INDUSTRY BACKS EDINBURGH

EIGF04 dates confirmed: 8th – 22nd August 2004

Friday 26 March 2004/... The EIGF04 (Edinburgh International Games Festival 2004) committee today announced the first four official sponsors for this year's festival. EIGF04, set to run from 8th – 22nd August, launches into its second year with the backing of PlayStation®2, Xbox®, Nintendo and NVIDIATM, cementing its status as the critical cultural event for the interactive entertainment industry.

The festival, which celebrated an overwhelming success in its inaugural year, runs parallel with the other Edinburgh Festivals during August, and highlights the growing bond between video games and other entertainment industries notably music, literature, television and film. Offering an exceptional programme for gaming enthusiasts, creative and interactive entertainment industry personnel, game creators and publishers from across the world are poised to descend on Edinburgh again this summer.

The programme of events consists of:

 # 2 days of conference sessions – 12th and 13th August 2004

# An exciting and unique addition, Game Screenings, offers personal presentations to the public, trade and press by some of the industry's leading games creators – 11th to 14th August 2004

# Go Play Games, a 2-week public gameplay exhibition providing gamers with the opportunity to get interactive with the very latest and greatest software and hardware products – 8th to 22nd August 2004

Greg Ingham, chairman of the EIGF04 and chief executive of the Future Network plc commented, "We are delighted to have such key industry players on board. Their support will prove invaluable in driving the festival forward into the public consciousness; encouraging consumer attendance and positioning the interactive digital medium as a mainstream form of entertainment which makes a valid and considerable contribution to British culture. EIGF, in its second year in 2004, will provide an enjoyable and invaluable experience for all."

Scottish Enterprise Edinburgh and Lothian chief executive, Jim McFarlane, said: "We are delighted to be supporting this event for a second year. We are keen to secure the EIGF as an annual event in the games industry calendar. It provides an excellent opportunity to market the Scottish games sector to the broader industry outside Scotland and helps heighten the profile of interactive entertainment. Digital media is an important growing sector in Scotland and it is essential that industry leaders are aware of what Scotland has to offer."

Darryl Still, Head of Developer Relations, Europe at NVIDIA, said: "We were delighted to participate in the first EIGF, and even more delighted that the event is happening again, and bigger. NVIDIA's The Way Its Meant To Be Played campaign is aimed at bringing the strength of the PC as a gaming platform into industry focus, and the attendee list of the conference is a who's who of the great and the good in this industry, which provides us the perfect platform to do that."
