My pre-order is through Best Buy and appears to be in transit.

TalkBack / Re: Multiple Games Announced In March Indie World
« on: March 17, 2020, 08:02:04 PM »
B.ark looks really cute. If the gameplay is solid I will definitely get it. I am also interested in Moving Out as it appears to be an Overcooked-like.

ICO (PS2)
I seem to be pointing out a lot of flaws but I really enjoyed this game a lot.  It's hard to describe what makes it good as the gameplay is just fun and requires a lot of thinking.

Are planning to play Shadow of the Colossus and/or The Last Guardian next? I highly recommend both if you enjoyed ICO.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Run The Series 9: Metroid
« on: March 16, 2020, 09:50:27 PM »
I am a little late to the party with Metroid having just played Super Metroid as my first in the series about 5 years ago. I then played the original and actually enjoyed drawing a map on graph paper. I then started the Prime trilogy on Wii U. I bought it when it went on sale for $10! I got a little frustrated with Metroid Prime when I felt like I couldn't see the environment well enough to know where to go next. Then last year when I played Echoes I enjoyed it more. It is by far my favorite in the series (take that James Jones). I also played the Samus Returns game on the 3DS and really like that. Next on my list to play is Corruption which I am really looking forward to. I would like to play all of them at some point but it is just a matter of finding the time.

TalkBack / Re: CONFIRMED: E3 2020 To Be Cancelled Due To Covid-19
« on: March 12, 2020, 09:21:48 AM »
It was mentioned above that the announcements, arguably my favorite part of E3, could still be delivered in online videos. I wonder if the press playing demos could also be done remotely. Could developers and publishers give the games press online access to demos of games and still have the software be secure? They could then report on them with hands on previews and first impressions from their homes or offices all around the same time of year.

While it seems to go against your desire to avoid additional "stuff" I recommend all PS4 owners to get a PSVR. My favorite experiences on the machine have been with games like Astro Bot, Tetris Effect, and Farpoint.

This list reminds me I really need to play Ghost Trick, Picross 3D round 2, and Fire Emblem: Awakening. For the record my number 1 is Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze.

If there is another Kong added I think Dixie deserves it.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: The Animal Crossing Switch Thread of Madness
« on: March 06, 2020, 01:10:55 PM »
One of the main differences is that Animal Crossing runs in real time as opposed to days being just a few minutes.
That is probably a good thing. There was a week where I was so hooked on Stardew Valley that I played like 8 hours a day because that day loop was so short and kept saying "just one more day". This sounds much more relaxing.

I am picking up my light suit from the cleaners today so count me in

I have not heard of any of these except Cave Story. I am noticing several with 3D in the title which is expected. I think the best title award should go to "Crazy Chicken: Pirates 3D".

This will be my first Animal Crossing game. The closest thing I have played in to AC is Stardew Valley, which I enjoyed. Are these similar? What are the main differences?

There's always the EA excuse of "only Nintendo games sell on Nintendo systems". LOL.
They have released Fe and Unravel which are pretty "Nintendo" as far as EA games go. One obvious missing port is Plants Vs. Zombies.

4. Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon - 260:03

That is a decent chunk of time with Dark Moon. I assume you dove deep into the multiplayer? I just played the main campaign and put it down. Are you into the multiplayer with LM3?

I just picked up the SNES controller joy-cons. I did not get them when they first released and I think they were unavailable for a while. Well they are back in stock.

You do need to be a switch online subscriber to get them.

Podcast Discussion / Re: RetroActive 46: Rhythm Thief
« on: February 06, 2020, 09:44:50 AM »
I acquired Rhythm Thief as part of a Nintendo Humble Bundle (I wish they would do another one of those). I probably would not have picked up until now otherwise. I really enjoyed it and especially enjoyed the visuals (great 3D), writing, and music. I found some of the swiping to be difficult to register but I am glad they tried something more novel than pushing buttons. I found the French setting to be interesting and would like to hear from someone familiar with French culture what they thought about this aspect of the game.

It is worth remembering that Limited Run should be releasing an Atooi collection sometime this year with Mutant Mudds on it.

After the switch passes the NES/Famicom the next milestone is the 3DS which is currently at 75.7 million units.

I have only played Super Paper Mario and Color Splash and enjoyed both. I will be happy with any Paper Mario game and look forward to one coming out this year.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: The official NWR joycon graveyard.
« on: January 28, 2020, 08:11:34 AM »
I have 3 pairs of joy-con. The red/blue pair that came with my launch switch, a grey pair I bought at the end of year 1 and the splatoon color ones. Both the red/blue and grey had the the disconnect problem that I fixed using conducting tape. They also had drift in the left sticks so both have been sent in for repair and returned for free. The splatoon ones have worked fine so far. I also took the straps off the red/blue pair to make them better to use for ARMs.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: What will Nintendo release in 2020?
« on: January 27, 2020, 02:21:59 PM »
Here are my predictions for Nintendo's first party line up in 2020
  • Either BOTW 2 or Bayonetta 3 (but not both)
  • A mini-game collection (Super Mario Party 2, Wario Ware, etc.
  • A Mario RPG (Paper Mario or Mario and Luigi)
  • A Mario Platformer (2D or 3D)
  • A sports game (probably Mario)
  • A Wii U port (could be one of the above, my guess is Super Mario 3D World)
  • A 3DS port (could be one of the above, my guess is Kid Icarus: Uprising
  • Something from a new IP
  • Something from an IP we have not seen in a while
  • A Kirby game
  • A Donkey Kong game of some sort
