TalkBack / Re: Nintendo Patents Button-Customizable Handheld
« on: May 08, 2014, 03:42:32 PM »
I'm surprised nobody knows about this.
Around the time of the 3DS' release, ONM in the UK conducted an interview with Miyamoto. He stated, when talking about the circle pad and D pad, that it was so difficult for Nintendo to decide which should be higher or lower on the unit that they resorted to make removable pieces for each so they could be easily swapped. He said they even considered releasing the unit with this configuration!
This patent seems to cover this idea while also serving as an extension to it. Perhaps it's just a renewal? Or an update to an older one?

One to fish out the baragain bins I think...
In what way is this 'powered up' though? Does it include DLC from other versions or something?

It's out this year in Europe.

No improvements on time? The Mutagen knocked 17 seconds off my best time in First Fall! That 'rock' really frustrates me though, so I'm not doing any other well with it.

I get what you mean about Zen Pinball. I was considering whether to remove that question, but I left it in to see what you said.

How haven't you noticed the big difference in speed between many of the objects? Are you seriously suggesting you don't notice the huge difference between the Rubber Ball and the Mutagen?

Would you also criticise Zen Pinball 3D because you can experience every level within an hour?
I do wish the later levels were harder to unlock though, but clearly the inclusion of the indestructible rubber ball shows that the main draw of this game is highscore chasing.
Therefore the overlookation of online is inexcusable.

I'd argue that the circle pad controls aren't sensitive enough. I also love the 3D, but I can see how some may find it distracting.

6.5 for me.

TalkBack / Re: Wii U Virtual Console Announced
« on: January 23, 2013, 10:45:04 AM »
GBA support on the Wii U Virtual Console was unexpected. Depending on what those games blown up into HD looks like, it may even be undesirable.  However, this price markup to play your Virtual Console games on the GamePad is ridiculous, as is that the only games right now that will support the feature are NES and SNES games.  That's a feature that should have been on the Wii U at launch.  Nintendo's merely making changes to a single emulator for each platform, & then repackaging it w/ the existing games.  Charging for this "feature" for each game you dare to desire to play on the GamePad (when "U playing all by Urself with the Gamepad" is one of Nintendo's big selling points with the Wii U) is pretty ridiculous.

You paid to play your games on the Wii. You thought that the price was fair, otherwise you wouldn't have paid it. When you buy a boxed video game, you get only one copy of it. Why should a download game be different? I didn't expect Nintendo to give me Ocarina of Time 3D for free, nor do I expect them to give me Wind Waker HD for free. Why do you expect Nintendo to give you an enchanced version of a game you bought on a different console, for free?

It's Pokedex 3D Pro on sale, not Dream Radar. Either that or you messed up Dream Radar's price.

Angry Birds is a rip off of a cheap flash game released several years prior to it.

TalkBack / Re: Ranking the Professor Layton Series
« on: November 17, 2012, 09:21:09 PM »
I haven't finished Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask yet, but I'd have to agree with you about the other four games in the series in terms of ranking. I'll admit, Unwound Future is so far my favorite. In my opinion, it had the most saddest and realistic plot out of them all. It just disappoints me that that there will not be a sequel to that magnificent game.  :(
Never say never!

Great, now how about releasing Netflix for the 3DS in Europe. It's only been, what, 16 months since it launched in the US?

TalkBack / Re: Nintendo Land Impressions
« on: September 17, 2012, 01:53:25 PM »
There can be no way that Nintendo Land can be as good as the impressions, which have been unanimously positive (other than those for Takamaru's Ninja Castle). There seems to be a nice range of genres (Shooter, RTS, Racing, Chasing, Platformer etc.) and the games look brilliant and great fun, which really is unexpected. I guess now we know why it featured so prominently at E3 though - Nintendo thought people would judge the game on its quality. Foolish.

I'm a huge fan of Balloon Trip, so I see myself playing this for hours. Online high scores, please.

Thanks for posting the worldwide times! Unfortunately, the presentation ends just as I get back from school, but at least it will be a nice treat for when I get home... Hopefully.

That should be E3 2011, not 2010.
I'm sure there's a decent chance of this having online play. Nintendo Land does have some online features, so hopefully it will extend to the games, because this looks awesome!

Do Nintendo hate the Earthbound series or something? I'm surprised they haven't removed it from Nintendo's history yet, a la (is that the expression?) the Zelda CD-i games.

Sorry, Plants Vs. Zombies is the 10th best selling download, Cut the Rope is 17th. At the prices they're at, that's not bad.

I think Cut the Rope is the 10th best selling download of all time on the EU eShop. At 5€ a pop, that's a lot of profit for the developers.

Bird Mania 3D is brilliant, one of the best games on the eShop, and to me that is the same style of game one might play on iOS, and priced as cheaply as possible for 3DS games.

Next we'll see New Super Mario World or Land, I think, and I hope they will actually put some effort in.

I never owned the first two NSMB games (borrowed 1 for a short time, only played Wii twice), so I'll be getting 2 and probably U, but if there's another near identical games, they can forget aboot it!

On a side note, there needs to be a Wario Brothers game. We've had Land 1-4 and Shake Dimension, as well as World, so I want Bros. next! Waluigi needs more attention.

Hmmm. I played this game at Comic Con, and tbh you could have told me It was New Super Mario Bros. 2, 1, Wii, 3, U, 12, X or 455 and I would have smiled and nodded. Coin collecting has always been a major part of the Mario formula and the new focus on it just cheapens it for me. At least Wii and U have new power ups/ Yoshis, but all this has is a golden re-skin of the fire flower... *yawn*
IMO, of course.

Ha. "Bobbins." I like that.

It's what my grandmother would say! :P

That is why I did not even mention it. It might as well not be there at all. all you do is fight people using the so-so combat.

Just thought I would mention it, since it was a deciding factor in my purchase of the game - I probably wouldn't have downloaded it yet if it didn't say it had online on its eShop page. Still, it is hard to put into words just how bad it actually is, so "bobbins" and "might as well not be there" will have to suffice.

Just some info for people: the online in this game is absolute bobbins. It's great that they included online, but it really is useless.

Is it worth TEN dollars though?  I'd be way more likely to buy it if it were 4.99 or so.  Maybe I'll wait for it to be on a weekend sale.

It was supposed to be a $30-40 retail game, so $10 is a steal, and not really very much money. Just because it's on the eShop doesn't mean that it has to be amazingly cheap - NSMB2 will cost $40 on the eShop.
