I, too, misread pens the first time I saw that sentence.

Hey, guys, sorry to rain on your happy day, but what are the chances Nibris even has a dev kit? Yeah. That's correct. Nada.

TalkBack / RE: Opera Browser Confirmed for Nintendo DS
« on: February 15, 2006, 04:41:57 AM »
If this doesn't have Flash or Javascript support, I'll shoot somebody (not that I'd buy it anyway). I've used browsers on both a PocketPC and a BlackBerry, and the thing that is most annoying about them is the complete lack of Flash or Java support.

And I'm still sorta mad that it's not available as a firmware upgrade, although it's understandable considering that the x86-Win32 version of Opera is around 9MB. I doubt it'll sell well.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:The Power of 2X to 3X...
« on: January 23, 2006, 09:39:19 AM »
2x the power doesn't mean you simply multiply the numbers by two. There are all sorts of things you have to bring into consideration - Clock speed and memory are not the only things. This especially applies to custom hardware such as that which is used in consoles. You could have a graphics card with a 1GHz/1.5GHz core/memory clock speed, but that'd be useless if it only had 2 pipelines.

The 2x-3x comment didn't mean hardware, but rather a guesstimation of performance. And that's all it is - a guesstimation. I wonder how much Perry Kaplin (or whoever it was who said 2x-3x) knows about hardware? Because we all know that they teach you about ALUs in business school...

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Gamecube clicking noise
« on: January 01, 2006, 10:19:31 AM »
The clicking is actually jsut the little laser inside moving from one extreme to the other. Don't worry, it's on all GCNs (At least, all that I've seen.)

My, my.... Impressive. I just bought Symphonia the other day, and I've fallen in love. I can't wait to have this guy in my hands. (Well, this and Tales of Phantasia Advance, that is.)

Yeah, I saw this quite a while ago. I did the same sort of thing with my Sidewinder Freestyle, which also has a gyro inside it. Worked quite well in Perfect Dark (emulated, of course), actually

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Play the Price is Right!
« on: December 09, 2005, 04:03:30 AM »
I'm actually not so sure that it'll be $200. Nintendo has to support its' WFC servers somehow, and we're not paying monthly. How do you expect them to pay for 'em? Easy. Make a profit on all systems sold.

You're all wrong.

It's a rumble pack accessory, duh.

Let's face it: Nintendo has a long history of connectivity features that were never persued. Let's go through a little list, shall we? I'm just writing this down as it comes to my mind. GBA-GCN linking, E-Reader, Gameboy Camera/Gameboy Printer, LAN'd together GCNs, 64DD, GBC infrared, N64 transfer pack, Satellaview, GBA wireless adapter, GBC cell phone adapter, the infamous GCN broadband adapter, etc.

Think WFC will really be pursued by Nintendo? I mean, it has a hell of a better chance than the other things I've listed (E-Reader? Who the hell thought that would sell?!), but the fact that there's only 4 announced games using it isn't really a good sign, IMO. Think it really has a future? MKDS online is cool and all, but the four-player limit is sort of disappointing. I think this bottleneck will become a problem for Nintendo in the future, and may eventually be the WFC's downfall.

Oh, and "Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection?" Dumbest name choice ever. People have started to associate Wi-Fi with everything wireless, be it 802.11*, BlueTooth, or RF. And even then, even if that misconception wasn't there, does "WFC" really roll off the tongue as easily as "Xbox Live?" Nintendo needs a catchphrase. I mean, my mother's stopped calling my GCN a Nintendo and started calling it an Xbox.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Rare working on 2 DS games
« on: November 30, 2005, 04:40:24 AM »
Well, you're entitled to your (darkheart, not the guy above me) own opinion. Banjo-Kazooie is definitely a lot like Super Mario 64. Both have dumb storylines, non-linear levels, and similar gameplay elements. But that's the reason I loved Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie: It was more Super Mario 64 to tide me over until the next one. But Banjo-Kazooie is also an evolution of the 3D platformer. It added in new skills that you learn along the way, much like Metroid or Castlevania. Plus, Mumbo could always transform you into other animals. (Now that I think about it, Kameo is modeled around this element of BK.) Gameplay always felt fresh, new, different. So, yeah, I'd kill for a portable Banjo-Kazooie, if it was good.

Oh, and Jet Force Gemini on DS would be godly. Most underrated game ever.

PS: That's not how tags work. It'd be more like <sarcasm> </sarcasm>. Just FYI.

I for one still have hope for Banjo-Kazooie. It's my favorite platformer of all time, quite frankly.

Nintendo Gaming / So how does the controller work, anyway?
« on: November 27, 2005, 10:39:40 AM »
As far as I know, the gyro works very much like an analog stick, with a central object and two potentiometers. But has there been any word on how the console detects the controller's location in 3D space? I've been racking my brain about this since it was unveiled, and I can't think of a (cheap) way for it to be done, excluding the route Microsoft took with the Xwand project.

General Gaming / RE: Am I the only one disappointed with the XBox 360?
« on: November 22, 2005, 05:36:55 AM »
Frankly, I have to admit that X360 is tempting to me, somebody who has never owned a console or handheld that wasn't made by Nintendo. The hardware inside it is a true feat (the secondary core in the video card for AA/AF is pure genius.) The software, which is what I found lacking on the original Xbox, has a strong line-up this time around. I am a Rare junkie, and I'm finding it harder and harder to resist buying Perfect Dark Zero. And Banjo-Kazooie, personally one of the best platformers of all time, will probably see a sequel on X360 sooner or later.

And meanwhile, what does Nintendo have planned for its consoles? Twilight Princess and the promise of Metroid Prime 3 and SSB Revolution. Nintendo had better reveal some information about Revolution's games, and fast, or they're going to go under.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: 3rd Party Support Already Starting to Look Up

If I remember correctly, yes, the main controller unit has rumble. As for the analog attachment, I'm not sure, but judging by its' size I doubt it.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Making my DS feel all brand new?
« on: November 22, 2005, 03:12:24 AM »
Yep, that isj ust for the top screen. But I'm nearly positive that most, if not all touch-screens have some sort of plastic or another as an overlay. Anyway, I tihnk I have the grainier, sensitive one - I got it about a week after the US launch.

Nintendo Gaming / Making my DS feel all brand new?
« on: November 21, 2005, 03:14:27 PM »
Okay, long story short, I brought my DS to camp and let a lot of people borrow it (and converted a few people to DSism). But now, my housing is sorta scratched, as is my touch screen. So, I'd like to make my DS feel brand new again. I'm going to order a 4.5mm Gamebit screwdriver off of Lik-Sang to open up the casing, but I don't know what to do from there on. Does anybody know where I can get a replacement plastic/glass overlay for the touchscreen? Also, as for the housing, I'm thinking of just taking the internals out, putting tape over the ports and holes and things, and just spraypainting it. Anybody know what type of paint would cling best to the plastic, and that doesn't chip?
