TalkBack / Re: High Nintendo Network Traffic Causes Pokemon Bank Delays
« on: December 30, 2013, 02:00:13 PM »
It's pretty typical of the current state of Nintendo. They're greedy and lazy and appear to cut corners at every opportunity to save a few bucks. Why invest in a reliable online system when it's cheaper and easier to offer up the bare minimum and just shrug your shoulders when it collapses. It's pretty shameful to happen at Christmas time and for over three days no less. I really can't see any positive end for Nintendo until they look over the fence and start taking notes on how their competitors approach the business, because the current cynical and arrogant method that Nintendo has adopted is certainly not working.
This is the perfect cap to what has been an absolutely diabolical year for Nintendo. And the worst of it is, a lot of Nintendo's problems can be fixed with the right focus and mentality. At least 2014 can't be any worse... right?

Yeah... buddy? SCREW YOU!
How is Nintendo doing the bare minimum in online infrastructure when this EXACT thing happened to PS4, the Xbox One and STEAM? All of which for DAMN sure have the resources to create the very best online structures. When retailers have a sale (Black Friday for example) their websites are PLAGUED with slowdowns and outages. This sort of thing happens everywhere but NO, attack Nintendo. Horrible year? Maybe so... but with sales picking up to the point where network outages ARE occuring, things are looking better. However, I doubt you'd see the positive when it happens. Now go find some other article to put some sensationalist spin on.

Remember how Sakurai said not all of our favorite characters will be returning for this game? Well after that I was waiting for Luigi conformation and now I've finally gotten it. Trust me, with Sakurai's statement it was very possible for Luigi to NOT have been included for whatever dumb reason. Thankfully, that didn't happen. I'm happy! :D

TalkBack / Re: Frostbite 3 Is 'Not Impossible' on Wii U
« on: July 02, 2013, 11:46:08 AM »
Couldn't EA and other third parties create the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions first and then port those games over to the Wii U and make it the lead development platform between the PS4 and XBone? It would be easier to up port from the Wii U to the PS4 and Xbone.

Why in the world would you make the Wii U the lead platform for the next gen consoles, especially given the console's pitiful sales? It's would be like making the Wii the lead platform this last generation when the 360 and PS3 were on a completely different level. The gap between their tech is just too great. Now, if the Wii U were selling better, I could see the Wii U being the lead platform for 360/PS3-tier games, platforms the Wii U can actually compete with.

I am SICK and TIRED of this crap. Wii U is NOT doing horribly in sales. They just did not meet their sales goals. That is like you leaving the house to sell 10 books but only selling 7. The sales weren't what you wanted but they weren't "pitiful" either.

So, broodwars and anybody else who think that what I'm saying is just damage control from a 'fanboy', consider this: As of March this year, despite declining console sales, Nintendo's Wii U sold more in its first four months on sale than either the PS3 or Xbox 360. If the sales are considered "pitiful" I can only imagine how much Sony and Microsoft were getting lit up back when the PS3 and 360 were being sold new. Oh wait that didn't happen because ALL Nintendo news is spun negatively while Sony and Microsoft news is given as is. SMFH!!

ugh, i swear whoever designs these things needs to be replaced,

I didn't like it at first either. However, as soon as I read a comment mention camouflage way back when it was first announced, I looked at it again and fell in love cause I figured out what they were going for. Ah well... to each their own.

Xero, I understand you think people should be able to illegally profit off of others work. I disagree. What Nintendo is doing is a nice compromise.

oh for heavens sake Tj give it a rest,
honestly...
a game is an interactive experience
a lets-play is literally a specific player's experience in the recorded playthrough of a game with commentary. you cannot own the rights to a persons experience of a game.

tj tell me something
is it mooching for me to reply to your post?

Xero, I understand you think people should be able to illegally profit off of others work. I disagree. What Nintendo is doing is a nice compromise.

It's not illegal to post videogame footage on Youtube. A game company can claim copyright if they want, sure, but virtually all non-shitty video game companies opt not to since it's better PR and probably better for business overall.

I'm honestly starting to think that TJ just likes to give trouble even when people clearly smarter than him try to provide him with information. I put the video up. It explains everything in fine detail.

A person who bakes and sells cakes is profiting off of the work of the farmer who got the eggs and the person who manufactured the flour. It's not the best example but even a preschooler should be able to understand where I'm coming from.

TJ, watch the video, digest it, understand all sides and just give it a rest.

7
After some thought I figured I made a mistake going full steam ahead trying to get persons to understand my point of view based on my knowledge of the subject. Now, instead, I have a video for everyone to watch.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CvyRXjh7n4

It is an informative video by a Let's Player (NO he is not biased!) He gives info on the subject and is basically just trying to increase the understanding of what is going on. If you have 19 minutes, give it a watch. If you don't have 19 minutes, watch it later. Just watch all of it. A more informed world is better for all of us.

8
All right! All right! Fine. Greed wins in this case, clearly. I can only imagine in a few years what companies will be able to get away with thanks to support such as this.

If you do your research, you'll be surprised to hear that reviews are being targetted as well. Yup! They are clearly going by the mentality, "If you get paid by doing ANYTHING related to our products, we do not want that. We want your money." So yeah, TJ, I guess Nintendo believes in your philosophy, "... people should not be able to profit off of someone else's work, PERIOD." This is why I used the RWJ example. It's only a matter of time before they find a loophole where they can attack sites such as this and IGN.

9
It's not backstabbing to not want moochers to financially benefit from playing games that are copyrighted by someone else. If anything, you should be praising Nintendo for allowing these copyright violating videos to stay up. There is no justification in thinking these people should profit from them. It's enough that they are allowed to keep the videos up.

I'm sure by now you have been told (although you insist on ignoring it) that this is transformative work. You take an established product and do work on it and it is then okay to make money from it. LP-ers actually have to do lots of work to be successful. It is NOT an easy thing to do. (Investment, recording, syncing, converting, etc.) Although Nintendo IS within their rights to do this, it is a slap in the face for all the work that they once upon a time complimented. It is like they are saying, "Remember all the days and nights you spent on your custom intros, your commentary, your editing, etc. just to advertise our products for us and help our clientele grow? Well, WE now want ALL of the money for that work."

I don't know how else to explain this to you, TJ. Yes, Nintendo CAN do this but they should NOT do this cause of the repercussions. Yes, having them deleted would be better if anything.
omw, who cares. Who even has time to watch a video of a whole videogame besides final fantasy fans

Well, Zap, millions upon millions of Youtube viewers are subscribed to LP-ers. Maybe you don't have the time but clearly many others do.

10
Actually, it's not unfair at all. Why should people get paid for someone else's work? Whether you think it's fair or not, those people are committing copyright violations. Instead of having YouTube take those videos down (which is within Nintendo's legal right), they are just rightfully getting the ad revenue from them (not that it's much anyways). The videos can stills stay up. And your example is faulty because you can review something without breaking the law (fair use doesn't apply when you have 20+ minutes of copyrighted content).

Actually, Nintendo themselves saw nothing wrong with it when they outright complemented "TheRunawayGuys" on their work (free advertising etc.). The backstabbing which we are discussing now came later. Plus, Youtube themselves has no problem with allowing partners to gain ad revenue from gameplay which has commentary, graphics and other things that makes the experience unique as opposed to JUST gameplay.

11
Hey guys,
Have you heard? RayWilliamJohnson, reviewer of viral videos, is having his videos tagged by several Youtubers whose videos he has reviewed. This way, instead of him getting paid for his work in reviewing the videos, the Youtubers will get all of the money that he used to be paid for =3. Their argument is, without their videos, he wouldn't have a show.

Oh wait, sorry. That's not happening. Because those Youtubers actually appreciated the added publicity =3 gave them.

To all those defending Nintendo on this, do you NOW see why this is unfair after I gave that example?

TalkBack / Re: First North American Wii U Advertisement Video Airs Today
« on: November 01, 2012, 12:33:33 PM »
Pre-orders have virtually sold out everywhere.

Why advertise something when you don't have product to sell?

It's a waste of money that NoA could be using elsewhere.

The commercials are to provide info to those persons who are NOT watching every Nintendo live stream or living on video game related websites. Yes, it's hard for some gamers to fathom this but there are plenty of people out there who are not well informed about the latest in video game hardware.
Also, pre-orders on the websites which actually provided pre-orders are sold out. Many stores (and the websites which are not allowing pre-orders) will be getting actual "free bird" consoles to sell. These will sell to a mixture of those who missed out on pre-orders and those who will only now be hearing about the console through these commercials.

13
Okey dokey. That settles it. Imma get the 3DS Power A headset if I ever decide I want a voice chat enabled game. Was just waiting to find out if headsets of that sort in general work.

14
I think that the belief that Operation Rainfall helped these games sell as well as they did in NA holds a bit of weight. I don't totally believe it though. However, with that in mind, I think this should teach us Nintendo gamers that some obscure JRPG's could use that extra push even when they are localised.
I think that in the future, the word about future JRPG's that get released on Nintendo platforms should be spread as much as possible. Extra advertising if you will. That way, the games will be more likly to do well. Extending the Operation Rainfall for this purpose doesn't seem like a bad idea.

I see that we have become IGN.

No, if this were IGN each 30 word entry would have its own page just to drive up ad revenue, and for the same reason it would be a "Top 50" list instead of a "Top 5" one.  Also, each entry would be revealed once a day over the course of a week.

TalkBack / Re: Nintendo Has No Plans to Fix Mario 3D Kart Glitch
« on: January 17, 2012, 09:54:14 AM »
This is why I can't ever get 3 stars in 150 cc.
Not to mention the glitches I keep getting in wifi races.
Couldn't Nintendo fix the game like they did skyward sword?

This glitch has NOTHING to do with your inability to get 3 stars in 150cc. I got 3 stars in the appropriate cup in both 150cc AND Mirror and I didn't need to perform the glitch to get it and the CPU never performs the glitch either. Come up with a better excuse please.

TalkBack / Re: How I Got My GameCube - A Remembrance of a System Launch
« on: November 19, 2011, 06:35:47 PM »
I was a late adopter all throughout my gaming life up to after the GCN generation. That being said, I spent most of that gen only managing to play the Gamecube when my school had near-vacation arcades and when my friends invited me over. I would then go home to continue playing my trusty N64.

The time eventually came for me to get my own Gamecube because one night I nearly screamed when I heard about this: "Get the Gamecube system and Mario Kart Double Dash for just $99.99". I could NOT pass this up and so I kept talking to my mom about how cheap the system was now.

So one travelling Aunt and $100 bucks from my Xmas job's income later and I somehow forgot what I was expecting. Probably because it took so long for my Aunt to get back and I was perhaps focused on my job. However, that boxing day was the best EVER cause my mom gently woke me up with the Gamecube bundle in her hands. I never woke up so happy in my life and I don't think I ever did since that day. :D

Oh, and Link is now right handed.

Link is NOT right handed. The tradition of Link was that every incarnation of Link is left handed. Yes I said every incarnation. There are multiple Links. Now unfortunately that tradition was officially broken with Skyward Sword (no left hand mode). So yeah, one COULD say that he is left handed now...

I have yet to get tired of a Zelda game, new ones or previous entries.

There are only 2 things I hope Nintendo implements going forward:

1. Full voice acting, INCLUDING LINK.  I know, I know, it's never gonna happen.  Samus opened her mouth and the bowels of hell shook with rage.

You know... I'm getting tired of how much human beings (ESPECIALLY gamers) hate change. It's pathetic. Samus talks and everyone hates on a great game. What's worse, many people don't know this but Charles Martinet gave a 'tour' of the 3DS features as Mario. In other words, it was a 3 to 4 minute video of Mario saying MUCH more than just Yahoo and Here we go. The acting on the video was quite good in my opinion. It was definitely no Megaman 8 that's for sure. Thankfully the majority of the comments I read liked it but there were persons who said they never wanted to hear it again and blah blah blah as if it was the worst thing they had ever heard. If Nintendo wants to start implementing voice acting for their top stars, there is NOTHING wrong with that. Embrace change, ppl!

Once I saw her severely reduced cup size in the trailer I was quite puzzled to say the least. However, once I heard it was a prequel to the entire franchise I relaxed because it indeed made sense.

Now, if this size continues into later games, then we may have a problem...
