imagine buying that as a gift for your mom/dad or whoever you know thats older and not tech savvy, and they take it out jogging and none of their songs play, so they take it back to the store for store credit they'll never use.

Pale - I *believe* Apple generally sends markdowns to stores for existing inventory of iPods when the newer models come out.
