If Smash Wii U's attach rate in Japan is anywhere NEAR 25% - hell, if the shipment is even near that - I'll eat my damn hat.

There's no way that SmUsh is going to outsell the 3DS version, especially in Japan.

So the Wii U crosses 2 million. I wonder if it'll surpass the GameCube's total for Japan which I think is 4 million-something.

If Monster Hunter 4 was Wii U exclusive it would have passed that I am sure.

Here's hoping that 5 will be on a Nintendo console. (Nintendo next gen launch title?)

Well Japanese's smash numbers are in: 230K opening week, less than SMB Melee and Brawl's by a good chunk.  Hardware wise a slight boost but nothing of note (24k for the week).

So having an 3DS version really did hurt the WII U Japanese sales in IMO, Nintendo should have made exclusive fighters for each platform because it doesn't look like people are double-dipping.

Smash should have some nice looking legs but it seems as if the 3DS sales really took a chunk outta SmUsh. I forgot that Smash 3DS sold damn million in a week. Console number are solid. 3X over two weeks ago and 2x as last week. Should hold over dec ending the month in the 110k range.

EDIT: Smash U numbers are for only 1 day, as it was released on DEC 6th in Japan.

Someone said, though, that that equates to 10% of the console's install base, which is nothing to sneeze at. It's not doing poorly because of the 3DS version, the 3DS version exists because with the state of the home console market in Japan the Wii U version was always going to be like this.

Super Smash Bros for Wii U smashes to the top with two days of sales. Not as smashing as some would like. New releases are spread through out the top 20 with notable bummers being Guilty Gear Xrd Sign and Samurai Warriors Chronicles 3rd. Or if you dislike Warriors games, perhaps that's just deserts.

For the United States.

Pokemon ORAS at 1.5 million (digital and physical) since Nov. 21.
Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS now at 1.5 million (digital and physical).

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U at 710k (digital and physical, I presume) since Nov. 21.
amiibo figures have sold ~710k with Link, Mario, and Pikachu (in that order) being the best selling.

EDIT: Wii U hardware sales you ask? Nintendo of America will only say that there was an increase of 10% from 2013. Software sales have increased 90% compared to last year, though.

Xbone 1.2m
PS4 800k
Wii U 245k

And I suspect that this month will be the only month the Xbone sells more than the PS4 for a very long time (PS4 will probably get a nice sales boost from the PlayStation Experience), given that the the Xbone's next big exclusive comes out in...Fall 2015. Meanwhile, the PS4 has a killer Spring 2015 lined up, so it'll be interesting to see how this looks going forward.

My usual mockery of the Wii U's abysmal sales numbers aside, I'm a little surprised Smash didn't give it more of a bump. It probably didn't help that Nintendo had no worthwhile bundles this year.

The WII U numbers are a joke, Nintendo should FIRE it's marketing team because it really doesn't understand the Western Market at all.  MS on the other hand seems to "correct" it's mistakes, it drop the Kinect, lowered the price and now it's back in the game while Nintendo went ahead and bundled two OLD games instead of newer ones.

Sony had a huge comeback last gen with the PS3 but I can't see that happening with Nintendo's WII U with retail and 3rd party support.

To be honest I can't see 2015 being a great year for sales for the WII U neither, sure Zelda an known AAA title but that's about it for "system sellers".

I still think dropping the Kinect was a Short Term Gain at the expense of Long Term Profits.  Still think they be better off keeping the Kinect and taking the loss on the the Price cut with it.  It's the only thing that really makes for a unique only on XBOne Experience.

I don't think Nintendo cares about making a huge comeback this generation (not saying it shouldn't, and that's a completely different discussion altogether). It seems to be on a generational schedule of addressing mistakes outside of things like price cuts. For example, Gamecube had next to no online, Wii had one. It sucked and Wii U's is leagues better though still not great. I think Nintendo is content walking the path of least resistence. Changing that **** mid-generation is hard and costly. It's just trying to get through this generation so it can start over. That may not be the best way, but at this point, Nintendo knows it can get away with doing so.

Microsoft was basically giving away Xbones for Black Friday (and the entire month, really). Very impressive sales though, for both consoles (Xbone/PS4). That 400k overage is nice, but they are still millions behind PS4 worldwide (~7 million, or nearly 50%) and a million behind in the US. If they can keep it up for a few months they'll be even here at least. Wii U had a decent month as a Wii U month, but comparatively did pathetically.
