Hell yeah, video games!
I wonder if they're changing the branding of the physical DVD service so they can sell of that part of the company...
As long as I just migrate over on my DVD side of things then yeah I love to get games too. I loved Gamefly but with the time sink that is my son I couldn't justify it anymore. Though I would hope they fully emulate Gamefly. Being able to just buy games you wanted at use price with a disc you've proven works is great.
This is sad. Why discard the brand recognition and loyalty that has been built up for over a decade? It's obvious that they're looking to essentially phase out the disc-based model. It has far more overhead, and supposedly less public interest. Separate billing, separate queues and ratings? Separate names and even companies? It's not a good move for the customer, but does show obvious intent relative to the future of their disc based services. If they were serious about maintaining their mail services, they would at least keep the billing and interface integrated. From there, what each customer see as being available could be based on exactly what subscription plan they have (streaming, just discs, Blu-Ray, games, etc).
The next move will be to scuttle the disc-based service altogether, claiming that it doesn't make enough money. Of course, Netflix will continue to offer a lackluster selection of streaming content that only works on certain systems, costs them an arm and a leg due to studio greed, and doesn't distinguish itself from the competition in any fundamental manner.
I guess I'll be seeing envelopes branding with that retarded Qwister name before too long. I expect this is the beginning of the end for the service however. It might take two or three years, but this is it right here. I hope the new Netflix enjoys pandering to the competition, begging to be allowed to stream content and paying extra for it not to expire on them mid-season.
Though about 3 years from now none of us will care about this one way or another.
Though about 3 years from now none of us will care about this one way or another.
...and why is that?
True enough, I suppose. Then you be caring about the company going away not the name and split. I'm in the same boat as you but, I can get some over the air. We use the disc and streaming at my house. Ironically the price didn't change that much if you had the bigger plan already.
I'm pretty sure that I'd care if the service died however. I don't subscribe to any sort of television service and am too far out for over-the-air signals. I rarely ever purchase films or video games due to the high costs. Netflix is the only avenue of dedicate entertainment that I have. I would certainly care if it ceased to exist, especially after being a very happy customer for about six years now.
As it stands, this doesn't effect me much at the present time. I dumped the streaming content the second they split it up due to the twice increased cost. I'll just have to put up with a really dumb sounding new name. From my perspective though, it seems pretty clear that this is the first step in phasing out the disc-based side of the business. That is the problem... or will be.
The price hike, and then another price hike a few months later, now splitting the brand up with no communication between them on a customer level is stupid.
also, think about this. The US postal service is in the pits right now, and might get shut down, from what i rememeber Netflix was their largest customer, polar bear die when the ice melts.
These are the same people that thought a non-government ran and funded Postal Service could survive long term. I mean seriously everyone knew the pricing model wasn't sound but needed.also, think about this. The US postal service is in the pits right now, and might get shut down, from what i rememeber Netflix was their largest customer, polar bear die when the ice melts.
I wouldn't worry too much about the USPS. Of all the dumb things the government has spent money on (wars on terrorism, wars on drugs, wars on cats, wars, wars, wars, corrupt bankers, short-sighted automobile industries, etc), I imagine they can spend a little on what has proven time and time again to be a ridiculously useful service.
Wait. That would be a sensible decision. Never mind, the USPS is doomed. :(
Sounds like a regular CEO. If my experience is any indication only 10% or so of CEO's are any good.
A plan for Qwikster to rent video games may or may not move forward; Mr. Swasey said it was “to be determined.”
Netflix, meanwhile, still has to concentrate on its online streaming service, which is widely considered to be its core business.
Next February, it is expected to lose the right to stream films from Walt Disney Studios and Sony Pictures Entertainment as a result of a failed renegotiation with the premium cable channel Starz. But it announced a deal last month with DreamWorks Animation to stream that studio’s films starting in 2013. Last week, it announced a deal with AMC Networks to stream old episodes of TV shows like “The Walking Dead.”
Netflix also remains interested in paying for the production of new TV shows. Earlier this year it ordered its first original drama, “House of Cards,” which is expected to have its premiere in late 2012. Now it is in talks to distribute new episodes of two cancelled TV series, “Arrested Development,” formerly of the Fox network, and “Reno 911,” formerly of Comedy Central. The past seasons of both shows can be streamed via Netflix — and can be rented on DVD, too.
It really sucks about losing Starz. I couldn't give a rat's ass, but I have two kids...so Disney movies on demand can be quite useful sometimes. I was surprised to see recent movies like Tangled and Toy Story 3 on there already.Yeah, but the TV Shows on it are great. I've gotten to introduce my son to a lot of good cartoons. Then he wants to watch Bob the Builder. Can't win them all.
CBS Corporation and Warner Bros. Television Group have signed a four-year deal with Netflix that will allow its customers to instantly watch more than 700 hours of previous seasons of scripted series that currently air on The CW, including episodes of Ringer, Hart of Dixie, The Secret Circle, The Vampire Diaries, Gossip Girl, 90210, Supernatural, Nikita, and One Tree Hill.
[...]
Previous seasons of The Vampire Diaries, Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill, and Nikita will be available to watch instantly on Oct. 15, with previous seasons of Supernatural and 90210 beginning in January 2012. Episodes of all scripted series airing on The CW this broadcast season will premiere for Netflix members next fall.
I noticed that this announcement made no mention of Smallville. They have not for a while.
I wonder why that is. Outside of a handful of shows, The CW doesn't really have anything to offer, so I hope they include the one show out of it's backlog that made it till the end. Maybe some of their saturday morning cartoon selection too (I'm assuming they have Saturday morning cartoons)
Is it worth me signing up to netflix streaming via VPN?
Especially if you like Discovery or Cartoons or Star Trek.Is it worth me signing up to netflix streaming via VPN?
Is it exclusively worth it? Probably not. I don't think any single show would be, however. That said, it's likely you'll find at least a few series that you enjoy.
Those examples make me feel sorry for what Disco and History have become. lolDiscovery has always been that way if you really think about it. History yeah. I don't know what happened there.
The two best films I watched were The Thing and Dark City. In fact I've got a petty bias against the new Thing movie because I figure there is no way in hell it will compare John Carpenter's version (which itself was actually a remake of a REALLY bad and dated film).
How can The Thing have a sequel though?
Doesn't MacReady blow Childs away with a flamethrower at the end? Even though we don't actually see Childs die, MacReady giving Childs some booze and him taking a swig of it without any concern of MacReady being The Thing proves that Childs is. MacReady acknowledged that and I'm sure he torched his ass.

I just assumed the two of them drank together and froze to death. But one of the cool things about this film is the ambiguity of the ending.
I think the new Thing film demonstrates what's wrong with Hollywood these days. John Carpenter's Thing is almost 30 years old and the special effects are totally believable. The effects in the commercials for the new film look like totally fake CG. Shouldn't filmmaking techniques IMPROVE over time? The special effects from any decently budgetted film from 1981 just kills the **** out of any 1951 film and yet 2011 films consistently look faker than 1981 films. That would be like if videogame graphics went from today's graphics to N64 level graphics. It doesn't make sense. You don't go backwards!
Even with films that have CG I often find older films look better. Terminator 2 and Jurassic Park were both groundbreaking films in regards to CG and yet when I look at those films most of the effects are more believable than what I see now. If I made a big budget film today I would want my special effects shots to look as good as The Thing's. Would that even be possible? Didn't they use stop motion? Does anyone in Hollywood know how to do that anymore?
Netflix to Launch Service in the UK and Ireland for Streaming Movies and TV Shows in Early 2012

They wanted to split before Europe. That makes sense. How they went about it was totally wrong.
The websites should stay somewhat integrated. Ratings on one site should carry over to the other and Netflix and Qwikster can be separated like tabs within the main website. Click on the Netflix tab and you are searching through streaming options, Qwikster tab and you have all your disc options. 2 sites graphed together yet separate.
They should also keep the billing as one thing too, but I'm sure there is a business reason for that too.
I understand sorta why they are separating them, Netflix the streaming service is attempting to go world wide with service already expanded to Canada & Latin America and attempting to hit Europe at some point soon too. Splitting the business streamlines the amount of content they have to maintain.
Split then Price Change would have been better.
*shrug* I hope Europe doesn't expect Discs. That ain't going to happen it be to much.

Honestly, Jar Jar Binks really isn't that bad as a piece of CG.
Honestly, Jar Jar Binks really isn't that bad as a piece of CG.
Except he was stupid and annoying a ****.
my biggest problem is when people complain about CG, they have no respect for CG artists, but seem to prefer traditional artists. What they don't realize is CG and traditional art take the same skill sets. The thing is CG is 100 times as hard and is about 20 times as time consuming.

I have respect for the artists that do it well. If it's not convincing it isn't done well. You can work your balls off and still get shitty results.
Any movie takes a buttload of work, even Ed Wood's films would have. If I don't like the results, tough. I'm not going to give a free pass because of the work involved. That's just how it is. Every crappy videogame we've ever played also took tons of work from people that specialized skills in graphics design and programming. Yet we rag on that.
The biggest problem with everyone critiquing things is the all or nothing approach the common reviewer takes, either its totally good or totally bad. Theres no middle ground, no grey, its all black and white and that's so annoying.
I have a questions for everyone.
My girl wants me to watch Gossip Girl with her.
I've made her sit through countless shows with me, and for the most part they have all been good. I didn't force her to sit through anything she thought was stupid and would instead watch it on my own. Now she ask me to watch Gossip Girl with her....
I figured it's only fair to sit through one show with her, and I have already sorta watched the first 2 episodes.
So my question is, is this a good show?
Do we see a pattern I should be concerned about?
Another sci-fi show worth looking at is Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, which is available in its entirety on Netflix Instant.
The third season was good. The fourth season was amazing. Great writing, just the right amount of fan service.
I know Capt. Jean Luc Picard and the Clingons, and the Borg and Data and all that stuff.
I haven't seen Legends from Earthsea yet...Is that Studio Ghibli as well?
Wow. Just wow. Either you watched the wrong movies and formed an opion from a small sampling, or you're inhuman. I wouldn't be surprised if its the latter.Be one of us.

Seriously though let me pull up a list of there work:
1 Castle in the Sky (Seen Most of (Own))
2 Grave of the Fireflies (Watched Twice. I think everyone should see this particular one. Very Depressing.)
3 My Neighbor Totoro (Seen a good amount of(Own))
4 Kiki's Delivery Service (I've seen this one(Own))
5 Only Yesterday (Haven't seen)
6 Porco Rosso (Haven't Seen)
7 Ocean Waves (Haven't Seen)
8 Pom Poko (Haven't Seen)
9 Whisper of the Heart (Haven't watched this one(Own))
10 Princess Mononoke (I want to say I have seen this one. I know at the least its been in the house.)
11 My Neighbors the Yamadas (Haven't Seen)
12 Spirited Away (I haven't watched this(Own))
13 The Cat Returns (I know I've seen part of this at the very least.)
14 Howl's Moving Castle (Seen)
15 Tales from Earthsea (Haven't Seen)
16 Ponyo (Seen. I enjoyed Ponyo but, yet again much like watching golf on TV. Pretty to watch and I can only get into it in a rudimentary way. (own))
I think I have a pretty good sampling.
WHERE THE **** IS NAUSICAA ON THAT LIST? FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIL.
I'm just joking with you Ceric. Although Nausicaa is not on your list.
Suffice it to say I haven't see Nausicaa.
My bad then. Everytime I see the name Ghibli I instantly associate it with Hayao Miyazaki...Looks interesting.Suffice it to say I haven't see Nausicaa.
It's alright that you haven't seen it. To me it is by far my favorite Hayao Miyazaki film.
I got a question for all you Netflix users out there. What The Avengers movie BnM? Can you link it?
Would you be mad at Netflix if they offered Premium Streaming Rentals?
That would be like those movies that now get Digital releases before they even hit the theater and maybe New releases before Netflix is allowed to release the DVD's.
So say that Paranormal Activity 4 was gonna hit Theaters in March, but Netflix allowed you a 48 Hour streaming rental for an extra $5 (you get to watch it on any device that is connected through your account)
Or The Avengers movie was about to hit DVD this Tuesday, but Netflix can't mail out the DVD's till 4 tuesdays from then, but they offer you a premium 48hr Streaming Rental for $5 starting on release day (this tuesday).
Would you be mad at that or actually think it to be a good idea?
What The Avengers movie BnM? Can you link it?
I don't think I be hip with that because its a slippery slope problem.
Other companies already do this kind of thing (Apple, for one), so I don't think it's that unlikely. Ceric's right, though, this could be a slippery slope toward less support for regular streaming in favor of this.
That sound you’re hearing is customers coming back to Netflix for one of the best comedies of all time. The online streaming and rental company has closed a deal to exclusively air new episodes of Arrested Developement in as early as 2013. These are most likely the episodes series creator Mitch Hurwitz mentioned last month as a lead in to a long-rumored feature film. There’s more after the jump.
[...]
Two of the show’s producers, Brian Grazer and Ron Howard (also the show’s narrator) released the following statement:
Of all the projects we’ve been involved with over the years, we probably get more questions about Mitch Hurtwitz’s brilliant ‘Arrested Development’ than any other– everyone, ourselves included, seems to feel like the Bluths left the party a bit too soon. Bringing a series back from cancellation almost never happens, but then, ‘Arrested’ always was about as unconventional as they get, so it seems totally appropriate that this show that broke the mold is smashing it to pieces once again

A few months ago the Blockbusters near my parents' house closed. The one near my house had closed a few months prior to that. Netflix in Canada sucks balls. The selection is pathetically slim. The problem is that since Canada is a different country the distribution rights are different. A deal made to show a film on Netflix in the US does not necessarily apply to Canada. Sometimes completely different companies have the distribution rights in the different countries.
This has created an annoying situation where in my area legal movie viewing has become a scarcity. Renting essentially does not current exist. The only options are to either catch a film while in theatre, buy the DVD or Blu Ray (and for a new film that's kind of pricey for something you've haven't seen and don't even know if it's good) or just plain pirate the film. Netflix is stuck in a catch 22 where the selection does not improve if the Canadian market does not demonstrate itself to be profitable. But without a good selection there is no value is subscribing to Netflix. I honestly think if the streaming video options do not improve, Canada will lose the after-theatre-run movie market to piracy.
During my free trial of Netflix I did see some good stuff (in fact my brother and I pretty much saw EVERYTHING good). The two best films I watched were The Thing and Dark City. In fact I've got a petty bias against the new Thing movie becaues I figure there is no way in hell it will compare John Carpenter's version (which itself was actually a remake of a REALLY bad and dated film).
I just "watched" the first Thing during the podcast this weekend, that's why watched is in quotes. I have to say it felt like I was starting on the second movie rather then the first. Which I'm fine with. I actually enjoy that sort of thing. I be interested to see the prequel just to see how someone would explain all that.A few months ago the Blockbusters near my parents' house closed. Its hard to say how people react to the new Thing, most people just avoid it like the plague, in one review someone said "much like the creature in the movie, the prequel is a souless imitation gone horribly wrong". However, if you really liked The Thing and ever nerded out to it, than I would say the Prequel is for you. Theres a difference between being a casual viewer who enjoyed it, and then being someone who discerningly dissected the movie. Its really hard to get a masterpiece like the original 82' version without watching it repeatedly, and with commentary, and special features, and online interviews. The prequel is good as fan service essentially, but im sure if you casually watched the first one and were a fan you might hate it. You have to reach like the 4th level of appreciation to really enjoy the sequel and im guessing only 30% of veiwers will ever achieve that.
yeah, thats the great thing about the thing. Clearly some **** went down right before this incident. This thing is moving in waves. Now I want to know what going to go down at the Russian camp.Is that what the game is?

On February 6th, Netflix will premiere its first scripted show, “Lilyhammer,” in which Steve Van Zandt (“The Sopranos”) plays a New York mobster in witness protection in Norway. Later this year, it will release “House of Cards,” a highly anticipated adaptation of the British miniseries produced by David Fincher and starring Kevin Spacey. Next year, it will debut new episodes of the cultish comedy “Arrested Development,” which originally aired on Fox.
Hastings offers a comparison between Netflix and HBO: “We are becoming more like them in doing some originals, starting that journey, and they are becoming more like us in creating an on-demand interface like HBO Go,” which allows viewers to watch channels on the Web and on mobile and tabulate devices.
HBO declined to comment.
Production schedules will vary widely at the sites, but Netflix plans one notable difference: All its episodes will be released at once.
so what should I watch on Netflix? I watched most of Prison Break(well i stopped at season 4), The Riches, and a bunch of other things, what next?Sherlock,Wreckreation Nation,Mythbuster, Prototype This, Smashlab, All forms of Star Trek, Quantum Leap, My Little Pony Friendship is Magic, Transformers, Transformers Prime, First Season of Walking Dead, How its Made...
Breaking Bad.I watched the first few episodes of Breaking Bad from the wonderful review it got on the forums. It just wasn't hooking me in. It felt like it was going no where fast and I couldn't really relate to the characters and it was telling a story at its base that I'm tired of hearing.
Keep watching. It starts slow, but the pace continues to build. The transformation of Walt's character from someone who took several episodes to kill someone at the beginning of the series to someone who was willing to (Major Season 4 finale spoilers)poison a child in order to get what he wants is done so well, and somehow I'm still rooting for him despite that because of how well the series hooks you in.
Just finished up both seasons of Kenichi:The Mightiest Disciple. It is a great anime that I recommend to everyone.

That was a pretty good mix there. Your mileage may vary, but Definetly Sherlock.
Watch the theatrical cut of Legend for a somewhat different experience. I personally like Ridley's Director's Cut better, but it can be a chore to get through if you aren't in the right mood.

Netflix scoops Disney (Disney, Pixar, Marvel, ABC, ESPN) Exclusivity in the USI think that article really shows that Netflix is understanding its demographic. Disney is a big win for them because if you have a child and want to watch a variety of TV with them Netflix is the way to go now with Disney even more so. I also think Disney knows it as well. People who have Netflix are more likely to just forgo there offerings that are fully backed by their Merchandising Machine.

This is a BIG get for Netflix.
I'm wondering if LucasFilm will join this list. I doubt it though.I'm sure everything that Fox doesn't retain publishing rights to eventually.
Actually the deal starts next year with the TV and direct to video movies, "first run" movies don't start till 2016.
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is coming to Netflix streaming Saturday, so if you haven't seen one of the best comedies on television you'll have a great chance to now.

I am sorry, but it is one of the worst shows on TV. I gave it a shot, but it sucked. The last episode I watched was when they found some cocaine and sold it and tried getting the money back. That show has only survive because FX has low standards, this is the same network that gave Charlie Sheen 100 episodes for his crappy new sitcom.
Watch The Artist, great movie!
That's a no brainer. Casablanca is probably the greatest movie ever made.It actually has won that Designation.
Netflix news! (http://www.engadget.com/2013/01/14/netflix-lands-deal-for-turner-and-warner-bros-tv-series-beginni/)
Rumors that Netflix was offering ISPs access to higher quality streams in return for partnering on distribution surfaced early last year, and were followed by the announcement of its Open Connect CDN network in June. Now the full picture has been revealed with the company's announcement of "Super HD" 1080p and (in the US only, for now) 3D streaming, which comes to its customers at no extra cost, but only on certain devices plugged in to to Open Connect partner ISPs. The hardware list includes PS3, WiiU, Windows 8, Roku, Apple TVs as well as Blu-ray players and smart TVs with 1080p support.
According to Netflix, most of its international streams are already going through compatible ISPs, however the only major participants announced in the US currently are Cablevision and Google Fiber. Watch Instantly customers can see if their ISP on the list by visiting the Super HD page and, if it isn't, they're encouraged to call and ask for it.

We've been seeing some 3D ready titles pop up on the service in the last few weeks and now viewers can access titles like Art of Flight, Immortals and several titles from 3net. According to Dan Rayburn of Streaming Media Blog, the higher-quality encodes are targeted for 7 Mbps, while 3D streams top out at 12 Mbps.
That can't be right, the AppleTV only supports 720p.
some WB stuff like Justice League/Unlimited, Batman Beyond & Batman:BatB,finally beyond is on their,
Definitely gonna watch Adventure Time.
So I am marathoning Fringe right now on Netflix
what is the significance of the "negative" images they show inbetween scenes and episodes?
the leaf, the 6 fingered hand, the apple, the frog.
I think they sometimes have a little yellow light next to them.
is there a significance to these images?
I really liked Season 4, it was different. If you're hoping for something like the original run, you're gonna be disappointed. Mainly because I don't think they're gonna do it like that again, but even if they did, it wouldn't be as good.
Netflix has another original show coming out next month
Orange is the New Black - July 11th, 2013
I blitzed through Breaking Bad right after. There are a few so-so episodes, but it's one of the best shows I've ever seen even though Walter is kind of a dick, Jesse is uber-emo, and seriously, **** Skyler. Besides the borderline racist things Hank says, he's probably my favorite character on the show (maybe Saul for how delightfully smarmy he is). And Gus's death scene was awesome. I have no idea where the show is going (haven't seen any of Season 5 since I don't have cable). My guess is that Hank is going to find out what Walt has been doing the last year or so though Mike got conveniently written out of the excellent Season 4 end so I wonder where they're going with that.
I thought the first episode of Orange is the New Black was poor. I thought the second episode was better. I still think House of Cards is the best original that they have done.
I haven't watched any of the original programming yet, but it all sounds good. I think I'll start with Arrested Development since I never watched the earlier seasons either and everyone always says how great they are, then probably House of Cards since I love my political dramas.
Netflix is rolling out its long-anticipated user profiles, allowing multiple members of a household to create personalized accounts and get personalized recommendations based on their own individual viewing habits, rather than the habits of an entire household.Wii U didn't make the cut...
When a new user signs up, he will be prompted to create user profiles for everyone in the household, and they will be asked to create a taste profile based on genres that they prefer. Subscribers can create up to five user profiles per account, providing some much-needed flexibility for households where tastes vary widely.
When opening the app on any of a number of supported platforms, Netflix subscribers will be prompted to choose their profile. The app will then suggest programming based on what they’ve watched before or what their favorite shows or movies are.
According to Netflix Chief Product Officer Neil Hunt, the new profiles will be created as blank slates, wiping out previous data-driven recommendations until it learns what a user likes. For those who have been Netflix subscribers for a while, that might seem like a lot of valuable data to just throw out. But Hunt says that Netflix recommendations are heavily weighted toward recent activity anyway — so it won’t take long before suggestions once again become relevant.
User profiles will begin to roll out to users beginning today, and will become gradually available to existing users over the next couple of weeks. At first, users will only be able to create new profiles on the Netflix website or on the PlayStation 3. But profiles will be accessible across a wide range of devices, including the website, PS3, Xbox 360, iPad, iPhone, AppleTV, as well as most newer smart TVs. More devices will be added over time, making profiles eventually ubiquitous.
...Netflix waited till it was a compelling reason to use Netflix for the recommendations. Enough so you would be willing to jump through a hoop to do it. Say what you will but a million paper cuts can kill you. Having to choose a profile each time is well annoying so it better be worth something.
This is very much long overdue.
It would have been great if they had done this back when they did the "just for kids" split, that way you atleast separate those viewed shows from the rest of your Netflix.Yeah I'm sort of surprised they didn't partition those two. Though I would like to be able to use a profile to restrict my son. I rather he didn't watch Orange is the New Black and I can't watch him all the times.
I dint need recommendations for Dora and My Littlest Pet Shop, along with dozens of other kiddie things I have no interest in just because they were watched on the Netflix kids partition.
Apparently if you have a supported 3D device and the movie is 3D available, it will prompt you prior to starting the movie to ask if you want to view in 3D.Anyone tested 3DS yet?
The NFL doesn't have a problem. It's the most watched and most profitable of the major sports leagues, IIRC. What they're trying to do see just how much the league can make.
I think Netflix rates are going to go up eventually, probably by $1/month, but I doubt this deal would be a driver. If it happened.
other than the premier league I would guess. Still I'd rather much have Viacom or Starz content since those kind of go into the main point of netflix.
I know they're doing it to milk money but I'd rather pay $100 a year to get all the games. I have a year of NFL sunday ticket I got with madden 25.
So Dexter is now Streamable on Netflix. My wife tells me it is just the first three seasons or so but this gives me hope that other HBO shows could finally make their way to the service. Tru Blood is supposed to end soon so that may appear as well. I'm sure Game of Thrones won't be on the service for a long time which is a pity.

They need to just ditch the DVD thing, or make everything available through streaming.
BURBANK, Calif., Nov. 7, 2013 – The Walt Disney Co. (NYSE: DIS) and Netflix Inc. (NASDAQ: NFLX) today announced an unprecedented deal for Marvel TV to bring multiple original series of live-action adventures of four of Marvel’s most popular characters exclusively to the world’s leading Internet TV Network beginning in 2015. This pioneering agreement calls for Marvel to develop four serialized programs leading to a miniseries programming event.Led by a series focused on “Daredevil,” followed by “Jessica Jones,” “Iron Fist” and “Luke Cage,” the epic will unfold over multiple years of original programming, taking Netflix members deep into the gritty world of heroes and villains of Hell’s Kitchen, New York. Netflix has committed to a minimum of four, thirteen episodes series and a culminating Marvel’s “The Defenders” mini-series event that reimagines a dream team of self-sacrificing, heroic characters.Produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Television Studios, this groundbreaking deal is Marvel’s most ambitious foray yet into live-action TV storytelling.“This deal is unparalleled in its scope and size, and reinforces our commitment to deliver Marvel’s brand, content and characters across all platforms of storytelling. Netflix offers an incredible platform for the kind of rich storytelling that is Marvel’s specialty,” said Alan Fine, President of Marvel Entertainment. “This serialized epic expands the narrative possibilities of on-demand television and gives fans the flexibility to immerse themselves how and when they want in what’s sure to be a thrilling and engaging adventure.”“Marvel’s movies, such as ‘Iron Man’ and Marvel’s ‘The Avengers’, are huge favorites on our service around the world. Like Disney, Marvel is a known and loved brand that travels,” said Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos. “With ‘House of Cards’ and our other original series, we have pioneered new approaches to storytelling and to global distribution and we’re thrilled to be working with Disney and Marvel to take our brand of television to new levels with a creative project of this magnitude.”This new original TV deal follows last year’s landmark movie distribution deal through which, beginning with 2016 theatrically released feature films, Netflix will be the exclusive U.S. subscription television service for first-run, live-action and animated movies from the Walt Disney Studios, including titles from Disney, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, Marvel Studios, Disneynature and Lucasfilm. Netflix members can currently enjoy a wide range of Disney, ABC TV and Disney Channel films and shows across the 41 countries where Netflix operates.[/color]
Someone is just having fun now with The Killing. The crime series was cancelled, for the second time, earlier this year. And now, for the second time, it's been resurrected, with Netflix announcing they will exclusively debut Season 4.
Season 4 will be a short one, comprised of just six episodes and is being promoted as the final season for the series (though at this point, should we believe them!?). Regardless, The Killing: Season 4's existence is something of a TV miracle at this point. The show debuted to great reviews and buzz for AMC, but lost much of its support by the end of Season 1, with many turned of by where its murder mystery plot went - or didn't go, as it were. Season 2 saw viewership drop and AMC cancelled the series.
However, Fox Television Studios, who produce The Killing, were determined to try and save it and a new deal was struck that caused AMC to bring it back at a lower cost, with Netflix paying to stream the series. But with numbers still low -- and despite many feeling the show was creatively much stronger in Season 3 -- the series was again cancelled by AMC this year, and thought to be dead for good this time. But yet again, Fox Television Studios has found a way for the show to continue, striking a new deal for The Killing to become a Netflix original series.
Stars Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman will return for Season 4, as will the show's creator/executive producer, Veena Sud.
“The rich, serialized storytelling in The Killing thrives on Netflix, and we believe that it is only fitting to give Sarah Linden and Stephen Holder a proper send off,” said Cindy Holland, vice president of original content for Netflix. “We are looking forward to offering fans - both existing and new - a series that we know is perfectly suited for on-demand viewing.”
David Madden, president, Fox Television Studios, commented, “It’s a true testament to The Killing creator Veena Sud, and the stellar cast led so compellingly by Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman, that fans remained so passionate about the show. We’re gratified that our partners at Netflix recognized this, and are giving us the opportunity to complete the story in a way that will be satisfying to our loyal audience."
Netflix has become the Afterlife of CableTV. Not only can you catch shows long after they've aired, but now Netflix is bringing them back as New Original Series.
**** Dudes I wish someone had told me earlier that the Netflix original programming was as good as it was. I watched Arrested Development when it launched and just thought it was meh. I'm watching lillyhammer and i'm hooked. Going to do house of Cards and than the Rommney Documentary next.
I haven't watched any of the original programming yet, but it all sounds good. I think I'll start with Arrested Development since I never watched the earlier seasons either and everyone always says how great they are, then probably House of Cards since I love my political dramas.
You can skip Hemlock Grove, or whatever it was called, as that show didn't make no damn sense.
Arrested Development s1-s3 are great. s4 (the Netflix Original) is decent.
House of Cards is a good show.
Orange is the New Black is the best new original show that Netflix has offered up yet. IMO.
There is another Netflix Original too, starring one of the mobsters from the Sopranos, it was ok, but I don't even remember what it was called. I think it made it to a second season, but then again, it might not have actually been a Netflix show.
I'm think about dumping Netflix and switching to Amazon Prime. The buffering issues have been terrible for about a month.
Anyone recommend a free VPN DNS?
I was wondering that too.
No offense, Caliban, but that link was no help. I have no idea why you thought it would.
Here Shyguy, check out OpenVPN.
I'm gonna try it out now if you want to wait and here what I had to do or if it's worth it.
EDIT: Easy as cake my dude. Just follow the directions on their site. I'm about to do some speed tests. I'll get back to this thread when I'm done.
A) No Politics.
B) FCC isn't taking over the internet by being told they're not allowed to regulate aspects of it.
a) It's not their decision.
b) Not regulating something is about the exact opposite of "taking over" it.
c) ISPs need to be turned into "Common Carriers", but it seems no one wants that.
Nothing says hypocrisy like saying "No Politics" then having a 4 point political response in the same post.A) There was only three points.
I thought it was always capped at 2, which I think is already quite fair. 4 screens at once for $12 is still one hell of a deal.
Only 2 active streams at once is now being enforced.
It would be a nightmare for only 2 devices.
Up until last night, my Netflix was active on the following devices:
3 Computers
1 Smart TV
1 Smart Phone
3 Tablets
3 Wii
1 Wii U
1 Smart Bluray
1 Roku
being used by upto 6 different people at any given time.
now I'm down to:
2 Computers
1 Smart TV
1 Smart Phone
1 Tablets
1 Wii
1 Wii U
1 Smart Bluray
1 Roku
and only being used by 3 people. 2 streams should never be a problem again.
Well, as it was it mentioned, Amazon Prime prices went up. I'm thinking Netflix was being hesitant about raising prices, but Amazon wasn't.
Verizon has struck back at what it calls a Netflix "PR stunt" that blames its network for poor video quality. Last night, Netflix began testing an error message telling users that congestion with their ISP was hurting their service quality. "The Verizon network is crowded right now," said one message shown during buffering. But "this claim is not only inaccurate, it is deliberately misleading," says Verizon, suggesting that the choice was a political move meant to score points in the net neutrality fight. "It is sad that Netflix is willing to deliberately mislead its customers so they can be used as pawns in business negotiations and regulatory proceedings," it says. Here's its reasoning:Quote from: VerizonThe source of the problem is almost certainly NOT congestion in Verizon’s network. Instead, the problem is most likely congestion on the connection that Netflix has chosen to use to reach Verizon’s network. Of course, Netflix is solely responsible for choosing how their traffic is routed into any ISP’s network. The issue in question isn't that a network was crowded, it's which one was crowded. While Netflix's statement implies that the problem lies with the "last mile" of Verizon service, Verizon says the issue is really Netflix's connection to that last mile. This segment is the subject of a power struggle between Netflix and ISPs, who have been negotiating over how the service can reach subscribers. Netflix has struck deals with Comcast and Verizon to connect directly to their networks, rather than using a third-party service to send data, and Verizon rightly points out that it's playing fast and loose with the limits of the "Verizon network." "It would be more accurate for Netflix's message screen to say: 'The path that we have chosen to reach Verizon's network is crowded right now,'" said the post. But given that Verizon itself has control over how to manage and upgrade those connections, there's some hair-splitting going on from both sides.
Netflix is reviving The Magic School Bus with 26 new episodes.I take issue with it being CG.

Just don't change that glorious theme song. I remember when I heard the updated Reading Rainbow theme song (not the DMC version). I almost punched something.
Somebody needs to regulate that the speeds of internet access in this country are to hit milestones over the next 5 years or all exclusivity deals are off the table for being unfulfilled. Free reign to a free market or classified as a public utility or whatever.... as long as it frees up Google to start laying all that gigabit fiber from coast to coast.
The first Netflix original anime series, Knights of Sidonia, based on the popular manga series of the same name, follows Nagate, a low-born youth in a society of genetically engineered refugees who escaped the destruction of Earth one thousand years earlier and now occupy the massive ship Sidonia. When Nagate's talent as a pilot is revealed he becomes one of Sidonia's elite defenders against the Guana, shapeshifting aliens bent on eliminating humans from existence.
Clone Wars was cancelled?
I thought they went into their 6th and final season knowing that it was going to be the final season, as that's the way they planned it? It was 6 seasons right? I never finished it..... :/
Just finished Clone Wars season six. I may rewatch it in the order that the timeline for the series goes.
I haven't tried Knights yet. I'm waiting for new Lillyhammer, house of cards, and for the Marvel stuff to start.

I just finished Clone Wars as well. It was a nice final story arc but it is a pity it wasn't a full season. And S6 got a little too heavy with the hints of what was to come with Revenge of the Sith.
With how Disney is altering things to allow for more Jedi I do hope Rebels will carry on the tradition of delving into Star Wars lore. True, anything is game to be rewritten, but we all know of plenty of locations and characters that have the potential to be explored more in depth.
There have always been "loopholes" to allow for more Jedi. In the Legacy EU I can probably count a dozen Jedi who survived the purge. Plus episode 3's emergency call Obi-wan and Yoda sent out left a lot of room for a near limitless number to have survived (within reason).
I do wish that Lucas had chosen to use Maul in the rest of the prequel episodes. I liked Dooku (Christopher Lee is an amazing actor), but I think it would have been a better parallel to have Obi-wan dealing with Maul instead of Grievous in Episode's two and three. Would make it more personal for Obi-wam. At least the Clone Wars series gave Maul a bit more time and consideration.
In terms of movies I do hope they use some of the novels as reference. With the expansion of Dathomir in Clone Wars I think Courtship of Princess Leia would be a wonderful story to explore. I liked how the Night Sisters were portrayed and this could create some fun moments in a film. Would be a good way to introduce younger actors to play the Big Three.
you can post anything Netflix related in this thread.
If you are looking for recomendation based on what streaming on Netflix, this would be a good place to ask.
If you want to share some interesting news regarding Netflix, this would be the place to do that as well.
and I have 3 profiles, for 3 individual people.
My profile, the account original, is all FUCKED UP, since I had it long before profiles, and because certain devices don't do profiles (looking at you Wii U, which is sad, because the Wii does profiles...).
But I like the idea of different profiles for different genres. I thought about making myself a new profile, but that is so much effort in rating titles all over again. I just deal with it now.
What is Max? Is this a Netflix-enhancing program or a personal relation?
I hate that Wii U and 3DS do not have profiles. My wife always upsets my preferences when she uses them. I kept the Wii hooked up and that is now the dedicated Netflix Box so that I can play games on the Wii U when we watch and also maintain our profiles. I can deal with random recommendations, but the shared queue is what is really killing me. She adds to mine (and sometimes deletes) and there are shows on there I set aside for us to watch together that she then commits "Netflix Adultery" with and watches entire seasons before I figure it out.

Blame Disney and their "vault".
With the expection of the xbox one and chromecast i think netflix is the same UX everywhere now.Windows Phone is different and in a lot a ways Superior from all of them.
My mom has a windows phone, and I have not even been able to figure that thing out... Not to even figure out where the apps are.I'm going to help you out here.
It's a Windows Phone, I am not sure what everyone is expecting to get out of it other than terribleness. Nokia phones were durable until the company ran itself into the ground.
Considering the drops mine has had did she run over it?
Most of the Nokia phones at least are pretty durable.
Yeah in general the App selection is not on par with Android and iOS. Part of that is most of what people do that phone does fine from the base but, it's a shame.
I got a Roku 2 XS & a Roku 3
The Roku 3 is pretty fucking sweet and the XS isn't bad either, but it was a refurb, so occasionally has minor issues. Netflix runs quickly and smoothly on both, so what's the issue with yours?
Starting September 6th, Season 1 of NBC's The Blacklist will be available to watch (or re-watch, for diehard fans) on Netflix. This acquisition came with a hefty price tag though. $2 million an episode is what Netflix shelled out.
As Deadline reports, Netflix just entered into what is believed to be the "biggest subscription video-on-demand deal" in history with Sony Pictures TV. This $2 million per episode price stands for Season 1 and all future seasons of the James Spader series.
Netflix is getting very, very aggressive with its streaming deals. After picking up The Blacklist for a reported $2 million per episode, Netflix now has the rights to Gotham before the show has even aired.
According to Deadline, the deal between Netflix and Warner Bros. spans all Netflix territories (both present and future) and was "put in motion" soon after a successful May screening of the pilot in Los Angeles (our own take on the pilot wasn't quite as glowing). Each season will be made available after its broadcast run, which for the US could mean September 2015. Deadline says it's hearing $1.75 million per episode of Gotham, which isn't quite Blacklist money, but again... the show hasn't even aired yet. Which, if you're wondering, is September 22nd on Fox.
Last time I tried it worked. I uninstalled it, I think it was called Hola Better Internet or something. There are several things like it...

been watching The West Wing on the Netflix. Never caught it when it was on the TV. Dang good show so far. I am about halfway through the first season. I hear the first four seasons are good but that it drops off after that.
BnM: Young Justice Season 2 is really great. It is a huge change in the show...but the end will make you angry...Cartoon Network cancelled show when it really needed a Season 3.
Marco Polo is the least interesting part of Macro Polo.
Remember when "The Interview" was almost scrapped by Sony Pictures? Well in little less than a month, the film has hauled in $40 million through on-demand rentals and another $6 million in theaters.
And now it's coming to Netflix.
On Tuesday Netflix announced that, starting on Saturday, the scandalous Seth Rogen comedy will be available to its subscribers in the United States and Canada.
The terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it gives Sony another revenue stream as the studio aims to break even with the movie.
Attempting to reach more kids — and their parents — Netflix has ordered five new kids' shows, including remakes of the beloved animated television series Inspector Gadget and Danger Mouse.
Netflix has picked up the rights to an updated Inspector Gadget, the 1980s cartoon about the bumbling bionic private eye. Produced by Canadian television company DHX Media, the new series has already aired on broadcast television in Europe, but will premiere exclusively in the USA on Netflix in March
New Netflix show from Tina FeyI haven't been checking this thread. A new show from Tina Fey starring Jenna Maroney and Blowjob Girl. Why, yes, all of that. Please.

A love letter to the supernatural classics of the 80's, Stranger Things is the story of a young boy who vanishes into thin air. As friends, family and local police search for answers, they are drawn into an extraordinary mystery involving top-secret government experiments, terrifying supernatural forces and one very strange little girl.
Stranger things is great. Literally can't say anything bad about it. It also would work wonderfully as a book.
Netflix's hit Eighties-inspired sci-fi series Stranger Things will release two volumes of its synth-y soundtrack, the streaming service announced Wednesday. Stranger Things, Volume 1 arrives digitally August 12th, with a CD release planned for September 16th. Volume 2 is out digitally August 19th followed by a September 23rd physical release.
I watched the first episode of Troll Hunters, it was well polished, but felt a little generic.
Stranger Things 2 seems very enjoyable so far!
If anyone is looking for a good movie to watch tonight, Netflix has The Babadook currently. Could do worse for spooky movies.
Anyone interested in checking out the new Will Smith film, Bright? Looks intriguing. Fantasy in the modern world can be a fun experience when done right.
I'm the opposite. I haven't watched it because I think the concept is silly. Though, who knows maybe 7 years from now I'll be bored and alone and it will sound like a good idea that (https://book-of-ra-777.com) day.

Good news for any and all who were enchanted by Netflix’s macabre Halloween ’18 release, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina: the show will be around for years to come. With a second season still looming over the horizon, prepped for release on the streaming platform in April of 2019, Sabrina has nonetheless officially put a third and fourth season into motion.
Variety reports that Netflix has ordered 16 more episodes of the program to be distributed among the two seasons, which will begin production in ’19 and presumably reach the viewing public in 2020 and 2021. In the meantime, we’ve got Sabrina‘s holiday special, which only just hit the ‘net on December 14, to fill the Greendale void.
Co-created by Carell and Daniels and starring Carell, Space Force is centered around the people tasked with creating a sixth branch of the armed services…Space Force.
Steve Carell, who co-created the series, will star and executive produce. Daniels will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Fellow Office alum, 3 Arts’ Howard Klein, will also serve as executive producer.
I hear Space Force will not impact Carell’s starring role opposite Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon in Apple’s upcoming morning show drama series and he will do both.
Sabrina has been very interesting. I'm 1 ep away from the end, but the I've been into it.

Ironic is I always hated Versions of netflix that didn't have it. The Wii U had that first. Then they updated it and got rid of it, but then they brought it back on all platforms.
...
The worst part of auto play for me was that I end up with a few films in the "continue watching" row that I have no interest in watching.
To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before
When her secret love letters somehow get mailed to each of her five crushes, Lara Jean finds her quiet high school existence turned upside down.
Stranger Things is in a weird place; I feel like the more we get, the less impressive it all becomes. The writing last season didn't thrill me, even though I enjoyed watching it well enough. Rather than seeing quality tail off as they constantly try to go bigger each season, I kind of wish they'd just wrap it up and do something different.
That said, I'll definitely still watch another season.
...
Anyone going to check out the Dragon Warrior show on Netflix? Something about the style just looks so wrong. Animation works when stylized that way, but when you start making "realistic anime" it gets kind of uncomfortable. Although I did like how it opened up with an 8-bit tribute.
Where the hell am I on that list!?!? Name myself after a He-Man character and be the only one forgotten in a casting call...
Somebody named their daughter Harley Quinn for real? Worst parents evar.In Kevin Smith’s defense, “Harley Quinn” at least sounds like a real name. If you said the name to someone who didn’t know the character, they may not think twice about it. There are certainly worse celebrity kid’s names in my humble opinion. Smith’s friend and frequent collaborator, Jason Lee, named his son “Pilot Inspektor”. Nicolas Cage named his son “Kal-El”. Penn Jillette named his daughter “Moxie CrimeFighter”. I guess they’re all hoping they’re so famous that no one will mess with their kids.

Yes, watch that till the end, and pay attention because there's lots of background stuff that may be called back or relevant later in the season.

I am not ok with this is only about 3.5hrs worth of content. you can burn through it on a Saturday afternoon.
I enjoyed it. The main reason I asked, is because I wanted to talk about it, but not spoil it for those that haven't seen it yet.
there's a few moments where beyond questionable choices/actions are made to move the plot forward in the later episodes, but ultimately I enjoyed it and would tune in for a Season 2 whenever that happens.
One of my favorite shows, Community, was added to U.S. Netflix today. It's one of the best written TV comedies ever, and it's perfect for binge watching with lots of layered jokes and callbacks.

two top tier comedies
anyway, can someone tell me why I still have a Netflix DVD subscription, and there are 2 DVD's on my tv stand "collecting dust" for who knows how long.
Good thing this crisis got me to shuffle some papers around otherwise I wouldn't have seen them there. I'm about to return them and cancel that subscription. What was I thinking? LOL

new anime on Netflix, animal class society.
Carnivores and Herbivores, inter-species relationships. It gets into some deep subject matter.
It was actually pretty interesting.

Checked this show out over the past week. Not quite sure what to think, despite finishing the first season. It was interesting at times, but ended up being just a bit too furry for my tastes with the cross-species love story aspects? Apologies if that sounds all judgy; it isn't intended to be.
I think that I enjoyed the uber-geeky and more by-the-numbers Hi Score Girl second season more for my anime coming of age/love story.
Watching the new unsolved mysteries on Netflix makes me sad. Especially the case about the black boy who was tortured and hunted by the local racists. Really pissed at the cops on that one.
Just dropping this here to watch laterI watched this the other night to wrap up 2020 and it is very good at telling what happened this year while also taking all the personaities of 2020 and making light of them. I like the way they did it.

Unfortunately, I just watched the slow-moving, pointless dumpster fire that was Season 3, so they have a lot of ground to make up after the fantastic Season 2.That's fair though I'm not as hard on it. Season 3 was all escalation and setting the board for what will hopefully be a Season 4 closer to Season 2's highs. Ellis straight up didn't know what to do with Alucard, and there wasn't enough material as written for the Hector/Lenore thread to last an entire season. Season 3 was very uneven except it didn't have to be. It needed a little reprioritization. Take out Alucard's blatant stalling and maybe make Hector less of a simp-cuck. Give him a little agency, have him do something. Hector's thread was too slow of a burn. There were other, better ways to get him to be Lenore's slave than that ridiculous, unearned sex scene. For example, at some point mid-season Hector should have escaped, been found by Lenore then willingly returned with her. More manipulation to make him think he's making these choices on his own.
I don't know why they decided to only kinda, sorta adapt Curse of Darkness, a Castlevania game so few people played that Konami set fire to the entire franchise after it and rebooted it all with Lords of Shadow. I further don't know why they decided to kinda, sorta adapt it and then not really DO anything with it.I'm glad Ellis cherrypicked parts of Curse of Darkness. He turned one of the coolest sounding Castlevania-anything (the Infinite Corridor) from a generic late-stage to a significant plot device. How much do you remember about Curse of Darkness? Game Hector was boring as hell, and the less said about what an insufferable edge-lord Game Isaac was the better along with his sister who inexplicably looked exactly like Game Hector's dead girlfriend or something. The plot was paint-by-numbers Castelvania.
Season 2 was my favorite. Season 3 was good but weird. The animation in the trailer is simply *chef’s kiss*
That’s standard for shows. Producers will limit budgets of mid-season episodes if they need to reallocate that money for the finale. Those are typically bottle episodes like “Fly” in Breaking Bad. They needed more money to pull off blowing up half of Gus Fring’s face. Castlevania has been popular enough for Netflix to renew past their normal two or three seasons so maybe later seasons will have more consistent animation quality throughout.
As a matter of fact, why don't we do a list of good Netflix Originals, that were cut short and should've continued. I've already gone first.
Mine ends in a little less than a month....
I plan on looking into the D+ Hulu adless bundle, or the triple package if my computer continues to skip the ads on Hulu, which it was doing just fine, until this weekend. I can also get ESPN+ in a bundle for cheaper than D+ and Hulu adless bundled, then I might go that route.
I 'm guessing it has something to do with a Chrome update, but i"ve had adless Hulu for years without paying for no ads. Now when I encounter an ad... everything just stops. Not sure how to get past it.
But I believe there was a D+ thread as well.
on the other hand, Netflix is supposed to be launching a Ad Based tier for $6.99mo or something like that. so maybe that will also become an option.
I didn't want to start a new thread for this.
My Disney+ subscription expires next month. I'm strongly considering the Disney+ and Hulu without ads bundle. I don't need so many streaming services so I may also cancel my recurring Netflix subscription and subscribe only when there's something I really want to watch.
Has anyone else done this or something similar? How is it working out for you?

I opted to sign up for the Disney Trio Bundle because Hulu seems more up my alley. No live TV; I don't think I'd use it enough.
There are a few Netflix things I want to check out eventually such as the previously mentioned Glass Onion. I also want to finish up Stranger Things when that returns as well as Castlevania. I can probably just sign up for a month here or there.
Y'all may have read my ramblings on The Dragon Prince (https://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=29156.msg981869#msg981869). I watched one episode of Season 4 to see if they learned anything, and nope, officially done with this show. These mofos continue whiffing even the simplest expectations for good writing. There are so many options if y'all won't step up your game. I have Hulu now, motherfucker. I have access to Futurama again. Paramount announced THREE Avatar: The Last Airbender movies. I'm not spending any more time of this show when there are better alternatives.
- Characters are needlessly and overly vague about their intentions.
- Characters talk about things they did that sound way more interesting than the conversation they're having about those things.
- Nothing happened in an entire episode of a nine episode season. Why are y'all still stalling so much? So much time is spent setting up jokes that don't land instead of showing characters actually doing things.
I assume Netflix will run up such a debt that they'll have to file for bankruptcy and be bought by Apple or something. They produce too many shows.
Netflix Inc. plans to open new destinations where fans can immerse themselves in the worlds of their favorite TV shows, shop for clothing, eat themed food and maybe even try a Squid Game obstacle course.
Dubbed Netflix House, the venues will feature a mix of retail, dining and live experiences, according to Josh Simon, the company's vice president of consumer products. The streaming TV pioneer plans to open the first two in the US in 2025 and then expand the concept around the world.
For years, media companies have used theme-park rides, costumes, toys and other consumer products to promote their characters and generate additional cash. This business is new to Netflix, whose marketing efforts have sometimes been criticized as inadequate by film and TV producers. Management views Netflix House more as a way to promote its titles than as a meaningful source of revenue, at least for now.
"We've seen how much fans love to immerse themselves in the world of our movies and TV shows, and we've been thinking a lot about how we take that to the next level," Simon said in an interview.
Netflix House will have rotating installations, including ticketed shows inspired by popular series and restaurants featuring food from unscripted shows. The food and drinks will range from fast casual – think burgers and fries – to more high-end dining, desserts and spirits.
