Nintendo Gaming / Art Academy: First Semester
« on: September 16, 2009, 09:27:42 PM »
I picked up Art Academy : First Semester because I thought for 8000 Wii points it was probably worth it if the naturaal media effects were good enough. I've been going through the lessons and I've been really pleased. Not only are the lessons very helpful and clear, but the pencils and brushes act very much like they would in real life.

Anyone who wants to ue this game to learn to draw is going to be able to do just that, and anyone who already has talent is going to have a lot of fun.

This first semester talks about pencil drawing, dry brushing, pencil sketches and workups, pencil shading, color shading, and finally wet and dry brushing and overpainting to layer colors and create volume and texture.  It doesn't cover everything you can do, but gives you the full set of tools that the game's natural media engine can handle for the free painting section.

Second semester will have landscapes and animals to paint, and teach about color theory and color mixing, light and shadow, and reflection in more detail, plus atmospheric effects for creating distance.

I'm proud of the works I've created just following the six lessons, and I'm looking forward to painting my own subjects. I can't wait until the next one comes out this month!  I threw my art online: http://www.flickr.com/photos/nathanhaines/sets/72157622392561860/

What does everyone else think about this game?
