It's a hardware limitation like some of you mentioned.
Just like with Monhun 4, the 3DS requires a reboot after closing the game and can't run another app at the same time.

It would be nice to get an official answer on what's happening with the 3DS VC in Japan.

The game will not only be removed from the eshop but also stop working from sept. 1st according to the game's website, or did I read that wrong?

Danny, what do you think about the lack of new VC releases on the 3DS for so long?
Not sure what to make of it, but I'm starting to get anxious/worried.

Calm down, 3DS games are obviously coming to 3DS eventually, they'll just be timed WiiU exclusives for a while to give it a boost.

The paid service Gallery: World remains active.

I already redeemed the ''3 free games per account'' with the current campaign in the Japanese Club Nintendo.
A friend gave me a fourth code for Starfox 64, but now I'm afraid to use it...
