I will write a truly heartfelt and really serious reply, no drama, no false characters, just the truth, if that is okay.

I love this site, and the people. Why else do I keep coming here? But I have to say that the one thing that turns people off is also the one thing that makes this community work, the funhouse.
Newbies come here and can be turned off by the funhouse because it can be intimidating. When I was new I was confused, as was Lucario and I know others who have had a hard time adjusting. When you get it in your head everyone is a jackal who is sometimes kidding, and sometimes serious, it makes for a weird personality mix where you have trouble separating the two.

I had a hard time adjusting for the longest time, the aftermath is still present in totally inncent posts being taken as rants when they are not meant to be, and the real rants being taken too seriously. I tried working through that, but I lost interest. As I stated, the bullying turned me off. What some didn't realize is they might not have been intending to be bullies but newbies don't know when you are being legit and when you are being asshats for the fun of it, because like it or not, it's hard to post in the funhouse as a goof ball not to be taken seriously and then leave that behind in the funhouse. Either you make it anything goes, freeforall no rules, or you get rid of it entirely as there is already a general chat forum and the fun house is the thing that turns the most people away.

The long time community is also a big part of it. When I came here I was a newbie but I fit in early on with friends who looked past the rough exterior and helped me grow as a person, but it took several resets because the bullies dominated the site. Most of the real bullies are gone, moved on, grew up or realized they were in the wrong. Most of the people *I* mistook as bullies, to be honest, weren't and I see that now, which is why I am trying real hard to be positive and engaging, at least when I care, which is the point. I lost interest in caring because of the damn funhouse and all the shenanigans. It's something the long time regulars don't get because they are used to it.

So my first piece of advice is either reform the rules to the fun house to make it CLEAR to newbies what it is, after all there is not post or thread that spells out the rules or the intent it's just the wild west in there and newbies can be confused, easy, and then when told it is a fun house but the name changes all the time it can also confuse newbies.

Either make it clear it's a place where the rules are loose or be VERY clear that the shenanigans that take place in there are NOT to be spread across the rest of the forum. Or get rid of it entirely as it really serves no useful purpose. It used to be the forum for Mafia games and now there is a Mafia section which also confuses people and reduces the need for the fun house. Make a 'forum games" section and dedicate it to that but make it CLEAR that is what it is.

Next up, I concur general house cleaning is in order. I would suggest getting rid of sub-forums that aren't used as often or do it like www.blu-ray.com does, check out how clean their forum is and how very active their community is. Blu Ray is a little more mainstream than Nintendo as a whole, but it's also very niche in a lot of ways. That is a very active community, yet it is hyer focused on ONE topic, Blu Ray movies, and it attracts movie lovers of all walks, this is a Nintendo focused site, but Nintendo is not as small as people might like to think, at least the core fan base. Many of them have moved on to social media, so let's address that.

Social media is a tool, not a platform. Use it. Use it extensively. Maybe have the writers or the mods who post stories to the site Tweet links to those stories on their twitter feeds associated with the site.

Those are some of my suggestions. But the real reason this site has trouble keeping new posters is trouble-makers like me. So consider this my farewell once and for all. No big blow out, no rant, no "meltdown" just a subtle, I am moving on in my life to better things. Yes, my final answer and a true good-bye to those that care and a good riddance to those that don't.

No I am not angry, or hurt, or depressed, or anything, I just don't care anymore. I literally found a happier life elsewhere and I only came here to rant because I wasn't happy in my life. I don't suffer from depression anymore, I am a more well rounded person and I have a good job, a very good prospect and I need to cleanse myself of this old life. Thanks to the friends I did make and everyone else, no worries, I forgive you all and I beg your forgiveness those I was a true jerk to. Thanks for the memories, good and bad. No need to ban my account but if you decide to, that would be fine. I truly won't be back. Ever.
 Good luck in the future.

« on: December 16, 2016, 11:10:41 AM »
I found two really old Ms. Pac-Man board games on Amazon. There were three on the site, priced at $29.99 a piece. I bought to and then a day later the price of the third tripled. Good to know I was able to affect the pricing of an amazon collectible item.

Why did I need two? Because I got them for my sisters kids, and I don't trust them to take care of them so I wanted a spare to keep at my house. But if I do that, I might have to get them something else for Christmas.

I should have thought this through.

3
Of course I am crazy, I can't deny that, aren't we all though? Especially anyone who chooses not to live in the greatest nation on Earth but still covet our greatness, talk about crazy.

4
Being skeptical of Nintendo is not the same as hating them Lucario. Seriously. I am starting to like Pokepal, he finally gets when I am not being serious. All the others who have this delusion of me being some hate filler person are stuck in the far past.

Also, as I have stated before, I am a much clamer, happier person now. I just wish people wouldn't take my posts so seriously sometimes, I mean the rants, which are usually just me bullshitting I thought for sure by NOW that would be plainly obvious. I mean it's the only way to exist in this site if you speak whats on your mind the haters just dismiss you as crazy.

Well, I think that's a bit of an over exaggeration.

That was the point. I was replying with his absurd claims with my own absurd claims. Get with the program man damn. I guess ppl think wall of text means meltdown. Nice good to know.

6
That's funny. I didn't have a meltdown, but I have no doubts at all what you people think of me now. Thanks.

It was a light hearted ribbing. But I have learned no to let the haters get to me. I am better than you think I am.

You're all a bunch of quitters. I still play my Super Pong. :P:

8
I wish Amazon would already allow pre-orders I want to get mine locked in before I spend all the money reserved for it.

9
I'm torn now. I was getting the game on Wii U as hopefully a reason to keep it around other than as an emulator. But now I am thinking if I am getting Switch day one, which I am leaning towards doing. Then I might get this too. I did get TP on Wii but I still wish I had gone with the Game Cube then.

To be fair, the same people who play games on their cell phone are NOT the same people who would buy a DS or a GBA anyways. I mean they just aren't.

The people who play games on their cell phones WERE the same people who would buy a DS or GBA. I remember how it would be common place to see a DS or a GBA on the tube, now dedicated consoles have been 99% replaced by phones.
This is quite a weird place to discuss this because it's such a pro-Nintendo echo chamber. It reminds of when Kimishima was interviewed by the Wall Street journal shortly after the Switch announcement. They asked him why he thought Nintendo's shares had dropped 8% following the reveal and he had no answer. He was genuinely baffled. These people really can't see the problems ahead and are doomed to make similar mistakes that they did with the Wii U. The future of mobile gaming IS mobile phones. If Nintendo wanted to do well in the mobile market they should release a bluetooth controller for $20 that holds the phone and distribute games that way. Yes they have to give a slice of the profits to Apple/Android but at least there's profits to share. This will not be a widely used portable gaming console, so what does that leave? An underpowered home console with added manufacturing costs and weak third party support. Wake up people! The breadcrumbs are so close together on this one, how can you not see the way this is going to go?

No this isn't a pro-Nintendo chamber as you call it, it's a place where people of all walks who happen to enjoy Nintendo discuss the happenings of Nintendo.

Dude if you think I am some blind Nintendo fanboy you haven't been reading my comments AT ALL or you are too new here to know me. First I am NOT a Nintendo fanboy, I am not even pro-Nintendo as you call it. And newsflash, I game on my cell phone *AND* I DO NOT OWN a Nintendo handheld.

There might have been some overlap, as in there were people who were casual gamers that picked up a dedicated machine for HANDFUL of games, when the price was right, to play on the go. Those were a NICHE, small numbers, they were not the massive number of dedicated fans who buy dedicated hardware.

Those people migrated to cell phones, sure, but they were NOT a significant portion of the market at all. Now you keep quoting some Japanese executive from Japan, first mistake, assuming America is the same as Japan.

Second mistake you keep assuming we are all die hard ultra pro-Nintendo when we certainly are not. I have gone on record countless times not just criticizing but openly stating I have disdain for the N64, the Wii, and the Wii U. I have gone on record to call the 3DS and over priced machine that does not justify it's own existence, countless times.

The Switch is not the 3DS! That is your second mistake. It is a new console that does both, appeals to both.

Now I won't dig deep into this again but you are flat wrong, FLAT WRONG, when you say the countless masses of casual gamers that game exclusively and casually, usually sticking to one or two very simple games like Tetris, Candy Crush, or something along those lines, are the SAME massive numbers of people that picked up the GBA and the DS. They were a sub-set of that market. You want proof, look at the 3DS, it is tracking slightly below the GBA, it's about 15 million behind it, GBA was sold both at a time when cell phone games didn't even exist or were expensive, BTW the N-Gage was around then and in direct competition with GBA so...

Next the DS, okay the DS picked up a lot of those people sure but so did the Wii. Now many of those people, which you lump into ONE large homogenous group which is also false, there are lots of subsets of the larger market, maybe take a class in marketing and learn a little about demographics and the like before you lump everyone into two camps, pro-Nintendo dedicated gamers and everyone else. Ass.

Then, well the Switch is NOT a portable device first. It is a dedicated gaming TABLET that you can hook into your TV or take on the go , it is literally the first of its kind. There have been other devices that were similar, tablets that could connect to a TV and use controllers but this is the FIRST DEDICATED gaming tablet to be marketed to the masses for gamers of all markets, casuals and dedicated.

Finally, if I am PRO-Switch it is because I am anti-Nintendo. The thing is such a balls ass perfect product it will attract everyone, mark my damn words. As the gamer on here that HATED the N64, the Wii, the Wii U and the 3DS I can assure you that if *I* and everyone i know that thinks like *I* do, mostly heavy leaning Playstion fans, are excited for this thing, bet your ASS everyone else will be too.

I could break it down by demographic and audience but I won't, I will just say your flat wrong of your assessment and quoting what goes on in Japan is pointless, I don't live in Japan I don't give a **** what goes on there and if this thing sells well there, which it WILL, and it sells well here which I assume it will, then its going to be big.

HOW big is the question.

I stand by my prediciton of 90 million, that is roughly the size of the Nintendo fanbase, the entire united fanbase that includes kids who want a cheap gaming machine, hardcore fans that love their franchises, casual that only want one or two games (M) who get everything else they want on Playstation or Xbox, the moms that ate up the Wii, because they game on tablets doesn;t mean they want to game on a tablet, again PC gaming was big when everyone had a PC in their house, it has shrunk in some ways because people do their computing on the tablet, those that used the PC as a gaming/media device, did so because they had no alternative, those days are gone, now only people gaming on a PC are die hard PC gamers, which consequetly still make up enough MONEY even if not numbers, to matter.

Which takes me to what does matter. Soccer moms who buy a tablet do so out of necessity, they need a portable device with access to facebook and email that they can browse the web, mostly shopping amazon, pay bills and netflix, those moms do game on the tablet, because it's convenient. But they have kids, kids that one to game on the tablet too, so what does the mom do, buys her kid a 3DS, that kid is going to now be getting a Switch in stead. Game set and match, The RAT because I don't need your damn facts or opinions to win arguments I just go by my own gut observations and thats just how I roll. SO have fun not playing Switch when everyone you know will have two.

To be fair, the same people who play games on their cell phone are NOT the same people who would buy a DS or a GBA anyways. I mean they just aren't.
It like how the people who do all their TV on Netflix aren't buying Blu Ray discs. It's two different types of consumers.
But kids drive the market, 3DS was priced a little high but it still sold well to kids and families would love to have more gaming options that keep the TV free and ways to spend time together. This will be huge based on that aspect alone. All that takes is the right price and the right game.
Playstation is entirely different it's billed as an ultimate gamer machine, it does everything a hard core gamer wants and any casuals that pick it up are just icing to Sony. Same for Xbox. Nintendo caters to a different market and Switch looks like it can really cater well to their largest userbase and still appeal to the ultra hard cores who have to own everything and those that like Nintendo but want more than just a handful of games.

I am curious, did Microsoft ever have a big presence in Japan with their Windows? Maybe they are just keeping Xbox going to try and preserve any mind-share they might have clinging to those Windows customers?

I love how everyone keeps saying they have all these Wii U games in their backlog, as if you're ever going to get around to playing them. I mean I love the system but lack of games was it's biggest sin. Unless you don't have Steam or a Playstation and you like mini games that only make you wish you had something more to play then yeah it's got games.

I gave up on Super Mario 3D World. I got bored. So I moved on to Super Paper Mario. I got bored with that real quick so I moved on to Mega Man 8. I got bored real quick so I put in Gremlins DVD and had more fun with that than all those games.

Gamer is not the best word to describe me, compulsive collector who used to be a gamer maybe.

If you enjoy movie commentaries, I recommend the RedLetterMedia commentary of Gremlins ;)

I do like movie commentaries but I hate that guy, he hates Star Wars and that's not excusable.

But that's not true. In the 80's they had 90 percent market share, during that period they had 50 percent of the market. Their sales grew but so did the market.

I learned from selling my Game Cube and Saturn that I am going to hold onto my Wii U until the day I die. If Wii U sold half as much as Game Cube but is remembered half as fondly it's going to attract major cult status in a few years and be a gold mine of used games. I kind of wish I had invested more in the library at this point before things go sky high but I am just too damn broke to worry about that.

Also I have a ton of virtual console games I don't know how I could live without.

18
I'm assuming it'll be one of their sports games or something, but Mass Effect: Andromeda would be really cool. I've never played a game in the series and if it ends up being a launch title, I'd likely pick it up (especially in light of other open world game related news in the past 24 hours).

I think you might be disappointed by Mass Effect then. It is not an open world game. It is a fairly linear sci-fi action RPG that features some decision making but it is a very strict story that you can't deviate from much, it's not what I think of when people say open-world. You're thinking of Watch Dogs, GTA, right? Those are entirely different experiences or maybe I am confusing the terms people keep changing what they call games so I am not hip to the modern slang.

I know the first three Mass Effect games don't have an open world, but Mass Effect: Andromeda is being billed as an open world game. I haven't been following the game's development and pre-release coverage super closely, so I'm not sure if there are signs pointing to the contrary, but based on the few things I have read that's one of the big changes they're pushing with this game.

See well I didn't know that. I haven't been following it at all. In fact I didn't even know it existed.

Well it's weird my school does 12 week semesters so they have 4 terms in a year. But that's not important. However I am now being informed I reached my aggregate loan limit so they might have been mistaken and I might not be able to borrow more to finish. I am confused but it's always been confusing how this stuff works.

As for cost, my school is a private university and they are not cheap. I know most journalists don't have degrees, but I needed to at least be in school and take the classes, learn the stuff. I am doing it now, I work for a local newspaper and I worked for a TV station before that. I could go back into TV if I wanted to but print is so much less stressful and more personal.

I am seriously thinking of doing more with my blog, making it into a more commercial enterprise, doing podcasts, etc, Perm we totally need to do a podcast together, you be the sane, normal, level headed one, I be the Sega fan ranting about how the Dreamcast 2.0 is going to happen. Or something less stereotypical.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Top 10 Nintendo published games (2000 - 2009)
« on: December 05, 2016, 11:28:20 PM »
Fine change the rules, what do I care I will play along.

  • Super Mario 64 DS- I picked this as my top game for several reasons. It was the first game I played on the DS and my favorite game on the DS. Super Mario 64 is one of my favorite games of all time and while this game is not the same it has enough Super Mario 64 to keep me happy. My favorite Mario of all-time is Super Mario World, nothing is going to change that, so I stuck to the timeframe. I think I enjoyed this game more than even the GBA remake of Super Mario World, mostly because this game took SM64 and added Luigi, something I felt that the game should have had from he start, and the mini games were pretty cool.
  • Mario Party 4- I picked this based on two factors, nostalgia as is the normal case, and the amount of time I put into it. For me this was the perfect Mario Party game. I played it with everyone I knew, many people I have memories of playing this game with are no longer alive so it's dear to me, mainly for the memories it preserves. But I also stopped liking Mario Party games after so for me it's also a time capsule.
  • Super Smash Bros. Melee- The Game Cube is easily my favorite Nintendo console most days. I sometimes go back and forth between this and the SNES but as a Sega fanboy back in the day there was a period I had major contempt for the SNES. I never had that for the Game Cube. Melee is similar to Mario Party in that it holds memories I wish to keep alive so yes as I play it I try to recall those memories, especially of friends long gone. But I also love this game tremendously it's one of my favorite games on the system and my favorite game in the series.
  • Star Fox Adventures- This one I disagree with most people, it truly is one of my favorite games of all time. I didn't mind the fetch quests, my biggest complaint at the time was the ending really disappointed me but I was fine with it. There was a young girl in my life at the time, she started out a kid my sisters babysat eventually she became a part of the family, it was her favorite game, it was our favorite thing to do together. I have no problem admitting emotions play a large part of the games I choose, its why I still go back to Pac-Man almost daily or at least once a week. Anyways all that aside, I still enjoyed the game, to me this was the best Zelda game you could get for the Game Cube. Not being the biggest Zelda fan anyways I just really liked this game. Also a friend that is long one showed it to me and well he influenced my decision to get it.
  • Legend of Zelda Collector's Edition- Zelda NES and Zelda 2 NES really are all there needs to be to say why I love this game. I would have cheated at put the Classic NES series games on here but that wouldn't be fair as to this day this is the ONLY Game Cube game I still have from my original Cube back in the day. It's the copy that came with the game.
  • New Super Mario Bros.- This is the game that got me back into Mario games after despising Sunshine, and not caring for Galaxies or it's sequel. Upon replaying on Wii U VC I still enjoy it a lot. It reminded me of Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World in a lot of ways and took me back in time. Also it got me through some dark days when I was losing so many of those above mentioned friends.
  • Metroid Prime- No story here, just was the very first Metroid game I ever played and I fell in love with it, the whole idea of First Person Shooters, and because of this game I went back and discovered the amazing Super Metroid. I also think the story and the world really drew me in and I spent a ton of hours on this game. I didn't hesitate to get the updated version for the Wii U VC in the form of Trilogy.
  • Tetris DS- To be honest I was contemplating Mario Kart DS as this and that were my first 2 ever online games. But I was good at Tetris, I could win matches, I could beat the game, I played all the different methods and this was the game that made it hard to sell my DS when the time came. Mario Kart DS on the other hand, holds special place as the first true online game I playd, I played it first but got them both the same day, well I suck at Mario Kart. Partly because, I hate Mario Kart, there I said it. I never cared for the series. To me it took the illusion I had in my mind of Mario existing in a fantasy world and just destroyed it. My world was shattered by that and I never forgave those punks since. But I don't know I guess Tetris is one of those games I play and I zone out. I can literally play for hours.
  • Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles- This was my second Final Fantasy game ever. I am not a huge RPG fan, I like the genre okay and play D&D a lot but I just can't get into them they take forever. Even D&D I play encounters style not epic adventures. BUt this game felt more like a D&D RPG and not an anime turned into a video game like all those other games. As not a fan of anime I was turned off by all the anime RPG's especially the popular at the time FFX. But I also loved the 4 player aspect, I was a huge fan of the connectivity, partly why I am excited for the Switch and didn't hate the Wii U despite the flaws. But this game was my favorite RPG for a long time and as someone who just didn't get into the FF series I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this game. Also GC, did I mention I love the Game Cube. I also, sadly, have memories of this game tied to dead friends so well there is still that too.
  • Super Paper Mario- This was process of elimination, there was nothing else from the list Khush provided, which I just found on Google and skimmed through, that I felt I enjoyed as much. It started out as a Game Cube game so that made me automatically interested in it. But I still like it a lot and I recently started re-playing it on VC.

22
I think Nintendo might be shying away from putting out so many accessories.  I also think the reason there was no GC on the VC was either due to the file sizes not being manageable or Nintendo wanting to save the library for HD ports.  They did Zelda twice out of desperation, but that isn't to say other titles weren't on the table.  With how much of the PS4 library is HD Remakes and Remasters, I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo was eyeing the GC library for potential ports.  Especially for games that maybe never made it out west like Doshin the Giant.

But the Wii U had the Pro Controller so that debunks the person who said the Game Pad was the cause, and Wii games are larger than Game Cube games and there are dozens of those so that debunks the large file sizes.

As for HD Remasters, they did 2, they didn't exactly light sales charts on fire.

Good news first. My university and loan provider have a payment plan/funding option that allows me to finish school finally. I am 2 semesters away from graduating but I ran out of money. Anyways I had to apply for a program that basically lets me borrow more money to keep going.
The bad news, the reason I ran out of money is I hit my loan limit. So borrowing more to finish is very scary, especially with an incoming administration that is very vocally not in favor of higher education. Or the media, my career field.

So I am both excited and nervous at the prospect of maybe finally finishing school and branching out in my career. Except now is not the best time to be pursuing a career in journalism. Well I thought I was talking myself into a good mood and it back fired. Thanks a lot internet.

I almost put Wii sports on my list, but if you look at my gaming history as a whole, 2009 is the year I lost interest in Nintendo for a very long time so to me most of my fond memories are before that machine came into existence. I think that is why Super Paper Mario made the cut, it started out as a Game Cube game and if it had stayed there I would easily bump it up 2 notches as I just hate the stripped down Wiimote controls and day dream what it would have been like on the Game Cube with a proper controller. I do that with a lot of Wii games hence why I despise the Wii more often than not. I loved the Game Cube controller, and that has nothing to do with Smash, I am NOT competitive at all, in fact I suck at Smash. And I played it strictly as a single player game and still loved it. I just loved the nostalgia, it had all those trophies and levels from every franchise that was in the game it was a much better Mario game at times than Sunshine, at times. I would give Sunshine a lot more love if the cutscenes were skipable and if it didn't take so long to get to the good levels.
