Sonic the Hedgehog 4 to be Developed by Dimps
« on: February 17, 2010, 07:39:59 AM »
The studio responsible for Sonic Advance and Rush are working on the WiiWare title.
 http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=21180

A listing on Xbox.com  reveals that Dimps is developing Sonic the Hedgehog 4, according to  Kotaku.

Dimps previously worked on the Sonic Advance and Sonic Rush series,  and the day-time stages of Sonic Unleashed.

The team, located in Japan, was founded by former SNK employees and  has also worked on Street Fighter IV, the Dragon Ball Z: Budokai  series, and the Japan-only DS game Tales of the Tempest.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 is set for a summer release.

This should ease everyones nerves somewhat seeing how they are responsible for about the only decent Sonic games in the last decade. Then again, the only really special thing about this game is that it is 2d on consoles. Dimps has already created multiple Sonic games that are close to his roots. So the only question left is if it is actually good, or if we are lucky comparable to the genesis games.

Hmmm... I didn't like the level design too much in their 2D outings. Though I did like the SD sections in Unleashed. With momentum based stages and levels that don't make you run non stop, I think it can turn out well.

This is the correct decision. Sega may just get this right after all...

I'm in the party that's not too hot on Dimps as I disliked the Sonic Rush level designs. However, Sonic Advance was really awesome, and the day-time parts of Sonic Unleashed were the only parts of that game in which I didn't want to stab my eyes out.

I imagine I'll be buying this day one, but I'm still not sold on it.

If you plan to buy it immediately, doesn't that mean that you ARE, literally, sold on it?

I think he's trying to say he's sold on Episode 1, but that Episode 1 will have to sell him on later episodes released.  That's certainly my condition, too.

I don't like what Dimps has done with 2D Sonic.  Stages were forgettable, as were enemies and hazards.  It's better than some of what we've seen before, but still, it doesn't interest me all that much that Dimps is developing.  This video, when it's functional, looks to be almost a hybrid between the stages you see in Dimps games and Sonic 2:  There's unique enemies, with a higher focus on platforming and quick reactions, but often, there's only one pathway.  That said, I can't exactly judge it based on these things, because it's clearly far from complete.

Anyways, I'll play Episode 1, and see where that gets me, but I'm not sold on more episodes.

Is it me or does Sonic not move nearly as fast as he used to?

The actual progression throughout the level seems to be of a similar speed to that of the old Genesis games. I think what is deceiving is that the animations make it look as if Sonic is moving slower than expected.

I loved the first Sonic Advance, but liked the later ones less and didn't at all care for Rush. I suppose, though, that this is better than having the remains of Sonic Team working on this.

...

You're right, but I think thatguy hit my sentiments on the head. I'll bite on this game, but I'm not sure of its quality. Plus, if it sucks, then I'm only out something like $10.

I'll give it a shot as soon as the last episode is released and Big the Cat is confirmed to not appear in any of them.

If the series TTSF (Time To ****ty Friends) isn't infinite though, no sale.

Sonic is actualy moving a little faster than he does in the older games, as far as picking up speed that is. It's just his high speed running animation barely shows up at all in this video. You can see it twice, but just barely, that animation needs to show up sooner.
