FF4: After Years was enjoyable until the final dungeon that is NOTHING. BUT. EVERY. FINAL.  FANTASY.  BOSS.  EVEEEER.

What's still in the pipeline for 3DS? Luigi's Mansion and Mario & Luigi?  Anything else?

I hope they finally explain the online service.

Etrian Odyssey X.  But maybe you were meaning first-party-only titles.  Still, it got me thinking Persona Q2 is still yet to be released in Japan.  Is there *any* chance that sometime deep into 2019 even that game will be localized to the West?   Crazy to think 3DS games are still on the horizon.

22
YES!

Wow, a Nintendo 3DS game release in 2019?  Keep 'em coming Atlus!

I have done bad things to my Wii U lately (and by "bad" I mean "voided my warranty") and am actually replaying Etrian Odyssey III on my Wii U.  So more Etrian news makes my day.  Although to be perfectly honest.... I hope this franchise lives on somehow.  (Switch???)

Follow up to RPG Maker Fes?  Ears perked!  Honestly I don't know why I would be excited:  I've had it on my 3DS for some time but I can't pull myself away from Mario Maker when it comes to my "game editor" free time.

Yo Kai Watch 3 anyone?  Anyone?  Nintendo?  ......Atlus?

We may have to rely on a fan translation patch for YW3, but glad to see yet another 3DS game to be released!

« on: May 21, 2018, 10:40:23 AM »
Hey look, Amazon has Resident Evil 7 for $23.69 for PS4, and I can own it...for like EVER!  Reading this reminded me of companies doing not-so-brilliant things and wondering why it didn't go well commercially.

Does anyone else remember...

1)  When EA released the Mass Effect Trilogy on XBOX360 and PS3 and then charged full price for Mass Effect 3 for Wii u?  That's smartZ!
2)  Nintendo ran an "experiement" with the GBA e Card Reader of selling NES Classic game cards for an unreasonably high price.  I don't even remember the price (any one??) but I remember thinking "Are you kidding me??  That much for NES games in the early 2000's?"

I had a lot more but suddenly got busy/lazy.
