Title: PGC Announces Metroid Mismatch Contest
Post by: Karl Castaneda #2 on November 10, 2005, 01:15:01 PM
Compete for a chance to win a Nintendo DS and a copy of Metroid Prime Pinball. UPDATE: The contest has now ended

Metroid Prime Pinball saw Samus trying out something that isn't exactly on the to-do list of an interstellar bounty hunter. Even so, the game yielded terrific results, as you can tell from our review. Now it's your turn!

Our latest and greatest contest asks that you send in artwork of Samus performing acts completely out of sync with her usual persona - driving to work, paying taxes, anything! The contest officially starts now and will run until November 18th, 2005. The best three entries will be chosen by our staff and displayed on PGC. Also, thanks to Nintendo of America, the three winners will each win a Nintendo DS system and a copy of Metroid Prime Pinball. Just make sure you abide by the following rules:

  • No nudity or offensive images.
  • Must be your own, original artwork.
  • Limited to one entry per person.
  • Must not exceed 600 pixels in width.

A big thanks again to Nintendo of America for donating these fabulous prizes. Now get drawing and send in those entries!.

Note: Winners will be decided by members of the Planet GameCube staff, whose decisions are final.  Employees of Nintendo of America and members of the Planet GameCube staff are not eligible to win.  Entrants who violate the above rules may be disqualified. Open to readers worldwide.

So I guess driving to work and paying taxes are going to be to obvious to use now....I am actually going to enter this one. Not just create an entry and neglect to enter it...

So...what about those of us who cannot draw worth a lick?

Would a particularly image-laden piece of prose be allowed?

The writers got a chance with the Dream Game Revolution Contest. Now it's time for the artists to get a shot. It's only fair.

I'm no artist, but I think if I were to come up with something I could get the message across.  It's all about the content; the best idea's gonna win.  As long as it promotes some sense of competency I would assume it'll be fine.

Well, that's MY interpretation of it >_>

Ah...yes...I suppose you and your FILTHY logic are correct.

I will just submit a painstakingly creative stick figure creation.  Just you wait!
Title: RE:PGC Announces Metroid Mismatch Contest
Post by: JonLeung on November 10, 2005, 02:04:19 PM
What's so magical about November 18th?  The GameCube launched that day, and Metroid Prime also came out that same day a year later.  And now this?

Anyway, it sounds neat, but the thing about Samus is that she's so darn hard to draw, what with all the ridges in her armor and all, even if you were trying to keep it simple.  Well, they're likely to only pick the best artwork anyway, so maybe it's not really an issue...

this is another awesome "the whole world can participate" type of contest, yet I suck at drawing except for creatures Ive created myself, and as JonLeung said, Samus is quite a challenge, Ill think about an idea though, and maybe Ill submit something.

We try really hard to make sure that all of PGC's contests are open to our readers worldwide.  In this case, NOA offered to ship the prizes directly, but they can only ship to the U.S. and Canada.  So I asked them to send the prizes to me, and then I'll ship them anywhere in the world they may need to go.

Does it count if I make a 4 panel comic, or does it just have to be one huge shot?

Comics are art. As long as it doesn't violate the dimensions rule, you're golden.

Post by: Karl Castaneda #2 on November 10, 2005, 05:21:10 PM
All that really matters is the picture. If you've got a title, I guess that's fine to add as well.

600 pixels wide but how high? or did you mean no bigger than 600x600?
Title: RE: PGC Announces Metroid Mismatch Contest
Post by: Karl Castaneda #2 on November 10, 2005, 05:37:14 PM
Height is not an issue. The width rule was only made as to not extend the page.

    Picture SENT!

I probably could have spent some more time on it seeing as there is still a whole week til it's over, but I couldn't be bothered. To all who see, in the picture the person who is not Samus is me. tehe.

I have a brilliantly stupid idea.
Not sure quite how to execute it, though.  Because it could, potentially, contain partial nudity, and I really can't think of it getting the point across any other way.

More entries, please. I have FOUR so far. Seriously, guys, how would you feel if you were that one guy who, out of all of the people who entered, didn't get a free DS. Pretty crappy, right? Ok, then, so make sure that one guy isn't alone in his suffering and send in more pictures.

Give me time, I am writing a comic here lol!  Plus I am out of my own world right now, I may be an art major in college, but I work with traditional mediums so workin on the pc aint that familiar.  Plus I am totally freehanding this stuff with a mouse as well! I suppose I could give you a taste of what I am doing................

Nah I am not comfortable with its current state but it will be in by the date!

Deguello thinks my idea is a little too risque.
I'm going for it anyway.  Unless I can think of a better idea that's less risky.
    Wish me luck.

Question... If I cut & paste parts of work that isn't mine (Say, Samus' head from official art and such) does that disqualify me?

EDIT:All well, I entered anyway.  I doubt I'd win with it, but it was worth a laugh.

It'll go the same way as the last time - we'll post the winners and if everyone else wants to share theirs, then they can feel free to. As for when the winners will be announced, it shouldn't take longer than a week. After all, I'm just looking at a bunch of pictures, not reading multiple-page game concepts.

Arbok: Same thought here. That or Metroid Guitar Hero with Samus being puzzled how to play a guitar without fingers on your right hand . Or Metroid Bowling (lack of fingers always reminds me of Purple Tentacle's bowling ball...).

I submitted a pic.  I have no idea how it stacks up to the competition but I thought it turned out nicely, considering that it was my first time to really use my graphics tablet and a paint program (I'm a pencil and paper kind of guy).

Good luck everyone, I will post mine if we are allowed in this thread once the official deadline is passed.

P.S.  If the admins of the contest could let me know if mine was received, I'd appreciate it.  E-mail would have been zeiganstrell@gmail.com

I've gotta thank you for this contest!  I have been wanting to draw Samus for awhile, but I haven't felt enough desire to actually do so.  Thankfully the chance at winning a DS was enough to entice me to take a stab at it.  I only had a night in which to do my entry, and it isn't as awesome as I would have wanted, but it certainly was fun to work on.

I wish all those who entered good luck.  I look forward to seeing everyone's entries
