General Chat / Re: What is Maxi up to?
« on: July 14, 2009, 04:11:00 PM »
I don't rape people so you should be good there. Not one of the things on my 'to-do' list either. I'm also a borderline sworn celibate for personal reasons so not like I'd try anything.

Hey, Maxi, are you going to come up and visit some time to look around and check areas out before you actually move? Let me know and I could be your tour guide. Not only do I have a good sense of directions, I randomly drive all over the area for fun and exploration's sake and have delivered pizzas in several cities in the area.

@ShyGuy
Do you live near Spokane? I have relatives there. Maybe next time I visit we could meet up to play Mario Kart or something.

Damn i missed a chance to play with you guys!
You should check this thread more often! Especially on weekends. That was the third Sunday in a row that we got together.

You can keep the money, that is fine.
Are you sure about that? Because it was $78,000, which isn't exactly chump change.

Hey! My manly voice left you girls speechless last night. You couldn't handle it's manlyness ;)
That was one of the most horrifying things I've heard in quite awhile.
Ditto. I'd rather go shake trees than hear that again.

I was free all day Sunday too, just too lazy to turn on my wii. Oh well, it'll happen eventually!

You've been intentionally avoiding me.

You've been intentionally boycotting me. Even going as far as paying someone to steal your copy of AC.

And all this time I thought she was avoiding me. Maybe she hates both of us.

Depending on if my car is fixed or not today I'll be on this evening. If my car is fixed I have Pizza Hut hour to go to but if not I'll probably be on AC. I find it helps keep my mind off of my car/money/job worries a bit better than Conduit.

I'm thinking there are two possibilities.  Bad netcode or constrained servers.  The latter could also explain why Water Warfare works better.  I don't think it's coincidence that online games on Nintendo's service tend to work worse in high traffic times like right after launch.

Water Warfare lags, it just lags differently. No matter how badly the server is loaded it should NEVER lead to a framerate reduction on the client because the rendering should be independent of the game simulation. Onslaught DID have framerate reducing lag when I played a match shortly after the US launch but the next match ran fine. Don't Wii games run P2P anyway, i.e. there is no server for anything outside of matchmaking?

If they run P2P (which is how I understood they ran) then anyone with a poor connection can wreck the game. Wasn't that half the reason Brawl's online was so disastrous? MKWii used that correction trick so it was less noticeable.

There is this one Oroweat brand bread I get called 'Health Nut' that doesn't use HFCS. Though I am concerned that breads that don't use it compensate with too much honey or other sweetener. When I was little my mom would make a lot of homemade bread. I'd like to do that again some day so I can get the type of bread I want exactly without having to hunt for an expensive specialty store.

A health article I just read says it pretty well:

Quote
The most important consideration in constructing a healthy diet: Eat whole foods that have had minimal processing.

What is the best diet for human beings?

Vegetarian? Vegan? High-protein? Low-fat? Dairy-Free?

Hold on to your shopping carts: There is no perfect diet for human beings. At least not one that's based on how much protein, fat or carbohydrates you eat.

People have lived and thrived on high-protein, high-fat diets (the Inuit of Greenland); on low-protein, high-carb diets (the indigenous peoples of southern Africa); on diets high in raw milk and cream (the people of the Loetschental Valley in Switzerland); diets high in saturated fat (the Trobriand Islanders) and even on diets in which animal blood is considered a staple (the Massai of Kenya and Tanzania). And folks have thrived on these diets without the ravages of degenerative diseases that are so epidemic in modern American life—heart disease, diabetes, obesity, neurodegenerative diseases, osteoporosis and cancer.

The only thing these diets have in common is that they're all based on whole foods with minimal processing. Nuts, berries, beans, raw milk, grass-fed meat. Whole, real, unprocessed food is almost always healthy, regardless of how many grams of carbs, protein or fat it contains.

I think it is slightly more challenging than typical 3D Zelda fare. I've died several times. Though there is a way to have extra 'lives' similar to the faries in Zelda.

I'll tell you more about it in AC tonight.

TalkBack / Re: My Favorite Nintendo Character Part 2: Rosalina
« on: July 14, 2009, 02:30:37 AM »
She is actually the most intriguing Nintendo character to me ever because of her mysterious backstory. I hope that she makes a return and that her characters is unpacked even more in SMG2, but I also hope that they keep her partially shrouded in mystery.
Lots of Mario characters have mysteries. Forgetting the lessor characters like Waluigi who were just thrown in to broaden the rosters of the spin-offs (c'mon Nintendo, give him a connection with Wario already!), we don't even know what profession Mario and Luigi have. Are they plumbers? They were in the cartoons but I don't recall any game ever stating that. We need to see them fix a leaky sink one of these days...
Miyamoto once stated in an interview that he never really wants Mario to have a profession. People assumed they were plumbers and the cartoon (along with NoA to a degree) decided to reinforce that notion. He wanted to leave those things up to the players imaginations.

Also, I really wanted an improved sequel to the Gamecube Wario World with 2-player co-op including Waluigi. I even wrote a letter to Nintendo asking them to add that. Remember Waluigi was a villain in the Mario DDR game

Lots of Mario characters have a lack of backstory. That isn't mystery. Failing to mention something does not instantly create mystery, and even if it did, it is not an especially interesting mystery. I don't care why Donkey Kong wanted to kidnap Paulina. Certain things are intriguing and Rosalina holds those things.

PS- isn't this the part of the thread where we derail on a different character and Pap tells us that is what his next blog is about? *hinting that I'd like a hint from Pap of what's next* ;)

I still haven't seen a spider or scorpion in my town. Sad

Not even the little spiders from trees?

I'm feeling indecisive right now, but I'm either going to play Conduit or AC once I'm done posting for the night. If I do play AC, anyone up and interested is welcome to come join me. I'll just take care of stuff with the gate open.

Oh good, another JRPG that should have been on the Wii.

I think Nostalgia should have been on the Wii.

I just can't fully adapt to the pixelated 3D in these DS RPGs like FF3&4. Especially with nice cutscenes it is very jarring ro go back to in-game graphics.

What's it about?

Pure awesomeness.

It trumps Zelda in my opinion. I plays like it, but just feels fresher. I also love all of the quirky Japanese elements in it.

You are a dog that is some ancient god reborn and you have to defeat an evil monstrosity in a number of forms. Plus the motion controls are fun, though they can be difficult to use from time to time.

Think if you played Twilight Princess entirely as a wolf and you fought as a wolf that wielded a strange sword thingummy.

Puyallup is nice. Edgewood as well.

There seem to be a good clutch of us here. We should all have an NWR party. I'd even be willing to host once I get a place of my own again (...I miss my old apartment...:( )

Hey in the matchmaking forum I have posted a topic about a 12 player Friend only Wi-Fi night.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=28818.0

I need to make an effort to participate in one of those.

I've yet to actually play a game with you so you should join.

Well, Hudson could make a retail FPS, they've gathered some experience in the area on WiiWare...

Considering that Onslaught was decent at best and Water Warfare ended up an abortion, I wouldn't touch a retail FPS game by Hudson.

What do you mean by 'abortion'?

And if jrlibrarian gets hired, he's already off to a great start with the forum regulars!
If he became staff, he probably wouldn't post in the forum anyway(no different than now), so I'm sure he doesn't really care.

It is kind of odd how people who become staff slow down or stop posting in the forums. Pure chance? Too busy working for Lindy? Secret Staff Code forbids more than 3 posts a week? Who knows!

I fell asleep last night listening to the 'cast and don't know where I nodded off.

I hate when I end up doing that. I usually end up listening to the whole thing again. Its always just as enjoyable the second time though.

Oh, yes. Especially 103. I permanently keep that one on my iPod and listen to it when I need a laugh or run out of other 'casts to listen to when I'm doing graveyard shifts.

12394
I might have to badger people for caps now. I want some RB DLC and have no money for points.

Hey, UncleBob, or anyone else, would you mind just sharing one or two of those codes with me? There are some songs I especially would like to get, but I'm tight on cash.

Poor James, erasing his data that many times. So, where's your FC, James? And just about a week until it comes out in Europe. Then we can have a Conduit podcast smackdown with all four of you guys online.

Conduit is only for smart people, which is why I haven't erased my data once!

Yes you did. You didn't like being Mr. Ford so you erased it, silly ;)

I'm actually dissapointed in the track lists I've seen for this so I'll either wait for a price drop or pass over it entirely.

I'm hoping that RB3 on Wii will include the 'song ripping' feature for older games/discs. I really want the songs on RB1. Also offering them on the store would be nice, but I want Nintendo to grow up and let Harmonix offer discount bundles for complete track packs.

It's for comic effect, I always assumed. The two short plumbers save the "tall gorgeous princess".

Very nice article, Pap. Nice thoughts and I appreciated the theories.

I took the last paragraph to be a nod to the first of the four Mario Universe 'damsel/princesses', Paulina.

She is actually the most intriguing Nintendo character to me ever because of her mysterious backstory. I hope that she makes a return and that her characters is unpacked even more in SMG2, but I also hope that they keep her partially shrouded in mystery.

There is something about the romanticized 'lone ranger/wandering traveler' image she bears.

I'm intrigued. Though I want to see how it looks.

Well, Hudson could make a retail FPS, they've gathered some experience in the area on WiiWare...

That's a good thought. I'm wondering, if they would consider it if Conduit has raging success. I'd like to see a huge retail expansion for Onslaught or something new.
