General Gaming / 6th Annual NWR Four on Four
« on: April 01, 2026, 06:30:20 PM »
Hey there forum fools! It's April and you know what that means...time to take those DVDs out of your PlayStation 2, gesture to your Xbox Kinect, find 6 AA batteries for your Game Gear, and put a game key card in your Switch 2. That's right, it's the fourth month of the year and this will be the 6th annual Four on Four community event!

The basic idea is to complete four games from four different systems during the month of April. This will encourage us to play more games as well as games on different systems. Feel free to modify the rules as you see fit. You could use the system the game was originally released on rather than the system you played it on. Maybe you just play four games on four different systems without beating them.

Just post the games you are playing and what system you are playing them on and have fun! I also like to report back when I beat or complete a game and have this temporarily take over as the "What is the last game you beat?" topic of the month.

With 2025 officially over it is time to start another year of gaming. What better time then to post your records of games played, beaten, or completed. Personally I like to hear what system the games were played on, how long they took, whether you beat them any% or 100%, and if they were first plays or replays. Of course, feel free to post as little or as much as you want.

General Gaming / Shocktober VI: Curse of NWR
« on: October 02, 2025, 12:01:03 AM »
It's Shocktober again and time for our slightly spooky version of a "what have you been playing" forum topic.

When does this start?

Shocktober begins right now, and will last the entire month of October, ending after Halloween night.

What should I play?

Anything that falls under the classification of a "scary" game. Survival horror, action horror, a horror-themed FPS, anything with zombies, etc. In the interest of having fun, this can be more of a loose definition of what defines a scary game, and constitute anything that is more-or-less "spooky themed". Here are a few games that will come out this month:
  • Little Nightmares 3
  • Bye Sweet Carole
  • Plants versus Zombies: Replanted
  • Mina the Hollower
  • Hannah

You can think of this as another Backlaugust if you want -- You've probably got horror games in your backlog, and it's time to play them. How many games you want to play is up to you, whether that's just one game or a few games. Any platform, doesn't matter. They can be new games, old games. Even horror games you've already beaten long ago and want to replay. You don't have to choose all of your games up front; you can if you want, but it's fine to just take it one-game-at-a-time.

Here are the previous years' threads:
[2024] [2023] [2022] [2021] [2020].

If you are new to the site, welcome, and just post about the games you are playing, beating, and completing in this month of August 2025. Hey there forum fiends! It's April and you know what time it is...time to put ROMs in those TurboExpresses, connect those Saturns to the NetLink Modems, grab those GameCubes by their handles, and take out a loan to be able to afford an Apple Vision Pro. That's right, it's the fourth month of the year and this will be the 5th annual Four on Four community event!

Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo Switch Forum Favorites
« on: February 14, 2025, 04:55:28 PM »
As we approach the launch of Switch 2, what better time than to take stock of all the awesome games we played on Switch. While any general favorites list will likely include the usual suspects, in this topic we will highlight a specific genre, publisher, or some other characteristic to narrow our focus and in doing so reveal a broader set of great Switch games.

I am thinking about once a week (or two?) I will post a category for us to consider (though others can surely do this as well - especially if I slack off  :-[) and then everyone can chime in with their favorite(s) in that category. Just try and stick to games that are available on Switch.

General Gaming / Shocktober V: The Dream Child
« on: October 01, 2024, 12:17:18 PM »
It's Shocktober again and time for our slightly spooky version of a "what have you been playing" forum topic.

When does this start?

Shocktober begins right now, and will last the entire month of October, ending after Halloween night.

What should I play?

Anything that falls under the classification of a "scary" game. Survival horror, action horror, a horror-themed FPS, anything with zombies, etc. In the interest of having fun, this can be more of a loose definition of what defines a scary game, and constitute anything that is more-or-less "spooky themed". Here are a few scary games that have recently come out or will come out this month:
  • Emio - The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club
  • Luigi's Mansion 2 HD
  • Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2
  • Until Dawn (remake)
  • Silent Hill 2 (remake)

You don't have to pick up a new game to get into the Halloween spirit, consider playing some Luigi's Mansion multiplayer, a spooky course in Mario Kart or Mario Party, taking part in the Animal Crossing festivities, or just putting on a spooky in-game costume and sharing a picture on the forums.

If you're not sure, just check out the previous years' threads
[2023][2022] [2021] [2020].

Who should participate?

Do you:
  • Enjoy scary games?
  • Have at least one horror game in your backlog?
  • Plan on buying a new horror game?
  • Really love Halloween?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, then you should do this!

The purpose of this is a little less about seeing how many games we can beat, but for everyone to share in the experience of playing something scary. A good horror game can be a tough thing to get all of the way through to the end, but with some moral support from the rest of the community that's going through the same thing, maybe we can all make it back into the light by November! That's what it comes down to -- having fun, and being scared shitless. And being scared shitless is a lot more fun when being scared shitless as a group.

One last thing -- for your fellow NWR-er who hasn't played every game, try using spoiler tags whenever possible for anything major that's story-related, or just in general anything that should not be spoiled.
