This is really, really cool. The person who wrote the music to that trailer is awesome.

This suggests to me more than ever before that Jonny was right on RFN when he said it's going to be Super Wii. The NES was for everybody, for kids, had a lot of shitty games in addition to good ones, and then the SNES was kind of the realization of the fan's dreams. Plus, it's nostalgic without going straight up Nintendo Entertainment System.

Nice article TYP, they were all things where it's like "Oh yeah, that is true," even though I hadn't thought about them specifically. I've heard that the best jokes or plot twists are always unexpected but are in hindsight obvious, and it's pretty cool that you pulled that off in an article like this. Not your average list article like most sites will have.

Wow, you guys really didn't like Monster Hunter, huh. There is a lot to get used to, the long animations especially. That's what people usually point to when they say they want Monster Hunter to westernize. Idk, for me it was totally worth the time sink. It's probably comparable to Twilight Princess' opening, but it doesn't have that sort of "oh god this is the new Zelda" feeling that makes you force your way through. As for the difficulty, I didn't have any trouble, but I guess that it's just something that differs from person to person and game to game, b/c I can't even beat Mega Man II on Normal mode.

I mean, it's certainly not for everyone, and I don't mean to say you can't have your opinions, I was just dissapointed that you guys were pretty negative because I usually agree with what you say, you know what I mean?

Wow, I think this may have been the first Mario game I ever played. I'll probably get it out of pure nostalgia.

Can someone explain to me why the limit even exists? Are they just so cheap they aren't even willing to pay for servers or something?

I think this will be the first music game I get. I don't really like most rock and it seemed like people had issues with the first game, but this seems perfect.

Wow, I haven't played a Layton game but the awesomeness of seeing Phoenix Wright fully animated will be enough to get me excited for this game.

I would not be surprised if it was cheaper in the US, because they figure they can get away with more in Japan.

It would be ridiculous if the SD slot wasn't unlocked to playing games off of like it is on the Wii.

I'm glad Nintendo isn't making a big deal about these numbers, because they mean absolutely nothing to me (except the flash storage).

Wow, just having got to the point where you get the screw attack (I actually yelled, "**** yeah!" when she said, "Any objections, Adam?"), I find that I disagree completely with all the criticism around this game. I realize the faults, but none of them have really bothered me or hindered my experience. I find the controls work well enough once you're used to them, and that the story actually is good for a video game, even if it wouldn't make it without a good game to get me invested in it. There is very good stuff there, the twist with Ridley was pretty awesome, as well as the foreshadowing about the existence of Metroids, by using the enemies remains from Super Metroid was pretty awesome. I feel like the localization screwed up, but by accepting that it's not great acting and dialogue, I am actually invested in the story. I was legitimately sad when Anthony died. In the same way, accepting that I'm unable to explore all these places until after the end of the game, means I can just enjoy the ride.

I'm about to download this and I'm really hoping you guys like it, because it seems like I'm the only Other M apologist out there. I really do like it, and the story, particularly the Ridley scenes, and right afterwards where Samus says, "Any objections, Adam?" and gives herself the Screw Attack. I think both times, I said, "Oh ****! That's awesome."

I'm about an hour in and I really don't mind the voice acting. It's not good, but none of the quotes (excepting "Confession time") are nearly as bad in context.

The only real problems are the pixel hunting parts and the upgrade system, they could have made it better by simply saying Samus' communication was jammed just like the other soldiers, so you can only get upgrades at save points, where the communication works. Then finding the save point takes the place of finding the item.

Great review Zach, best one I've read. I just got my copy in the mail, so I haven't played it yet, but this seems like the most fair review based purely on criticism, not great like IGN's or hating on it like G4, both seem to have let their expectations to get the better of them.

It seems to me that, similar to Zelda (portable vs. main games) and Mario (2D and 3D), Metroid is being split into two types. There's the Super/Prime types and the Sakamoto ones. Other M seems to be a 3D Fusion or Zero Mission in the way Prime was a 3D Super Metroid. The best part of Zero Mission was the endgame too, even just counting after you get back into Zebes. Samus sounds to be the same as from Fusion too.

That US commercial is just cringeworthy.
I thought it would be at first (idk what there obsession with the thumbs down is), but when you see Samus reaching out to the baby, the rest of it gave me chills, it was actually kind of awesome.

TalkBack / Re: NBA Jam Also Coming to 360, PS3 in Reduced Form
« on: August 09, 2010, 01:39:12 AM »
Is anyone else worried that all the attention EA has been putting on the Wii version's single player modes might turn into "well, there is no online, but look at all this other content that you get"?

That might be responded to with a "Hey, there is money in my wallet, but look at all these copies of NBA Jam I'm not buying."
And of course that gives them another excuse about how their games don't sell on Wii. I'm not saying you should buy it on Wii for that reason, but it's just another example of a publisher pulling the rug out under their Wii games do to lack of confidence, which just perpetuates the cycle. Conduit has been the only time I can think of where a third party Wii game got things like, oh I don't know, ads perhaps? And Conduit sold pretty well especially considering it wasn't a great game in the most bloated genre.

Having played NBA Jam for SNES, it really confused me when the music sounded exactly the same... only with different songs. I love that game though. I still play it fairly often. When I played it as a kid I would jump off the couch whenever I shot or dunked, annoying the hell out of my brothers. Now it can actually make me shoot too, with the motion controls.

It really shows how widespread it is when I meet little kids who are switching between Geometry Wars and Spirit Tracks on the fly, unbeknownst to them or their parents that it's illegal.

Only 2/5, but I'm very happy to have gotten the first game without ever having heard the music. Weird music, but Karl says it's serious... what games are both? Oh wait, it's Karl of course it's Killer 7.
