TalkBack / Re: Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Shadow Wars Review
« on: May 15, 2011, 03:42:14 PM »
Besides the crashing bug, I found a really annoying glitch in one of the last levels of the game, and because of this I had to restart this rather long mission. This glitch happens in the last Deadhand base of the game, in the same level where you have to kill the mega drone. There are key tiles your character has to step on to open a door, once the door opens your character yells "Contact!" and the game generates a fixed number of enemies.  The glitch happens if you save the game with one of your characters still standing on one of those tiles, when you re-load that save that character will yell "Contact!" and a whole new set of enemies are generated.

Other than the glitches, this is one of my favorite 3DS launch titles. I would personally give this game an 8 since it's full of content and is a very satisfying strategy game.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: 3ds scratching itself
« on: May 15, 2011, 03:26:39 PM »
I noticed them but on my system, however they weren't scratches and I wiped them off with ease, same thing with the circle indentation that happens from the circle pad. I really think that Nintendo could of made the spacers a little bigger to help prevent this issue.  I think this issue happens if there is a good amount of pressure applied on the system. For example if the 3DS is inside a pants pocket that have a tight fit. Also, another way that these marking can happen is if the circle pad and the touchscreen border/bezel is greasy from the oil from your skin and it transfers up.

At this point I'm waiting until DSi Shop launches on the 3DS since I want to just transfer my DSiWare games and don't want to end up with an odd amount of points left on my account.

In a way I'd like to see re-makes of Virtual Boy games except with actual color. Though they can omit stuff like NESter's bowling.

With NISA games, you sometimes see retailers list Atlus or Koei as the publisher. NISA historically always used one or the other to distribute their games.

It would be better to get Space Bust-A-Move it's $10 or more dollars less, has local and online multiplayer and works on the 3DS!

It's sad that a B-A-M game that debuted at $19.99 on the DS has a boatload more content than a 3DS edition that costs $29.99.

Wait, DSi got a version of plants versus zombies?

Is it any different from the retail edition? I'd much rather have a D/L version that a retail copy.

Read the Nintendo life review for the differences. But to summarize, the DSiWare version has an exclusive mini-game called Zombie Trap but the Survival and Vs. modes are stripped out. There is some slow down in both the retail and DSiWare versions but most of the slowdown happens if there is a lot going on which predominantly happens in survival mode.

Not trying to be snarky, but since when are Namco Bandai, Tecmo Koei, Square Enix, Sega, and LucasArts small publishers?!?!

While I can see some merit with LucasArts, but most of these companies aren't small companies when compared to companies such as  Xseed, Atlus, or NISA.

I just think that this section has been poorly labeled.

I have a feeling EA had no idea where to take the idea off and just killed it off. I'm not terribly surprised that this got canned, and I didn't find this appealing in the first place.

I have actually enjoyed my time when I wrote for NWR.  Regarding about writing for a Nintendo centric and multiplatform site I didn't see any difference besides reviewing a potentially larger pool of games.

I'm just very surprised that this game got reviewed already since this game comes out in March. I'm not surprised that this game feels similar to Henry Hatsworth, since going by the screenshots the games look very similar.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Who's still buying a 3DS at launch?
« on: February 07, 2011, 07:15:15 AM »
I'm still considering buying a 3DS at launch. The only game on the horizon that I absolutely want is Paper Mario 3DS, and its release date is still TBA... not sure about PilotWings Resort or Nintendogs + cats.

EDIT: I've also been thinking about The Sims 3. My computer is most likely unable to support the game (I've had it for nearly 4 years with no hardware upgrades), so if the reviews for the 3DS version are good I might buy that game.

I wouldn't hold your breath regarding Sims 3 since all the console version had some nasty bugs, glitches and loading times.

TalkBack / Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops Review
« on: February 06, 2011, 12:53:17 PM »
"Overall, Black Ops on the Wii is a great alternative to those that don't own the high end console version"

Don't you mean that it's a great alternative to those that own a high definition console, AKA a PS3 and 360?
Anyways, I picked up the Wii version just because of the pointer controls and my general dislike of dual analog controls. The Wii version in my opinion performs admirably since it's the same game and it looks close to the other versions, while not being extremely gimped over the other versions at the same.

The online mode isn't that glitchy and the friend system is awesome since it's easy to add people on your list when compared to most other online Wii games. The fact that once someone adds you, to their list the other player only has to accept an invite rather than inputting your code makes it a bit easier, plus you can access your allies (friends list) by pressing a single button while online.  While the online play while it has some glitches, and some "lag" due to constant disc streaming; it has rarely given me any major problems.

Also, how is a game challenging even on the easiest setting a bad thing? One common complaint with games nowadays is that games are getting too easy.

It's the first time I have heard someone complaining about the interrogation scenes since that's the point of the story. Mason is always being interrogated in order to forcefully jog his memory about what happened in various critical locations that he was in, and the levels you play are a retelling of what happened in locations.

« on: February 05, 2011, 08:07:36 AM »
One thing I will never understand is how people like and/or are excited about games in The Conduit series. I have no faith in Conduit 2 and I can careless about the supposed 3DS version. I think the only HVS game I enjoyed is Hunter: The Reckoning. Now if HVS can make another game in that series then I would be at least remotely interested.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Is it possible with 3D gaming on a smartphone?
« on: January 30, 2011, 11:01:16 PM »
In Japan there are already Android phones in development with 3D screens so it's happening much sooner than you'd expect it. But it would be much more viable to view 3D movies rather than playing 3D games since a finger on the screen would break the 3D effect.

69
As far as I can gather, Goldeneye on the Nintendo 64 sold decently in Japan, so perhaps that has something to do with Nintendo publishing Activision's version of the game in Japan?

It also has to do with the fact that Activision doesn't publish games in Japan anymore. All of the major Activision games like Call of Duty and James Bond Bloodstone are all published by Square Enix.

what about  an inward facing 3D camera set-up for video chat?
I can't see that happening.

How about added RAM for improved OS background operation.

Technically Nintendo can lower the OS RAM footprint if they ever needed it, but I highly doubt that Nintendo will improve the RAM on later models for OS background operation since that can easily divide the user base in a significant manner.  Anyways Sony improved the RAM from 32MB to 64MB when transitioning to the PSP-2000 and later models but the extra RAM was only used for UMD caching in an attempt reduce load times.

More onboard flash built in.

Since games supposedly are able to be executed straight from an SD card this would be pointless. In addition to that, this generation all of Nintendo's devices all had the same amount of internal storage available.

New and improved screens with wider viewing angles.

With the nature of the 3D technology that Nintendo is using, it's would be hard to achieve a better viewing angle for the 3D effect.

Yeah waiting for a revision is something I can understand, it is sad that it is the norm for about every system out there. It is no longer a slight redesign of the "look" of the system, but better features, most of the time things that should have been included in the first place.

I guess with 3DS I don't see anything that is really glaring besides the battery, and I have no doubt there will be a 3rd party solution to that.

It comes out at the end of March in the US.

Even though Nintendo was revision happy with DS, I can't see them revising the 3DS that much. With the DS redesigns, you saw that Nintendo made  better screens, slimmed it down, added multimedia features, and digital game downloads. With 3DS they are having all that functionality and more from the get-go, any other feature they would want on the system can be technically included via a firmware update, the original DS didn't have the luxury at all and thus you saw all these revisions for all of these functions. The only thing that can be considered missing on the 3DS is bluetooth which could of been useful for some kind of peripherals, then again that kind of feature can be built into 3DS game carts for games that would require it just like the Pokemon typing game for the DS.

The only revisions I can possibly see is a XL model with a slightly higher battery capacity, but that might on the other hand I don't really see that happening, because a bigger 3D LCD would probably be too expensive for that to become a reality (at least for a while).

Although Nintendo doesn't make any promises with the device, one can assume that the Bluetooth keyboard can be used with any other Bluetooth capable device, such as a computer or mobile phone, and Nintendo employees have been using it with iPhone and Android devices.

Nope I must of ignored that ^-^ But I see this thing ending up with Wii and/or 3DS support considering the suspicious looking home button on it.

Supposedly this keyboard can be used with other devices just look at this quote from Siliconera:

Quote from: Siliconera
The primary focus of the game is meant to teach children to type quickly without having to look down at the keyboard. However, while Nintendo don’t guarantee functionality, the keyboard that comes with the game can also be used with other Bluetooth devices. Nintendo president, Satoru Iwata, says that many within the company are using it with their iPhone and Android phones, and so is he.

I have a feeling as long as the device supports a HID bluetooth profile (typically devices with Human Interface Device profile includes mice, keyboards, controllers such as a PS3 controller and Wii remote) you can use this keyboard with that.

With how much  hassle I hear it its to get PS3 fixed, who really wants to send in their whole TV?

When I had to send in my PS3 to get fixed it wasn't a hassle, except that I had to start at square one with saves and downloading all my PSN games ( I unfortunately didn't have a backup harddrive) the biggest hassle was the $150 repair fee. But I was without a PS3 for a week, that's how fast Sony's turn around is.
