I'd go for a Mario All-Stars style visual update, it might be okay using Phantom Owlglass' engine, but but 2D > 3D! Best Zelda game and one of the best games Nintendo's ever made, period. Don't mess with periods!

This is also my favorite game ever made.  I've played it so many times, and the first time I beat it. . . nothing rivals that, in anything I've ever played.  I could go on forever about it, but now is not the time.  By far my favorite game.  A Link to the Past hardly compares.

I'm all for remakes of great games.  There aren't enough real remakes as things stand.

However, I'd demand the remake to offer at least four-player story mode capabilities, whatever is done with it.  That's a must.

In fact, if more games could be remade with multiplayer story modes, the gaming world would be much better.  Where's our two-player co-op Super Mario World?

In all respects, it's probably more likely than a 2D remake...That is, extremely unlikely... =(

(But yes, I'd be all over a Link's Awakening-eseque 3D game with Wind Waker toon-shading...ALL OVER IT...)

For that purpose: Explain the elements that made LA great that are missing in other games so we know what you want to keep.

The Oracle Games were pretty good... but I dunno - they were really not Link's Awakening.  I guess nothing ever will be though, eh?

I loved those Oracle games, those  were Capcom's first weren't they?

I'll be glad to help.  I haven't played Oracle yet but I enjoyed Link Awakening.  Even though I wouldn't want a remake that fully followed it because I didn't like the artificial limiting of where you could go.  If memory serves me correct.

"Artificial limiting"?  The only instance of that is at the very beginning of the game where you are led to your sword...

Link's Awakening was the first Zelda game I ever played so perhaps this is nostolgic bias, but I too think it is the best Zelda game and the best portable game ever. Still, I love the story (the writers of Lost get all their ideas from Link's Awakening) and the way the story ends, the music is the finest collection of beeps and bloops to ever emanate from the original GameBoy's speakers, I love the dungeons, and most importantly, I feel it strikes the most harmonious balance of dungeons and quests outside the dungeons that no other Zelda game does. It also did something that few video games do, it got me to care about the characters. Pretty freaking impressive for a black and white, 8-bit portable game.

Remaking Link's Awakening would be like remaking Super Metroid (completely unnecessary) but if they re-released it, I'd be all over it.

I'd be the first to admit that LA's story is amazing, and the most philosophical of all the Zeldas. But gameplay-wise, it can't hold a candle to A Link to the Past.

Link's Awakening is a great distraction, but aLttP trounces it overall.

I like Link's Awakening.  Actually I perfer the DX version.  It did several things great in the Zelda universe, and added alot to the formula.

I loved greater focus on 2D side scrolling elements in each of the dungeons.
The Power Up system was enjoyable and made just walking around the main map more enjoyable.

But...the game did some things that was actually quite annoying.

Recycling bosses from Link to the Past is the biggest complaint.

I would say, that so far it is the best portable Zelda released (in the States) but I would not place it as the best Zelda game created...or would I place it as the best game ever created.

Though, I think a remake is definitely needed.  Take the art direction of the new Phantom Hourglass, and give it new bosses...personally I want a real remake of the original Zelda before this, and a remake of Zelda 2 with little more focus on sword play and giving us more weapons as well.

LA is the second hardest Zelda game ever made.
For that reason it earns my respect.

I loved the fact by the time you reached the 7/8th dungeon you knew this story would not end happily.

I doubt we would see a remake as hard as the original.
Nintendo not the same company as it use to be.

Galford, I dunno I actually beat Link's Awakening.  I would say that the difficulty levels would be closer to:

Legend of Zelda 2: The adventures of Link
The Legend of Zelda
Legnd of Zelda: Link's Awakening

LoZ2 was WAY harder than LA that's for sure.

Though I think it was a little harder than the original LoZ.

I think I have a 0% chance of spotting an authentic DX cart (colors are cool) of this game.

I'll probably see a picture of a full sized wall map by UncleBob before I do.

Shecky - eBay should be easy, if you follow the basic tips for not buying bootlegs.  Keeping in mind that most bootleggers aren't bothering with older GB/GBC games at this point.

Funny thing is, after seeing a co-worker's gift to her mother (and this was like just a couple weeks ago), a large collage of photos printed out and framed, I was thinking of looking into that same printing place and getting them to print out the Light World from A Link To The Past (VGMaps.com's first map EVER) and framing that.
