Title: Who's excited for Animal Crossing: New Leaf
Post by: paleselan on May 12, 2013, 12:34:18 AM
Animal Crossing has always been one of those franchises that I have absolutely adored! I paid off my whole loan in the original game, and put tons of hours into the DS and Wii versions as well. Now,  I can't wait for New Leaf. It comes out the week after school gets out, so there will be a lot of time with just me, my 3DS, and Animal Crossing.

Are you guys excited for it?

Honest answer? Not me. I've only ever played one Animal Crossing game (I played City Folk on Wii about 4 months ago) and found it to be incredibly monotonous. The idea of collecting thousands of in-game trinkets and speaking with characters who spout reams of inane dialogue holds no appeal to me whatsoever. I'm not trying to be harsh here, but I really don't understand the appeal of those games. Without wanting to offend any grown up fans of Animal Crossing, based on what I played of City Folk (around 20 hours) the games do seem to be squarely aimed at children; which is fine, because most Nintendo properties are, but in the case of Animal Crossing I didn't find anything that appealed to me at the ripe old age of 25.

Half the reason I bought my 3DS was because of Animal Crossing New Leaf, so excited for that game. I love games that are easy going and happy. No stress involved. As will all the AC titles, just being able to turn it on and chill out in a serene world after a long day is bliss and a nice way to relax :D

Am getting its first day, hopefully it gets me back into liking the franchise after the lackluster Wii effort.

Were you playing for long periods of time at once? AC is meant to be played 20-ish minutes each day. It's much more fun that way.

I would say I was probably playing around 40 mins each day. I would dig up fossils, collect fruit, comb the beaches, speak to the inhabitants, pay off some debt, visit the city, buy some furniture, water the plants, etc. but it was the same thing over and over again. To me it felt similar to grinding in an RPG and I didn't find it fun, unfortunately.

The series has always been better suited to a handheld, and now to being a digital download.

The money is already paid off and setting on my 3DS's E-shop account.   This game is honestly my most wanted 3ds game so far.

I don't know why, but I love the series.  I love just checking in daily and doing a few things in my town.  Having it digitally always on my system is going to be perfect.    Really looking forward to it!

Want to ease the wait for Animal Crossing: New Leaf (or perhaps make it worse)? Here is a nifty little site that plays Animal Crossing tunes in sync to the current time, in an endless loop. It even switches at the hour http://tane.us/ac/ (http://tane.us/ac/) There are buttons on the lower left side of the screen that allow you to switch between games.

Make mundane activities in real life as much fun as in Animal Crossing! I think i'm gonna go weed the garden

I was considering a purchase but I realize the whole appeal of the game was playing with the community. There were a core 3-4 of us almost always playing and about a half dozen other people that would pop in randomly from time to time as well. Made for a fun and varied experience.

But half of those people don't even frequent the boards here anymore and the few that do don't plan on getting this game. So I have a feeling I'm going to end up passing on it. I played City Folk for hours with other people and I never really got bored with it. But that was with other people. I don't want to play the game solo for 20-40 minutes a day.

Monster Hunter serves the same purpose for me (glorified chat box with fun side games) while having much more fulfilling gameplay.

I may cave on the purchase depending on what sort of community develops for it on the boards.

I seriously cannot wait for this game.  I still wish I got the same feelings of awe and wonder I had when I first played it on the Cube but I'll never get that again.  It is still a great escape and gives off a little illusion of a real world if you let yourself go into its world and not analyze the game's merits as a "video game".  I think the fact that it is synced with a real clock is what really gets me and I'm surprised not many other games have copied this feature.  I always get the feeling of popping on every now and then just to see whats going on in town.  Playing Animal Crossing during a snowy winter night during Christmas in real life as its snowing in game and you happen to run into another night owl villager pacing around town is surreal to me.

I think you have to have played and been captured by the original to really appreciate the series because nostalgia is a very strong feeling in this franchise which helps  the series moreso than it hurts it IMO.

I'm so hyped for this game that I'm probably going to be camping outside of the Nintendo Store that weekend it comes out. I've been fighting the urge to play past iterations, but I've been absorbing all the media I can in order to gain insight without running into spoilers. I seriously can't wait.

You should camp out on launch night only to buy the game digitally.

I know someone locally who plans on getting it so they might turn me into a buyer.

I would actually love to do that. I was actually the 1st person in North America to buy the first Layton game at the Nintendo Store and at the event Nintendo Power was there taking pics of everyone and they really wanted me to take a picture with one of those huge Layton hats and I refused. A few months later some kid in a top hat is in the mag with a cheese grin. I would love for that to happen and for me to just be online downloading it from the eShop- BUT- they are going to have an event on the 8th and the game comes out on the 9th so I will just be playing a day earlier than most.

I went to the Nintendo Store and while no one was allowed to tell me any actual details about the release event I was shown New Leaf running on an XL and itt looks gorgeous! They showed me the different shops, fruits and houses. I was also shown what is going on with StreetPass- there's like a section where all the characters you StreetPass hang out and you get to see inside their house where you can order some of the furniture that they have. It wasn't clear if you get anything else, but for each player there is a profile, sort of like the ProfiCards in Final Fantasy Theatrhythm. On the back of the cards are badges that players collect through different ways- it seemed like a little Achievement System. I also got to see how Best Friend communication works, you can see who is online and the messages pop up very fast so communication seems to be real smooth. Seriously- I really can't wait for this game.

If you're planning on getting Animal Crossing right away, and want another town to visit (raid for new fruits, whatever), make sure you have me added on your friends list!  (and message me on here so I can add you back).

I've been playing the game for NWR's review for over two weeks now, so I've got a leg up, and am willing to open my gates pretty much every night for the first week or so - as long as we're already friends.

Here's my friend code: 0559-6778-1205

Add me now so you're ready to go when the game comes out!

I'm looking forward to the game. Especially since I can tailor the time of the world to fit my schedule.  That's always been the biggest issue with me with the game. Sure I could always change the time of the system but I always lost interest before I got to that point because I couldn't play it like it was meant to be played. It being on a hand held that I always take with me and being digital are huge pluses as well.

Quick question to all my fellow AC fanatics.  I'm debating if I should watch the Animal Crossing movie before the game comes out to really take my excitement up a notch lol, but, is the movie any good/ worth watching?  Would watching it ruin my nostalgia for AC or will it compliment it?  I say this because in the game, the characters have their strange yet pleasant animal speak but in the anime they will have an actual voice.  Depending on how they come across, it might ruin how I've always looked at these characters.  So what say you, is the movie a go for me?

I was able to grab this yesterday (two days early) and have not put it down. The NWR review was spot on. I bought the cartrige since the store I stumbled upon was already selling them, but i would recommend the download. This is not leaving the sysytem! Please add me when you pick it up and come visit my town; the gate will be open.  :D Cptroboto 4897-6497-8151

I don't know, man. Do what you will, but I watched the first 10 minutes of the movie and nearly fell asleep. So, there's that.

That sounds like a great way to hype yourself up for more Animal Crossing! It's a cute kids movie, so really it depends on your tolerance for that kind of show, and "slice of life" series. It is a bit slow paced, but there are so many character and villager cameos that it's still fun. Youre right that it is a bit weird hearing the characters speak in normal voices (and then KK's singing...) but it wasn't enough to ruin any of it for me. It's been quite a while since I've seen it, but I think the voices and behaviours stayed true to the villager's game personas (ie sporty, cute, grumpy... Apollo is a grumpy loner, Rosie is cute and nice, etc).

I'd say that since you're curious enough to ask about watching it, you should just go give it a try! You'll never know otherwise...

Just downloaded the game tonight!  So sad it was so late and I couldn't do much besides just setting up my village and getting welcomed into it.

My native fruit is Oranges, in case anyone wants to do some underground shady fruit trading!

My 3DS friend code is 2406-5138-0670 if anyone wants to add me, just pm me and let me know and I will add you back.   Anyone is welcome to come to my town when it's open to poke around or take a few oranges if they want.  (Although I might ask not to take them all, so others can have them too.  Me included.)  :)

I went to the Nintendo World Store event and saw literally hundreds of Animal Crossing fans. The line was as long as the Mario Galaxy event they had a few years out, but everyone was really surprised about the turn out. THey had several activities to do that got you New Leaf buttons. I got two sets and even an extra KK Slider button. I bought the XL Pop-Tart Bundle and did a system transfer which deleted my original save, but I already was back up to speed by this morning. I visited DrewMG's town and scored some new fruit for my town.
This is the game I've been waiting for and the very reason I was excited for the 3DS. I think a lot of people are going to end up playing this and really enjoying it. Add me to visit my town: 1762 2808 0367 I have added everyone who posted in this thread!

I had my gate open for a while and got a few visitors, thanks for coming through! We all just got booted out and I reopened if you wanted to finish anything up here.

Also I added all visitors to my best friend's list so we could get a nice network of Turnip Prices going on amongst ourselves. I figure like this- Once a day I'll tell you my town's buying price and you can reply with your town's prices and whether you want to come and sell at my town.

I woke up early and found a sea gull passed out on the beach, he might have been hung over. I got my first house upgrade and I'm ready for the next one.
I had a great time visiting everyone's towns yesterday. I even got to check out DJ KK routine which was really fun. I've been taking a lot of screen shots, but I noticed that when I view them in the Camera App the images don't seem so crisp.

I think I'll make a Turnip Prices thread here so we can all benefit.

That would be Awesome.

Really? That kind of sucks, everyone really seems hard up for tools, myself included. It seems like the game is set on pacing how and when you unlock or get certain things.

Best Buy is giving special furniture away via Nintendo Zone. I hope it works through all Nintendo Zone portals and not just Best Buy, but we'll see what goes. Here's the link with items and dates, also there is a N-Zone locator in case you need to find one: http://www.nintendo.com/3ds/nintendozone

It's funny. I just moved this weekend and in between unpacking and organizing I'm playing a game where I just moved and I'm trying to situate myself... Ah, the wonder of life's paradoxes.

A) How do you turn on StreetPass

I just put in for my second expansion on my house and I was told about the Happy Home Showcase. Hopefully it gets turned on tomorrow with the remodeling because I really want to see how Street Pass is done. Also I have a new townie moving in, but I won't meet them until tomorrow.

So everything is pretty good in my town, but they are selling the same tools as they were since Sunday! I've never seen this in past games, it's pretty annoying since I've been asking everyone for extras (Thanks to Fatty in Animales for the fishing rod). I unlocked Street Pass and the island today, but I have to wait until tomorrow to go visit it. Oh and I got a sweet pair of Hero's Boots!

I got my second house upgrade (counting actually building the house as 1) today. I'm getting the same tools everyday too, and can't wait for Nook's store to upgrade.

Has anyone figured out if there is any difference between selling things to Nook and selling to the resale shop? I think in previous games selling to Nook counted toward the totals for upgrading his shop, but the game seems to be pushing the resale shop pretty hard.

i found out the mortgage totals and nook is just going to kill my wallet isn't he...
Quote
348,000 bells for a room on the left (4x4)
348,000 bells for a room on the right (4x4)
348,000 bells for a room in the back (4x4)
428,000 bells for a basement (4x4)

498,000 bells for widening the upstairs room (to 6x6)
498,000 bells to widen the left room (to 6x6)
498,000 bells to widen the right room (to 6x6)
498,000 bells to widen the back room (to 6x6)
498,000 bells to widen the basement (to 6x6)

598,000 bells to widen the upstairs room (to 8x8)
598,000 bells to widen the left room (to 8x8)
598,000 bells to widen the right room (to 8x8)
598,000 bells to widen the back room (to 8x8)
598,000 bells to widen the basement (to 8x8)

So, that's 19 loans totalling 7,595,800 bells for a wholly-owned, finished Mansion.

its a huge house but that is a huge price... i am going to have to significantly expand the scope of my perfect fruit exploit which is as follows, please note that when i say peaches i just mean your default fruit.

Quote
note: perfect fruit is basically a form of regular fruit that is much more valuable, however you can only grow perfect versions of your towns native fruit (i can only grow perfect peaches, if i attempt to plant a perfect cherry i will only get regular ones

step 1, get a perfect fruit and begin planting, you want to have enough to make at least ten full baskets(a full basket is 9 fruit)

step 2, harvest them and store them in a wardrobe,

step 3: store them in your drawer**

step 4, DO NOT SELL THEM IN YOUR TOWNS RE-TAIL,(you only get 600 each,) sell them in a friends town* instead, to get 3,000 per bundle, a full basket of 9 perfect peaches would sell for 27,000 in a town that doesn't have the bell boom ordinance.

*if your friend happens to have the same native fruit as you, dont sell it to their town.

**ideally devote a segment of your drawer for this
my first load got me about 500,000 bells(i think bell

To add some relief to everyone's want for Tools I have started a Free Pile of Tools by my town's station. I have nets, a fishing rod and a shovel. If anyone needs one you can just grab the one free of charge.
I unlocked the Island and Town Ordinances so I've got crazy bells to raise for  bunch of projects.

Thanks Pokepal for posting the info on fruit. I'm going to set that up and see how it works out.

Oh and my gf plays Style Savvy and she says that there is special DJ KK shirts in the game if anyone is playing that.

I got my second house upgrade (counting actually building the house as 1) today. I'm getting the same tools everyday too, and can't wait for Nook's store to upgrade.

Has anyone figured out if there is any difference between selling things to Nook and selling to the resale shop? I think in previous games selling to Nook counted toward the totals for upgrading his shop, but the game seems to be pushing the resale shop pretty hard.
re-tail gives more money, nook is more conveniently located in terms of where the money goes
no sales don't count for upgrades

I thought since I can go to the island that we could all get together and play some games, but this game makes you work for every. single. thing. I can't believe, but I do. Geez. I also got my first Animal Crossing Street Pass- Huzzah!

Awesome to hear, I hope you get lots of fruit. Since I got to the island I have new fruit- bananas, lychee and cherries. One of my townies wants an apple if anyone can spare one.

I'm loving this game and this thread but I do have to say, the line between a spoiler and some tips to fellow gamers is very small with this game.  I like to come on and read what everyone has done and received but sometimes I end up reading things that I didn't know about and would've preferred being surprised with lol.

Anyways, I do love how the game spaces things out now.  Its annoying having to wait so long for things to happen or other things to become accessable but it makes the world feel alive as it grows over time.  The fact that some tools haven't been available in weeks is also a nice touch as it fosters players to see others out and want to visit their villages.

How is everyone visiting each other's towns?  Are you all opening your gates and just randomly checking who's open when you are playing?  Every time I've gone on to see if anyone is open, I don't get any results.  I am a night owl though so I don't really expect everyone to be playing as late as me lol.  My progress has also suffered given the damn stores are just about closing when I finally get to put in work in AC.  AC needs a Walmart supercenter lol.

Anyways, I think I've added everyone here so I'll be checking in on those gates every now and then lol.  Till then, I'm glad to see everyone is having fun.  AC is such an amazing game/series.

Thanks for visiting Scarboro, Manny et al! Twas fun! i wont be able to play online at all tomorrow, sadly, so I will have to come visit Winterfell another time. Yeah I'm slow at typing... I wish there was a chat log so you could review messages if you missed them (I noticed there was one for the Best Friends messages though). As for playing online with others, I've just been checking if anyone has their gate open, or I'll leave my gate open for people to visit, so it's been pretty random.

I just downloaded and started playing so I don't have much to offer quite yet. I really like to make custom designs of sports teams jerseys and stuff so if that appeals to you pop into my town in a week or so and check that out.

I played on the island with three friends and it was the best time I had in Animal Crossing ever. The games are addictive and being able to do whatever you like on the beach is the perfect balance of fun. Also communication between Best Friends is completely uncensored.

I made a mistake in my perception about how the island works though: once you can go there everyone can play. What you have to pay for is Club Tortimer which lets you play with people all over the world and from what I've read there isn't much activity there.

Nookling Junction is selling the exact same set of tools again. I don't understand how this is helpful... unless I just start trading or selling it off. I set the process to upgrade the store so hopefully that will switch things up. Redd is in my town today too.

So, I have no experience with this game, but I picked it up for my wife and she loves it.  Only problem now is that she accidentally sold her shovel, and when she went to go buy a new one, the store says it's sold out.

Could anyone provide input on how one re-purchases a shovel in this game, or if there's anything she can do in-game to earn a new one?

The shop changes its wares every day, so a shovel will end up being sold again there eventually.

Would anyone like to visit my town? I have oranges, and I would like some other fruit.
I've built a second bridge, and now I am trying to get a fountain built just in front of town hall.

I had fun at Dan Laser's town last night lol, first time ever out of my original town in any AC outside of the memory card swaps from the Cube days lol.  Will be popping in others towns here and there lol.

As for the tools not changing up in town, I think that was done to facilitate players venturing out of their town in search of the other tools in other gamer's towns.  I guess this encourages communication.

I'm in heaven today lol, its raining here in upstate ny and in my AC village lol.  I'm trying to do as  much fishing as I can before I go to court tonight :/.

I certainly would! I saw that you were online just now but your gates were not open. I went to mjafyx's town instead. Now I've got cherries and peaches. I plan on checking in almost every night, but I'm still very early in the game and haven't unlocked very much yet. Thanks to mjafyx for the visit.

I just got the third expansion on my house, I have gotten a bunch of Street Pass and I've been to a lot of towns. I have hit a good stride in the game and all I'm waiting for are just more expansions and the particular item here and there.

I've been taking a lot of pics in the game and I've uploaded the good ones to my flickr page. I've added the link to my signature on the bottom so I don't have to post the link and spam the feed, but check it out if you like- maybe you'll see your villager!

I started production on a sorely needed bridge today, and have put up a quarter of the needed funds. I love that this game has more things to do with money, because with this series I've historically always lost interest once I no longer had things to buy.

I have two bridges in town currently, a fountain in front of the town hall, and now I have a bench that is being built in what I am designated as a park. Tomorrow I'm going to build a third bridge connecting an upper peninsula to the bottom.

EDIT: I also built a network of sidewalks. I was going to do roads like I did in City Folk (as seen here):

But it's a lot of work and a bit overwhelming right now. I might do it later, though.

There is construction going on downtown, it looks like I'll get theGardening Store tomorrow and I also switched my town to have later nights.

My apple tree just bore fruit you can come by and I believe I have some in the locker. You can come get them when you have time or I can bring them to you. Just hit me up in game or PM me and I'll open my town.

Edit: My town will be open for the majority of the night. I may be playing or not, but I will try to let visitors know. Retail is giving extra Bells for Lychee.

I just spent a some time making designs for some hockey jerseys. I've got the original six all covered (Chicago and Detroit were quite challenging) I think I'm going to do some other classics, like the Gretzky Oilers jersey I made in city folk, then move onto football and baseball. If you're interested in picking up any of my designs send me a pm and we can set up a time for a visit. I'm still looking for a watering can and fruits other than cherries, apples and peaches.

I'm doing something similar in my town, but with music artists. I'm making Hip Hop patterns, but I just may do other genres that I like. I only have a Wu-Tang Clan logo displayed, but I am working on a J Dilla one. if I could set up a nice grid design on my computer I would consider doing album covers for tiles.  I'm also considering doing some cartoon designs like the Thundercats logo and possibly the plug suits from Evangelion for example.

EDIT: Also, feel free to bring some fruit. I have oranges as my town fruit.

Cptroboto, Mannypon, Cambot, mjafyx, and alegoicoe- I have all of you added, please add me back if you like!

Since getting a watering can I spent the better part of the day gardening in my town. I can't wait to get an axe so I can clear some trees out of the way. I added a clock and I'm building another bridge. I have a lot of room, but not enough furniture that I like. Street Pass has helped out with getting items and furniture so I guess I have to be patient.

Just started my copy of Animal Crossing: New Leaf earlier today. I'm looking forward to actually visiting other towns, something I've never really been able to do with this series. The timezone difference with all the North American fellows (the majority of you) might make it tricky, but I reckon I could work around it.

I've been on a road trip for the past 6-7 days. So while I was on the road I decided to go and buy my first ever Animal Crossing game! But now that I'm home and have a stable internet connection I'd like to use the online capabilites of the game more, and that's why I would like to join the Animal Crossing: New Leaf community here @NWR. But even though I'm new to the game, I'll make sure to not dig up your property and destroy your flowers. :)

So for those of you that wants to add me to your 3DS friend list, here is my FC: 4682-8467-2345
I'm pretty sure I've added everyone so far, If I missed you, please PM me!

I just want to say the this has been a very enjoyable game for me so far where I learn new things every day. And since there is something new happening each day as well, It's makes it easy to come back to. (Good thing I bought it on the eShop)

Fruit that I have so far: Apples, Lychees, Mangoes and Durians.

If I haven't told you specifically in a PM or in this thread then I haven't added you.  I'm still waiting to hear back from Cptroboto, Mannypon, Cambot, mjafyx, and alegoicoe. Please add me back by next week or I will delete your tag to make room for others.

Katie is SO adorable! I had someone bring her to my town, but I haven't seen her back in Scarboro. I did find a lost item on the ground, and had to return it to a villager. And in more exciting news, I finally found Gulliver! He was heading to France.

I've had the island for a few days now - you guys are right that it is the easiest way to make money. I was able to pay off my bridge the next day. Now I'm debating on upgrading my house or building more things in town.

I've also had the new shop next to the Able Sisters' for a few days now, but I haven't bought anything. My Nook's hasn't upgraded yet, though. There just hasn't been that much cool furniture I'd want yet, but I might just start buying whatever they have so that they will upgrade. Have many people had their shop expanded?

The in-game weather has been matching my real local weather almost every day. So weird!

@Mannypon - was that painting you bought at Redd's back in my town a real or fake? My statue was a fake :( I haven't seen Redd again.

@Fleece nice AC flickr! I have not been taking pictures at all...

I've added everyone who has posted their FC. See yas at AC!

I've been burned by Redd three times already- the first two were directly from him selling me bogus art and then a townie sold me a painting that turned out to be fake. I wish I knew how to tell if his stuff was real or not before those times, but a townie won't show it to you- it's just a leaf symbol and there's no way to tell. Combine that with the fact that turnip prices change at noon has me flipping out in minor ways. I hit the townie with my net a few times.

My shop is closed for expansion and another shop is being built. It's been raining for most of the week which is mirroring my real life in a few ways, that's a feature that goes way back with the series. Thanks for checking out the pics, I think I'll being doing a weekly photo dump because I'm always taking pics in the game.

Thanks for the apples, Fleece!  :D
You're welcome, Phil! It took a while but I got them to you. You're town is amazing. I always enjoy seeing towns where players put in a great effort to make it unique. Thanks for the Durian!

my golden fruit operation is basically shutting down... i may collect the last few harvests but i won't be replanting them when the trees die...

the island is simply much more efficient then perfect fruit.

either way im basically destroying the loan at this point. i have 300k left on the current expansion and two more at 598k

3. Chicago Blackhawks - Patrick Kane

Well, my final bridge has been funded and construction should complete tomorrow. I really felt like I needed to get those things built, because the layout of my village was super frustrating to navigate because of how the river intersected it.

I'm not sure if there are quicker ways to make bells, but what I did was implement the Rich Town ordinance and then spent the following couple of days picking fruit from the Island and selling it at Re-Tail (luckily they were paying high for Lemons and I found loads of them while on the Hide 'n' Seek tour).

With my bridges built though I'm not quite sure what I want to do next.  :-\

I was having the same trouble and my final bridge was completed today. I don't know how much Bells you were making from island fruit, Pixelated, but I almost made 100,000 Bells from catching island bugs at night. I plan to keep doing that to pay off my house. I was able to get the construction for Club LOL going, but I don't know how long it will take.

I was probably making around 60,000 per trip. I'll have to try catching bugs instead. It sounds much more lucrative. Were you just catching them in the rental area, or were you going on a tour to catch them?

I was catching them in the rental area and filling the basket up to two pages. In two trips I made 80,000 Bells. I was also catching any large fish- basically anything that was shark looking, but there are many large beetles that go for high prices in the town so that was what I focused on.

I have no problem doing requests I like creating pixelated approximations of the logos this is what makes the game fun for me. I'm looking forward to when I can make custom furniture. Also once hockey is over I will turn my attention to football and baseball as is my custom. I want to make a Colby Rasmus Jays jersey and get some sweet mullet hair to complete the outfit.

It's Street Pass based and so far the only Spot Pass info sent out has been Reggie.

Thanks.

Yes! I kept tripping a few days ago, but it went away the next day. I thought it was the ladder shades Isabelle gave me at first since I was tripping with them on. I changed my accessories but it didn't help. I moved around some furniture to improve the feng shui but since I didn't see any changes until the next day I'm not sure if that had any effect either.

Redd is visiting Scarboro if anyone wants to check out his wares. I'll be eating supper, so I probably won't respond to any visitors for a while...

Visiting Reggie's home was pretty cool! Love the greeting on his card. The HHS is actually a really handy way of finding furniture (if you are lucky enough to get street passes - I've had about 5 so far).

Can male characters wear skirts and dresses?

Male and Female characters can wear either orientation of clothes. The Able Sisters will let you know which is which, but will let you wear whatever you like.

I added The Dream Suite to my town, I wasn't sure if I would be into it or not, but after getting it all explained I think it's pretty cool. I haven't actually tried it yet, but while it might sound like a waste of time I suggest you go ahead and build it anyway, you never really know what can happen in this game.

Also I have Octavian moving out tomorrow- if anyone would like a grumpy octopus who builds his house in inconvenient spots come and convince him to move into your town. Otherwise he will be sent to the digital vapors.

I posted this in the official Turnip Selling thread on the Matchmaking forum, but I thought I'd mention it here just because I've never seen the turnip prices this high before.

Trying to place Public Works in this game is a real drag.

'It's too close to the railway'

'It's too close to the cliff'

'It's too close to something'

'Something'? What the hell does Isabelle even mean by 'something' anyway? Can't she be more specific?

She keeps talking about needing 2 spaced to the left, 3 spaces to the right, 6,984 spaces to the back, but none of it means anything. The spaces aren't visible to the player. I know what one space should constitute based on how much ground flowers and other smaller objects take up, but because of the curved nature of the ground in Animal Crossing and because I sometimes want to place projects in areas of the village where there is nothing around for context, it can sometimes be very difficult to judge distance; especially when you can't actually see the Public Work you're trying to place (it's dumb that the game only shows you what the project looks like once you've found a spot that it can occupy).

What the game should do is let the player select a general area within which they wish to place the project, then bring up a colour-coded grid to let the player know where they can and can't place something.

i need the exotic wall shelf and carpet

i am also in need of a mushroom, fireflower, and bill cannon

using the exhibition rooms in the mueseum(after getting the second floor) i have opened a shop for extra nintendo items that i don't want (sometimes i keep them for a certain use, for example my pair of metroids in the basement) but even though it's comical that my dupe has a set of heroes clothes to herself(i am not selling those for the record) I think it is better for the most part to offer these types of things to others...

on the subject of Redd since i never explained my statement of there being a way to tell the real paintings from the fakes the method is simple

fake paintings or statues, just looking at them generally have some flaw compared to the genuine one(such as the size of an object or some other thing...)
there are several places where you can find a list of these things...

In other news, I have once again missed the turnip salesperson. I saw her (him?) wandering around, went to get some more cash from the machine in the post office and then could not find her again. Do you only get to glimpse her once? Does she only come around in the morning or something? I am baffled.

Hi Mr. Hutt. My town's native fruit is oranges. I can also see if Leif's is selling an axe, or I can just give you mine from inside my house.

And yeah, Joan is in town Sundays up until noon. She gets around, that's for sure.

Phil, I would love a few oranges. You don't have to give me your only axe, I'll get a new one eventually, I am sure.

I am in the mountain (daylight savings) time zone. So that's one hour ahead of PST, two hours earlier than EST. I don't know where you are but I will open my gates at around 7:00 p.m. my time tonight and leave the items on the ground just outside the station. I probably won't be monitoring the game at the time. Feel free to wander around, take what you like. I have pretty much every fruit except for oranges (I think) so help yourself.

Does this work for you?

I'm not totally sure about this, but I think you would take screen shots of your QR code in game (L+R), then either take your SD card to your computer, save, and upload the image from there, or go to the web browser on your 3ds and upload the image that way. You could try logging into the forum and uploading the pict directly from the 3ds browser, or use nintendo's site to upload it to Facebook, tumblr, or twitter (then share the image link).

http://www.nintendo.com/3ds/image-share (http://www.nintendo.com/3ds/image-share)

Hope that helps a bit?

Pokepal, if you still need the exotic wall shelf and carpet, you can catalog mine. I also have an extra fire flower that you can have if I can catalog some of your furniture :D

Outside of racing strangers in MK7, I've never used the online stuff on my 3DS until I added a couple of people's friend codes from this thread.  I instantly got a couple of houses in my HHS--that's from adding the codes, right? One was a girl character with a stunning house that makes mine look really sad. But, I now have an idea of what these houses can ultimately be.

I'll figure out what my friend code is and post it later.  I'm still not entirely sure when people can enter my town and when I can enter theirs, but know that I've been playing a week, it's my first AC, and my house is nothing to write home about at the moment.

My town fruit is pear, and I just added lemon, durian, and coconut last night.

Bought an axe! Cut down my rotted Perfect Peach tree without the axe breaking this time!

I am seriously contemplating re-doing my tree groves. I planted trees too close together and in straight vertical rows which, I see now, makes collecting fruit and hunting bugs less convenient than it should be. Plus, I don't dig the aesthetics. Off-set rows that re not too close to each other is the way to go.

I'm CST, just an hour ahead, so as soon as my brother is finished doing what he's doing in town, I'll be over.

So, I just did some reading, and the only way to get homes in the HHS are through Streetpass?  I drove around with my 3DS yesterday and picked up a couple, but I thought I got them from adding some FC here (I happened to add two people right before I discovered I had two people in my HHS).  I guess I'll have to drive around with my 3DS some more.

Is there a way to share the houses?  This one I got has a main room that is gorgeous.  I'll try to take a screenshot lately.

Phil: I have extras of the 1-up mushroom and triple shells. Did you still need the Mario block flooring? I'll trade for Midna's Mask, or even just a chance to catalog some of your furniture (you have the modern wood furniture?) If Insanolord wants the Bill Blaster, maybe I'll let him trade his 1up shroom for it and I'll trade the triple shells.

Pokepal, did you still need a fire flower, exotic wall shelf, or exotic carpet?

Ras: To clarify a bit just in case, you do get homes in the HHS through both street passes and spot passes. I've had about 10 or so street passes and 4 spot passes (Reggie, Krys, Rich, and DY). It's been a really handy way to get furniture.

Oh and you asked on the previous page about visiting between towns - you may have figured it out already by now, but you have to open your gate at the train station to let people in (faraway: online; nearby: local). That is the only time people can come into your town (there is the Dream Suite, but that's something else…). If you want to go to someone else's town, tell the monkey you want to go visit another town, and hope that someone has their gates open. If you register someone as a best friend (you do this when in someone else's town, or when they are in your town) you can then see when they are online, and a notification ("I am online") will go out when they log in. You can also message them while they are in their own town, which can be pretty handy.

I haven't been playing online much lately. Too focused on making those bells! I also have a lot of junk sitting on the ground and don't want people to steal it!

Oh yeah, I have the Best Buy exclusive racoon clock, and will soon get the cat tower if anyone wants to catalog them. They are order-able through T&T.

Dan, thanks for the info.  I wasn't sure how I got my first two, since I got them right after taking my 3DS on a tour of the city, but I see that I definitely got them from Spotpass, as I have Krys and DY.  Krys's is the beautiful main room I was talking about, and now I won't try to get screenshots since she was Spotpassed to "everyone."  I'm still hoping to get Reggie.

Thanks to some furniture from Krys and DY, my house is not looking too bad.  Bree liked it when she visited.   ;)

i love how people are complaining about people who have gyroid basements and nintendo/balloon themed rooms in their streetpass homes

Title: Re: Who's excited for Animal Crossing: New Leaf
Post by: TheFleece on July 17, 2013, 08:07:36 PM
I just sold off my gyroids. They were in the way and I couldn't see anything constructive coming out of them so I just sold them off. I've seen a lot of houses and I've seen more NIntendo houses than anything else and it can be annoying I guess, but I set a different requirement for houses. If the score isn't around my HHA score or higher then I'm actually not going to look at it. I can guess what they have and a lot of times I'm right. A higher score simply means more variety, a complete set or a theme in multiple rooms. People who have Nintendo rooms won't actually have a very high score so I've been seeing less of them.
Title: Re: Who's excited for Animal Crossing: New Leaf
Post by: pokepal148 on July 17, 2013, 09:09:21 PM
i've pretty much stopped caring about the HHA now that i have the gold trophy..

i jumped to 100k with a complete exotic set (-carpet) and said screw it.

right now i have all of the mario items in the back room and a few more spread about where appropriate(the virtual boy and balance board are in the basement, i made fun of the room where i put the blue series by putting my blue falcon in there, i have a heroes outfit on one of the mannequins that i use occasionally

generally though i rely heavily on feng shui when choosing how to display stuff and the triforce is insane in that regard(x2 yellow and a lucky bonus on top of that). alot of other nintendo items are also simply filled with reds and greens

right now i'm working on displaying the house the way i want to, feng shui brings some in game bonus's so i will follow that but otherwise screw the HHA

Since getting them game I've been focusing on my village and the Museum and therefore haven't even engaged with any of the HHA stuff. In fact, my home is pretty much used as a giant cupboard that holds all my stuff, with no rhyme of reason.

I plan to eventually create a bar in my basement, and a games room upstairs, but having everything be part of the same collection or all my items and furniture plastered with the same colour doesn't seem all that appealing to me.

I created a second character, mostly for extra storage, but I've decided to use his house to display all my Nintendo paraphernalia. My only real issue is there's no easy way to transfer items between the two; I basically just have to dump stuff out in front of the other character's house.

I think you could put all the items in a cabinet in your house or in the train station locker and then access them from another cabinet in the other house. Makes it slightly easier (in theory). You would have to use the same character when placing the items in the cabinet and retrieving them, which may impinge upon your idea that the second character was for storage.

Come to think of it, I am not sure this trick will work if you are accessing a cabinet that is not in your own house (or the train station)
hmmm...
Title: Re: Who's excited for Animal Crossing: New Leaf

The cabinet for the second player is separate from the cabinet for the first, which is basically the whole reason I did this as I was running out of room in mine.
Title: Re: Who's excited for Animal Crossing: New Leaf
Post by: Fatty The Hutt on July 18, 2013, 12:42:47 PM
I know but if you placed items in your player 1 cabinet, can you access them (as player 1) from a cabinet in player 2's house? That's all I am thinking.
I wonder if it would make a difference if player 1 placed the cabinet in player 2's house?
Title: Re: Who's excited for Animal Crossing: New Leaf
Post by: NWR_insanolord on July 18, 2013, 12:51:56 PM
I don't think that would work. First off, I'm almost positive you can't place furniture in other people's houses, and I don't think player 2 could ever be inside player 1's house since player 1 by definition can't be there with him.

Title: Re: Who's excited for Animal Crossing: New Leaf

It would be nice to allow items placed outside. Then you could just set a cabinet down outside the other players house and dump to your hearts content without the running back and forth. Plus why do they give you camping equipment if you can't take the tent outside and place it?

I bought this game back in that 4th of July sale, but it was backordered so it took a while before I received it. Now that I have it, I have two simple questions:

1. Who on my 3DS list has this game too?
2. Who would like to add me?

I play mostly at night (EST), so I'm looking for other people who are also on at night, especially if you have stores open since most of mine are closed by the time I get there.

What is going on when an animal walks around with green stuff coming off their head and a little "whee! whee!" sound that accompanies it?  They usually look happy when it's happening, but I don't get it.

I tried opening a time capsule and now I see that I'm going to go down in the giver's esteem when she finds out I opened it.   :'( Well, she isn't one of my favorites.  But, I'll try to mend fences when it happens.

360,000 bells. And the island is good for small money, but too much time has to be spent to get any decent amount of money there.
Title: Re: Who's excited for Animal Crossing: New Leaf
Post by: NWR_insanolord on July 29, 2013, 03:14:08 PM
If you do it right you can pull in 250,000 bells per trip to the island. You consider that small money?
Title: Re: Who's excited for Animal Crossing: New Leaf
Post by: TJ Spyke on July 29, 2013, 03:19:33 PM
IIRC, that is if you are lucky enough to catch a bunch of sharks (which is rare). How can you easily make that much money other than being purely lucky to catch a ton of Whale Sharks (who have a 1% appearance rate).
Title: Re: Who's excited for Animal Crossing: New Leaf
Post by: NWR_insanolord on July 29, 2013, 03:30:00 PM
Go after 7 pm and catch the bugs on the palm trees. You'll routinely see ones worth 6-8,000 bells, with some going as high as 15,000. That plus catching sharks when you see them will bring in that kind of money for a full basket.
Title: Re: Who's excited for Animal Crossing: New Leaf
Post by: TJ Spyke on July 29, 2013, 03:34:23 PM
I never go to the island that late, guess I should start. Plus, I want to catch those bugs.

BTW, I hate that it will be nearly impossible for anyone outside of Japan to get all the badges. The Expert Walker badge requires you to StreetPass with 1,000 people. If that specifically means with New Leaf, that will be nearly impossible. Even if it just means overall StreetPasses (whether they have the game or not), that will still be very hard for most people
Title: Re: Who's excited for Animal Crossing: New Leaf
Post by: NWR_insanolord on July 29, 2013, 03:37:49 PM
That would be multiple conventions worth of StreetPasses. A thousand's probably fairly high even in Japan.
Title: Re: Who's excited for Animal Crossing: New Leaf
Post by: TJ Spyke on July 29, 2013, 04:33:08 PM
And I think, from what I am reading online, that the 1K number is specifically StreetPasses for people with the game. I can not verify if it counts multiple times with the same person separately (i.e. 5 streetpasses with the same person counts 5 times or if they mean 1K different people). MAYBE if you have friends you see everyday with the game, it might be possible eventually. Still, I would hope they would lower it. There is another badge that you get from pulling 5,000 weeds. If you take good care of your town, this could take years since I usually only have 1 or 2 weeds appear per day in mine.

In the middle of a promotion at my new job so my spare time got gobbled up. Hoping for things to settle down by the end of August.

The game gets more exciting the more I see expanding in it. I just wish there were more ways to get money. I dislike gathering tons of fruit and I'm growing tired of bug catching for profit.

Is there any other good way to make a good reliable income in the game?

You can always fish or sell whatever you dig up. You can also buy a lot of turnips and sell them when the prices are high, but really the best way to make money is to catch beetles at night on the island.

I haven't had a lot of time to play recently and I've got a lot of stuff in my town. It feels like I've hit a point where everything has slowed down and the next steps are just getting money to expand my house so I can furnish it. I've stopped buying turnips since my prices have been terrible for weeks. I was hoping for more variety from the T.I.Y Mart would have more variety, but they are still selling the basic tools which is just taking up space- I have better items then what they have on sale. I recently bought the players guide and there is a ton of content in the game, but waiting for it to become available is more of an endurance test than anything else.

Hi again. I am looking for classic and astro series furniture.

For classic I need:

clock
wall shelf
vanity
buffet
desk
carpet
wall

For astro I only have the TV and wall clock.

I have a lot of that stuff, but I don't think I have much of it on me. Once Nook opens I'll check my catalog and order whatever I have.

If you have the time and desire, that would be great. :)
If it'd be okay, I'd want to come to your town, as I don't want to have mine open as I'm going for a perfect town.

I just ordered a whole load of stuff, mostly astro with a few classic pieces. I should have it tomorrow, or at least most of it. I wasn't counting, so I may have ordered more things than can fit in my mailbox.

Is there any other good way to make a good reliable income in the game?
Turnips can make you lots of money if you luck out and find a sale price of 500+. They can be a bit of a gamble, however if you have a lot of towns to visit then you'll have good odds of finding a profitable price every week.

Turnips are indeed a gamble, one week I had nothing BUT prices lower than what I paid. So I couldn't make any profit. USUALLY you will be lucky to make 40 bells profit per turnip

Oh, okay. Thanks so much. Let me know when you are available, and I will come to your town.
I have your FC, yes? It's so hard to remember!

there is a pattern to turnip prices but in all honesty the island winds up murdering any practical use they have.

I now have both the classic police office and the fortune tellers tent up.  for some reason I seem to be getting alot more public works projects requested of me.  I now have some stone tablet, wind turbines and some other thing I have forgotten about

tbh with my loan, fortune shop, and police station all squared away  I'm considering dropping the bell boom ordinance and going for a perfect town.

I am looking to finish my kitchen area.

Okay, I've got everything. I have a lot going on tonight so why don't we plan to do this tomorrow evening/night? I think we're 3DS friends but I'll check and make sure.

EDIT: Yes, we are.

I just sell fossils and bugs.

Any of you guys want to add me? I love having visitors and traveling to other towns. My 3DS code is 4597-0176-3500.

Also, I'm only trying to add adults to my 3DS. I'm 28, and I think it's weird to have kids on my friend list.

PM me if you add me!

I think so.

What town name should I look for? And should I bring anything for you?

My name is J.P. in the town Insano. And you don't need to bring anything for me, but if you have anything in the Modern Wood or Sleek series lying around I'd appreciate it, but don't go out of your way for it.

No problem. My mom, grandma and myself were involved in a car accident when this jerk backed into us in a parking lot. I wasn't really thinking about games after that, so I'm glad you wanted to do another night.

K, thanks pokepal. I will try to be free when can.

Anybody who comes to my village, please dont chop down trees or damage the town in any way. Let me know what youd like. And feel free to donate to my public works project (at the moment it is the Reset Center).

oh Mr. Resetti is great in this game, i think tree house has decided to make his finishing quote a 'take that' to grammar nazis
Quote
When ya don't care 'bout somethin', ya "couldn't care less." If ya "could care less," that means ya still care.
It ain't that tough. "Couldn't care" means ya don't care. Stop carin' 'bout stuff ya don't care 'bout!

But pokepal I'm pretty sure I have a shave ice maker or whatever, I'll have a look tonight.

The Shaved-Ice Maker is a common item, you get it in the mail from your mom. After that, you can re-buy it from Nooks for only 300 bells.

We need to arrange a time to play, Pokepal. I've seen you online but it was never a time when I could open my gates. I've only been playing the game in 20-30 minute bursts a day due to other obligations.

I got an extra Kart and fire flower. I need a bunch of the nintendo stuff but I especially would like the parts of the link outfit. I have the shirt but need the rest.

I'm also trying to collect extra raptor fossils if anyone wants to share those. I added Tendoboy and Kraken. I need to add more people too. Let me know if you added me and I will add you back.

Because of the recent update I've gotten back into playing this game on a regular basis. I'd reset my town a while ago and made some progress at rebuilding it, but I still had a lot left to do, so it's nice to come back and start to finish that project.

My favorite thing about the update is the missions you can complete to earn coupons used to buy things in the new RV park. They're a nice little bit of structure that gives you set goals to complete on a daily and weekly basis, which is good to have at times in a game as open-ended as this.

I'm kind of interested in acquiring some of the Amiibo cards now. I'm not much of a collector, so I didn't think that much about them before, but now that they have a use I feel myself getting sucked into that whole aspect of it.

My sister got back into New Leaf because of the update and she has a bunch of the amiibo. I might go over and see what I can unlock with what she has. I have no intention of over collection AC figures beyond MAYBE Resetti.

I hear there is a cool survival island game like the one good part from Amibo Festival.

I started playing because of the update, found that I had rebooted my town nearly a year to the day and so I've begun the long hard road to rebuilding my house and town. I had bought a few packs of the Amiibo cards to see what they do and I've been happy with them. Normal townie cards give you the option for them to move in immediately or get a random gift. While they don't come along with their own RV, scanning the cards have been effective in getting residents to move in as well as getting Meow Coupons. I'm excited to see the new set of cards that will come out next month since those cards will have characters with RVs. I've checked out some of the cards and some of the characters display Wii U or 3DS systems so I suspect being able to get the systems could be easier if you don't have any Animal Crossing Amiibo figures. I have Link and Splatoon Amiibo and scanning them has been cool to get exclusive items, but they turned out to be lame characters so I had to move them out. Animal Crossing has been my happy safe place for the past couple of weeks.

Now that there's a new update and I have a 3DS that can read Amiibo and cards, I'm going to jump back into New Leaf soon! Hope my town is still to my liking! :)
