Dead Space Extraction May Release on Natal and Move
« on: March 31, 2010, 03:11:24 PM »
The exclusive Wii title could see a multiplatform release in the near future.
 http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=22833

In a segment of G4TV, EA executive producer Steve Papoutsis expressed his thoughts on a possible Dead Space: Extraction port for Microsoft's Natal and Sony's Move. "It's definitely something that sounds pretty cool... That's all you can really say about that."

Dead Space: Extraction was released last year as a Wii exclusive. Despite a solid reception the title only sold 9,000 copies in its first month of release. Several analysts commented that EA's lack of advertising for the title hurt its overall sales potential.

I wonder if they'd eat the costs of making or adapting HD assets for such ports or if they'd just release the game as-is with just control adjustments.  I don't see such a port working out for them, but I suppose at this point EA would consider even 1,000 more copies of the game being sold some sort of victory considering how badly the game bombed on Wii.

I wonder if, when this bombs even worse on the other consoles than it did on the Wii, EA will realize that the game didn't flop because there's no audience for a mature game on the Wii but because it's a horrible concept that nobody asked for.

I disagree with the notion that it was a "horrible concept".  It's just one that should have been released alongside a traditional Wii Dead Space game to complement that style of play, as well as a longer adventure overall with more unlockables.

Tell ya what: if they pretty it up to the level of the original Dead Space, I'll buy it.
This would be my PSN Trophy Card, but I guess I can't post HTML in my Signature. I'm the pixel spaceship, and I have nine Gold trophies.

You know what? I actually bought and played through the whole game and it's really not as good as everyone says it is.  You spend most of the time just listening to people talk and wandering hallways with shaky-cam and the entire game is only about 5 hours long.  That's even after you wander through the same environments multiple times.  I didn't pay 50$ for it but if I did I would be pissed.  It should have never been relased for full price because it was not only short but painfully linear giving no real replay value.  Combine that with it being from a niece series in a niece genre and there's no wonder it sold so little.  The whole time playing I just wish I had control of the movement.  I can see EA selling it on Xbox Live Arcade and PSN for $15, having it be successful on that, and then using it as "evidence" that the Wii doesn't have a mature market.

I remember Johnny saying that the game didn't demo well because the demo mostly consisted of character interactions with little shooting, well that's actually what most of the game is like so that demo was pretty accurate.

I know I'm rambling but the whole situation and handling of the game kind of pisses me off.

I agree with The Zoltan. Wandering across a room and staring at a door while nothing else happens is not my idea of a fun 60 seconds.

I didn't mind the extended dialogue sequences so much because I felt that's where the game was its strongest, telling a very cinematic storyline.  My big  problems with the game were the utter lack of replay value due to no worthwhile extras, as well as extremely easy gameplay (seriously, every single non-boss can be taken down just by hitting them with Stasis and then pelting them with pistol shots, with almost no danger of every dying) that never posed a serious challenge.

Oh, and by the way: "niece" != "niche".  ;)

I say let them have it. But I wouldn't be surprised if EA actually advertised it this time around since it will probably be launching with both Move and Natal.

A lackluster game is the wrong place to be for a strong, cinematic storyline.

EDIT:  Really, aren't Wii games supposed to sell by interesting fundamental gameplay first?

Best of luck to EA. I don't think it has much of a chance on other platforms, but it'll be interesting to see what happens. Same with HD remake of No More Heroes.

If the Natal version lets me point my finger at the screen and yell, "Pew Pew!" to shoot I will buy it.

I personally don't see how this is news that we should really be concerned with... but whatever.

I liked Extraction.

It probably could have used an extra month in development though. And some advertising.

It's also the start of Wii Exclusives (due to motion/pointer controls) no longer being exclusive.
It could lead to somewhere worse   than we already are with 3rd Party support..... but it could be just   the opposite too.

Considering that because of THIS there is a Game Developer Death Watch 2009/2010 Thread, I seriously have no worries. When the X-Box/PS3 disregard the Wii as nothing but waggle ****, how the **** does Microsoft/Sony/Third Parties expect the same success Nintendo has with their audience?

Seriously, HOW THE ****?

Well you know they are gonna go back and fix all the bugs, update the assets to HD, add a new weapon and a new level or two.

They might even go back and take out the rails portion of the game and turn it into a 3rd person shooter just to spite the Wii and it's fanbase.

I can read the headline already
"Dead Space Extraction heads to Move & Natal, Re-Tooled into 3rd Person Shooter due to Gamer Feedback"

Exactly. It seems weird that this was reported on a Nintendo-focused website when it has no real relevance.

If they can rush a port out for the launch of those peripherals, it might sell well. Remember, we bought stuff like Red Steel when the Wii was new. People will buy anything to try a new gizmo.

The only problem is, how many people will get those new 360/PS3 peripherals in the first place?

Obviously a ploy to break that 'most recorded users online' record that rests in the Forum Statistics. (Hint: Was set when RE4 PS2 Port was announced)
