I still wanna know if they fixed the control sick issue. Would be pissed of I had to send in my $200 console because my stick was drifting.

Other people are experiencing this too? Thought I was the only one...

Certainly adds a level of challenge to some games to have your character randomly walk off a ledge.

I think it will get a Spidey-bump.

That's actually built into it performing similar to Infinity War from here on out, as Spider-man is 48 days away: a comparable distance that Ant-man and the Wasp was to Infinity War. That said, Spider-man is more tied into Endgame, so it might have a better effect.

3
He could have just waited until Endgame passes Avatar to do one, unless this was his way of passively stating it would not pass Avatar.

It's going to be very tight right now if it does overpass it.

Endgame went from being well ahead of Infinity War in terms of what it was making on a daily basis to more or less being equal. Assuming it doesn't keep slipping, and makes the same amount as Infinity War from now until it's out of theaters in the US, that means it's got $126 million left to snag in the US. The difference between it and Avatar is $285 million worldwide, so the rest of the world has to push it by $159 million more.

If I had to guess, it will make it, but it's anything but assured.

There is a tradition of making movie posters for this sort of thing.

That there is

James Cameron passes the torch:

As seen on Twitter

Interesting given he didn't need to, since Titanic is second to Avatar.

Raises the question if he will do something similar if Avatar is crossed in the worldwide box office. Right now there is a $484 million difference between the two. Assuming it makes the same amount of money in the US through the rest of its run that Infinity War made (unlikely, it will probably make more as it has never dipped below Infinity War in a daily comparison) that would be $200 million alone there. Can the rest of the world give it the $285 it needs to beat it? I'll say yes, although not savvy with movies that have opened as wide as this did and what a normal drop might be (usually releases are more staggered worldwide).

The last season of Jessica Jones if done correctly could make things all fit together.

I'd be shocked if the "Defenders verse" wasn't aborted from continuity in time. It doesn't really have much connection to the greater MCU, and I doubt they want properties like Daredevil to go unused forever.

In fact, selfishly, I wouldn't mind if everything that was done TV wise without the guidance of Feige was tossed into its own continuity and Feige could continue to tap into those as needed for the movies and now the D+ shows he is doing. Not that I don't enjoy stuff like Runaways, but it always felt a notable drop down in quality versus the larger MCU.

The only one I feel should be kept is Agent Carter, due to the Endgame reference.

If I remember correctly, Rockstar has a feud with Nintendo going back to the GameCube/GBA days, so it doesn't surprise me that they aren't porting one of their own games to the Switch.

Any more details on this? A search didn't turn up anything on a feud between them.

Looking past that era, we did get Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars on the DS... but that was a decade ago.

We got none of that. What we got was Thanos rambling and a screen shot from a completely untrustworthy narrator.

If we are saying Thanos was untrustworthy when he was talking about Titan, then we don't have much to go by in terms of character. In my mind, much of his motivation comes from that scene. I personally enjoy the character, and thought it was well handled.

From his little speech I was able to gather that his planet was overpopulated, that he offered an, again, crazy solution that actually probably would have helped... and ultimately the harsher reality came to pass. He probably feels vindicated based on Titan, but has lost his ability to approach this rationally. The reason being his experience dealing with critics when he actually had a plan that was more based on the problem at hand and likely dealing with the traumatic, emotional experience of seeing people he knew pass away under probably horrible circumstances (if the problem was lack of resources, I imagine a lot of infighting). I felt this trauma is often overlooked, although expressed in a single line:

Thanos: They called me a madman. And what I predicted came to pass.

Doctor Strange: [sarcastically] Congratulations. You're a prophet.

Thanos: I'm a survivor.

9
I think people are overlooking the emotional aspect to Thanos, being that he lost his home world. In that instance he had a plan, a fairly crazy plan to kill half the population... but one that oddly would have saved lives in that instance versus the alternative. As a result, people he would have been personally familiar with died as he saw his plan overlooked... I can only imagine what it would be like living through a world that is starving and the apocalypse-like scenario that transpired that caused that world to die.

That experience made Thanos obsessive and misguided, to the point he sees himself the savior by transplanting his idea on a universe scale. Similarly, he has become so obsessed he is able to shut out serious critiques to his plan, likely bore from feeling it was people opposed to his original plan on Titan that were eventually the problem that led to the planet dying.

Woo hoo, and Smash Bros cracks 3 million in Japan.

...now time to count down until Mario Odyssey hits 2 million.

11
Have they announced a price point for this? If it's not full retail price I could see myself getting it as something fun to play from time to time.

12
...and the strategy board along with a ton of others are gone for a much more streamlined look. Kudos to whoever on the staff did this.

7,624 copies to go until Smash Bros hits 3 million... so close

Also, congrats to Splatoon 2 for being the first Switch game in Japan to hit 3 million... although how did it jump up so much? Last week it was 29,277 copies away from it.

25,847 copies to go until Smash is at 3 million...

29,277 copies for Splatoon 2 too. Both are pretty close, although Smash is going to hit it in the next couple weeks while it will take Splatoon a bit more time.

Isn't that what the Sega CD or N64 Expansion Pak essentially were?  The difference there is that existing users could upgrade their existing hardware.

The Sega CD when it launched cost $299, versus the Genesis that cost $189 at launch.

You could see it as an upgrade, but it cost more than the system it was "upgrading". I'd argue that was overall much worse than what's likely to be done here. At least this approach is friendly to new consumers, as it's not like they would have to buy a Switch and a "Switch Pro" to use the latter.

The N64 Expansion Pack works much better in this example, and I thought was handled very well by Nintendo... but times have changed.

1. For the amount of traffic this forum seems to get, there's way too many subforums. Now when new people (like me) check it out they see a whole bunch of dead subforums, making the whole place seem empty.
Why is there a strategy one, that fits in with gaming, why is there a hardware one, that could merge with consoles. And even there I would merge all three (handheld, consoles and general) as well.

Kind of amazed this was brought up back in 2016... and that was the last time the strategy board was posted in too. I concur that the strategy board really needs to go, and in general any efforts to consolidate would help. Not just make the boards feel more active, but would probably get new posts in front of more eyeballs as well.

"It made sense to buy a separate console and handheld because they had different purposes.  Since the Switch works as both from a purpose-based perspective you only need to buy it alone."

Yep, and that's been a big selling point for me. I'm getting close, in fact, to have already purchased more Switch games than both the Wii U and 3DS combined... part of that is due to apathy for the 3DS, though. I love the freedom the Switch offers.

On note of the numbers.... I just want them to keep going until Smash Bros crosses 3 million in Japan.

TalkBack / Re: Why I Love Yoshi's Story - Game Design Rant
« on: March 18, 2019, 01:46:44 PM »
I was so excited for Yoshi's Story before release. The graphics looked great, and I loved Yoshi's Island. Essentially I was hungry for a sequel similar to Donkey Kong Country 2: something that was more of the same but improved upon.

However, Yoshi's Story was a big deviation. It didn't feel similar at all to Yoshi's Island. The lack of challenge was, yes, a bummer... but Yoshi's Island was a HUGE game. Yoshi's Story was not. This was back in middle school, when I could devote more time to games, but recall beating it in a day or two. I ended up going back to get nothing but melons... not because the game captivated me, but at that stage I was just trying to get my money's worth.

It's not a bad game, but didn't feel worth the price tag, as N64 games were not cheap.

Nintendo still keeps filing trademark extensions for ED.

Well it was represented not that long ago with a Spirit in Smash Bros... could be just Nintendo keeping their options open.

What's going to be the first Switch game to crack 3 million in Japan?

Both Smash Bros and Splatoon 2 are ever green enough to eventually do it... or will it just be the next mainline Pokemon game?

...what is Mystic World?

Did a Google search and just coming up with hacks for Mario Bros with this.

I really enjoyed the first Marvel Ultimate Alliance on the Wii back in the day. Could easily see myself getting this if the multiplayer is good.

It looks like Pirahna Plant is not one of the five paid DLC characters in the pass. It also seems to be unclear if it can be purchased later.

Mewtwo was "free" to those who got the Wii U and 3DS versions of Smash Bros last generation, but was later sold as DLC. I'm gonna guess that the Pirahna Plant works the same way, and it's free if you pre-order but can be purchased later.

Is there any indication that "World of Light” will be co-op? My gf is not competitive, and, oddly, subspace emissary is her fondest memory of the Smash series for the co-op nature.

Kind of hoping that this new mode will be co-op, although haven't seen any mention of it.

As for the remaining 5 DLC characters, the series is pretty stacked as is. Most of the characters I wanted are in now, which is amazing to say. They have done a great job filling the roster. That said, it would be nice if we did see one character to represent Advance Wars. Feels like the last hole. Granted, the series hasn't been around since the DS days, but was pretty popular at one time.

...my question is how easy would it be to migrate save data and other stuff for your current Switch to the new one, assuming it's compelling enough to merit an upgrade.

As someone who hasn't played around with the storage aspect much, could you move everything on the Switch to a large enough micro-SD?
