Title: What Virtual Console Games Do You Want? (Realistic Possibilities or Not!)
Post by: Morari on June 12, 2008, 03:53:01 PM
I was given a Wii Points Card the other day as a gift and realized just how uninteresting a large majority of the Virtual Console games are to me. That got me to thinking about what I would like to see, and thus I set up this vague think tank. Don't worry if what you want won't ever, in a few million years, make it to Virtual Console. Instead, have fun and list some titles that you remember fondly. For me, my list is largely Genesis games because I never actually owned an SNES (or N64 for that matter). I would imagine that there is quite a bit of overlap in the two however, so don't worry!

Also, if you're wondering, I already had 100 points left over on my account from the last time I purchased a few games, so I used my newly acquired Wii Points Card to grab up Punch-Out, Devil's Crush, and Dr. Mario Online Rx. Anyway, here is what I could come up with off the top of my head.

NES
Battletoads
Blaster Master
Captain Skyhawk
Duck Hunt
Metal Gear
Snake's Revenge
NARC
Snake Rattle & Roll

SNES
Chrono Trigger
Earthbound
Super Punch-Out!!

Genesis
Battletoads & Double Dragons
Battletoads in Battlemaniacs
Blaster Master 2
Crue Ball
Dinosaurs For Hire
Gauntlet 4
The Lost Vikings
Norse By Norsewest: Return of the Lost Vikings
Marble Madness
Out Run
Paperboy
Paperboy 2
Road Rash
Road Rash II
Road Rash III
Rock N' Roll Racing
Smash TV
Zombies Ate My Neighbors

N64
Castlevania
Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness
Doom 64
Excitebike 64
Harvest Moon 64
Micro Machines 64 Turbo
Mortal Kombat Trilogy
Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero
Road Rash 64

Oh, and how about some Sega CD and Saturn games?!

Dracula X, Blast Corps., Final Fantasy VI

+1 for all these.

I'd love to see Space Station: Silicon Valley.  I never played that and I'd love to give it a shot.  Sin & Punishment would have been the first words out of my mouth here, but thankfully that prayer has been answered.

I'd also love to see NHL 95 on the Genesis (a.k.a. the hockey game that Vince Vaughn plays with his buddies in the movie Swingers), although licensing restrictions would totally neuter it I'm sure.

For the NES, I will not rest until I see Karnov gets its proper shine on.

If its Super Punch Out you want, I'd recommend Fight Night 2 for the Cube.  I picked it up for 7 bux and Super Punch Out was included in the game!  Additionally, once you beat it, you can play as Mac in Fight Night.

As for myself, I'd like to see Extra Innings and Super Mario Kart!

I didn't realize. Those are certainly interesting pack-ins. How is Fight Night itself?

Sonic 3 & Knuckles

That is easily one of my favorite games of all time. I only failed to mention it because I have the Sonic Mega Collection from the GameCube. The Virtual Console would certainly do well to add it however.

Arcade versions of:

Donkey Kong
Punch Out
Duck Hunt

Plus Strider (Genesis) Sidearms (TG16)
Samurai Shodown 1-2 (NeoGeo)

You can get Strider if you can find Strider 2 for the PSOne it comes with.  (Which is why I even bought the second one)  Though I like to play the NES Strider.
Rugby game.  There was one on the Sega Genesis and I really liked it.  I want to play a modern Rugby videogame as well.

Online enabled Mule.  I've played it before and its not bad.  I actually like a Blast Corp remake.

For the record I probably still be playing Brawl if it had Strider

I want more import titles.  A few off the top of my head:

Far East of Eden series
Twinbee Rainbow Bell Adventure

there is already way to many games on there I want as it is, but I will play along.

My wish list is as follows.

For these I don't care which version as long as it's NES or better.

Joust
Defender
Missile Command
Pong
Pitfall
Asteroids
Ms. Pac-Man
TMNT 2 NES (or the actual arcade game if they can)
Mortal Kombat (I'd prefer Sega CD Genesis over SNES but the arcade would be best)
XEXYZ NES (If this game does not come to VC I will be pissed, with all the garbage Hudson is putting on there this game should have a fair chance.)
Duck Tales (I don't care who you have to sleep with Reggie, make it effing happen!)
MMPR- Genesis (the fighting game not that other pile of garbage)
Forgotten Worlds- Genesis
um some Mega Man please. Never mind I have the collections, I want the *real* Mega Man games damn it.
Ring King- If it's already up I haven't looked for it but if it is it's on my to get list.
Popeye- damn it Nintendo how hard is it to put this up? You already burned through all your crap NES games now get to the good stuff.
Kirby Super Star SNES
Kendo Rage SNES
Some NBA Jam, I don't care which one.
Smash TV, any it don't matter hell put them all up I'll pick which one I want or get both.
Sonic 3-D Blast, the REAL Sonic 3-D Blast not the Genny port.
Some Sega CD games already.

Theres waaaaaaaaaaaaaayy to many to list but those are the ones I am kinda hoping for.

Also Marvel Vs. Capcom 1 & 2

As much as I would love Marvel vs. Capcom 2, weren't they exclusive to the Dreamcast?

Rat, Missile Command would be perfect as a 500 point Wii Ware game with pointer controls.

Not Gameboy Advance? It's actually rather surprising that we haven't seen a Gameboy Player for the Wii yet, as that was a pretty cool addon for the GameCube.

Haha, still haven't played it!  I can't pull myself away from Super Punch Out when I pop it in, I love that game.  But Fight Night 2 did receive excellent reviews.

It's also on Capcom Classics Collection Vol. 2 for the PS2 and Xbox.  But since these are on other consoles I think it's fair to say that having it on the VC would be worthwhile.  Different audience and all.

I want arcade perfect Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr. and Mario Bros.  Every other company in the world has some sort of arcade classics compilations except Nintendo.  Instead we just get inferior three-level Donkey Kong again and again.  There's no excuse for that.  Arcade Donkey Kong is in Donkey Kong 64 but those other two are MIA.

Arcade games in general would just be cool.  Seriously, aside from laziness, why are we still getting NES versions of Pac-Man and Dig Dug?  Those are relics and really have no reason to exist now that consoles can easily handle the arcade versions.  Some home versions of arcade games are different enough that they still have purpose but these really don't.

GBA games would be a nice addition too. I just suggested what I wanted out on the Virtual Console that which I do not have in physical form.

I don't think that it was ever released on any system currently supported by the Virtual Console, but I would like Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo. Until that day, I will just continue to play the Puzzle Kombat mode in the GameCube version of Mortal Kombat: Deception.

Perhaps Capcom could put out a version of Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix on WiiWare...

As I've stated before, Ogre Battle would be fabulous.  I wish SOMEONE would offer the original Darkstalkers or that old PSOne game One Piece Mansion...not that I have a PS3 with which to download One Piece Mansion in the first place.  Bleh.

So far I haven't bought any VC games that I have on NES/SNES/N64/other cart except for Link to the Past. That will probably continue for a while.

For SNES:

Fire Striker

Mario Paint

Strike Gunner

Super Punch Out

Turtles Tournament Fighters

For N64:

Majora's Mask(I have this one on cart but our N64 analog sticks are messed up.)

For genesis (32X):

Virtua Fighter

Majora's Mask(I have this one on cart but our N64 analog sticks are messed up.)

Definately. I don't know why I didn't think to mention that one, unless it's because I have the Zelda Collector's Disc and can already play it whenever I want on the Wii.

I don't know why Nintendo picked 43 MB as the WiiWare limit, but Majora's Mask would almost certainly be over that, being a 64 MB cartridge.

Strider was a different game on each platform, right?
Correct.  The NES one (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strider_(NES)) had a differently storyline and I've never gotten to play it.

Wikipedia says it's 256 megabits (32 megabytes).

Post by: Kairon on June 16, 2008, 01:17:54 AM
I don't know if 43 MBs is just the biggest game out now, if it's some sort of osft limit that developers are wary of crossing, or if Nintendo actually stipulates it as a limit. Developers don't seem to acknowledge it as an actual boundary sometimes.
Title: Re: What Virtual Console Games Do You Want? (Realistic Possibilities or Not!)
Post by: NWR_insanolord on June 16, 2008, 12:59:34 PM
43 MB is 344 blocks, I don't think any game has been that big so far. It is a really weird number to be Nintendo's limit, so maybe it's not.

I don't know why Nintendo picked 43 MB as the WiiWare limit, but Majora's Mask would almost certainly be over that, being a 64 MB cartridge.

I always wanted to play that, but we probably won't see it until it's a launch title for the DS 2 Virtual Console. Actually, knowing Nintendo, we won't get it until 2 years into the life of it.

Technically they could wrap it into the SGB ROM and run it on the SNES emulator but yeah, I doubt they'll do that.

MK3/UMK3- Saturn (if possible they should be small enough files size)

Title: Your VC wish list?
Post by: Bayou on December 02, 2008, 02:22:04 AM
Well I forget when it happened, but the DVD reader on my WII died like 3 months ago and me and my brother have been transformed into hardcore users of the WIIWARE and virtual console, it has re awakened hankering for games on a system I thought I never would, the Sega CD.
More specifically after a cursory search on wikipedia I have found out that their has been pretty much nothing translated to the virtual console from the sega CD, heck the Turbographix16 CD has received way more support.
At any rate I now realise one of the reasons I hated that system so much wasnt really the games itself, but rather the media it was loaded on itself; I was on the verge of rapping popful mail when it started to skip on the end video and discovered a scratch on the CD(and vowed never to buy another CD based system after that, well hello their ultra 64....).
So without further adue.......

RE-RELEASE POPFUL MAIL ALREADY!!!

Also their were some links to to other CD based RPGs for the sega CD that I never got to play but look pretty sweet that you think would be prime for translation to VC, heck if they can translate Y1 & 11
why not popful mail!

At any rate any games anyone can think of that are dying to be brought to the VC?

discuss

Majora's Mask and Terranigma seconded.  But they should release Soul Blazer and Illusion of Gaia first.

Also Monster World IV comes to mind.  Dragon's Curse was pretty cool, and I really liked The Dynastic Hero.  Need the last of the Wonder Boy series.

I would really like Super Punch Out to come out, as it is a much better game than the original.

Also, I would Nintendo to release a WiiWare version of Super Mario Kart that keeps everything the same, but adds 4 player support.

Master Blaster would be nice.

Turtles in Time is a must.

And finally, how about some of the best Sega Master System games like Penguin Land.

Oh God yes. I actually had a vidya game based dream the other day about this game popping up on the VC and I was 100 points short. THEN I WOKE UP ALL ANGRY BECAUSE IT SEEMED SO REAL.

Ok, Star Fox Racing is a BRILLIANT IDEA.  I would love a Fast Space Racer that has you focused on Racing to the finish line AND Dog fighting at the same time.

As for an unrealistic possibility I would love for Arcade VC games to come out...and the first game I would want is a fully functional 4 player TROG.  Man I loved that game.

I was kidding... lol

I'm still waiting for Earthbound (Mother 2) to hit the VC dammit, might as well get some EB0 (Mother) while we're at it, then 3 in some shape or form. Other than that... i'm not really sure. I wouldnt mind rebuying a couple of games i had when i was younger but somehow lost... something like Mischief Makers for N64.

I want that Ecco the Dolphin for Dreamcast. It's probably to big a game, but lately the Ecco series has intrigued me. Who would have thought a dolphin would save the earth from evil aliens!

I remember the first time a thread like this went up. I think almost everything I listed has since made it to the VC. Or at least Harvest Moon did. I don't think anything is important after that. Maybe they can put Harvest Moon 64 up on offer!

I loath you for calling Majora's Mask unimportant.
Well since they fucked up the Zelda Collection's edition version don't you fear they'll fuckup this one too? I should just replay that one on N64.

Majoras Mask never gave me a problem on the collectors edition and i played that one more than i ever did the N64 version.

I'm mostly interested in imports so Rondo of Blood is at the top.  Being a collector I'd rather own a physical copy of the game so really just stuff that was never available here is of most value to me.

But I want to see arcade games.  These days there are a lot of arcade comps out.  If you like a Namco, Capcom or Midway arcade game you're probably in luck.  But Nintendo has no such compilation so let's get arcade perfect Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Junior, Mario Bros and Popeye (even though that's likely impossible).

And I'll suggest Saturday Night Slam Masters.  I already have it but it's one of my favourite games and I want a new generation of gamers to experience it.  As kids my brothers and I had six SNES games and Slam Masters was one of them.  It was one of the few games I personally owned as well.  It's a four player wrestling game though it also plays kind of like Street Fighter II.  Just imagine a four player SFII where you can move up and down like in Final Fight and everyone is playing a grappling character like Zangief. Oh and MIKE F*CKING HAGGAR is in it! :)

Capcom doesn't seem to really acknowledge it these days.  They included junk like The Avengers on the recent Capcom Classics Collections but not Slam Masters.  Those collections cover almost every significant Capcom arcade game and unlike some of those games this one was popular enough to get home versions for both the SNES and the Genesis.

Though does the VC support SNES multitap functionality?  It pretty much has to or Slam Masters would be a waste.  You have to play it four players to really get the appeal of the game.

I also want arcade perfect Sunset Riders.  The SNES version is only two players and is censored.

I've been thinking more and more about mischief makers lately.. i really liked that game..

I wouldn't mind seeing Star Fox 2 released, wasn't that pretty much completed before it was scrapped for Star Fox 64?
