I too wonder if there's an intentionally handicapped character this time around.

I didn't think JP was very handicapped in 64, though. The infamous Jiggly combo of drill down followed by Up smash could KO all three players if you caught them with it.

I'll stick with Luigi. He's been my guy since the first game (and in most Mario Kart/Sports games). I'm going to do my best to perfect my abilities with Olimar, so we'll see.

I usually main Samus, but I like to cycle in Ness and Link. I'll probably stick to those 3 until I get a feel for the new characters. I'd like to give Olimar, Lucas and Dedede some practice time in particular.

Peach has been my primary main in Melee for some time (I personally have yet to find anyone who I can't pulverize with her in a 1-on-1), though I typically do a continuous cycle between her, Samus, Ness, Mario, Falco (sorry!), Bowser, and the Ice Climbers -- in roughly that order. I avoid Marth and Fox as a matter of principle.

Kirby was my main back in the SSB64 days, but I stopped using him when they severely nerfed him in Melee... I'm hoping Sakurai addressed that adequately for Brawl, since I love Kirby as a character. I think I'm also going to focus on learning how to use Pit and Olimar.

Hmm I don't know about maining anyone/thing just yet. I need to actually play the game until it clicks.
In melee I generally used Roy, Peach, and Ganondorf.

While I understand the fox/falco hate, it saddens me. I play as fox, my friend plays as link and we have some great fights. I used fox before I knew anything about tourny players and now everybody hates me. I really do hope that the heavy-weights are given a fair shot in brawl, but if I still like the way that fox plays I'm going to use him. Honestly, there are so many new characters that I want to try out (sonic, pit and olimar) as well as revamped old players that i'd like to feel out that I won't have a main character until a few weeks after I get the game. If it happens to be fox (or I hope wolf cause he looks bad ass) then that's cool with me, I just wish people wouldn't cry about it.

Well, Pikachu has been my main mouse since the original, and so I'll probably go straight for him again this time... but I'm going to see how I do with Pit, Metaknight, Rob and Olimar. Heck, I'm curious about all of the new characters, so they'll all get a fair shake from me.

Though, for real, it's tough to switch characters when you already know a character and their moves SO WELL (like me with the yellectric rodent)... gonna take some real dedication.

I do not have a main character. For Melee I usually played using a random character unless it landed on either Pichu or Mewtwo (God, I hate Mewtwo). Any other way means you're not playing the right way (my way).

I actually kind of liked Mewtwo in a way... I rarely used him myself, but his inherent "floatiness" just seemed awesome to me. It was always so hard to see what he was doing (to my mind), mainly because everything he did was so eerily graceful...

That said, I can't say I miss him too much now that he's gone. A little. Not much.

The first character I choose will be Pit and if history repeats itself, that character will be my choice character. Samus in the original and Zelda in Melee.

I plan on using mainly Pit, Zelda, Link, Snake, Samus, Peach and........Wario. I've waited almost 9 years to play as Wario in a Smash Bros. game, I'm damn well going to choose him, if only out of principle alone.

Olimar for my main. He was someone whom I wanted to be in the game from the announcement. I'm still unclear about how the pikmin work, though. Can you lose them and they stay lost until your next life begins? Or are they regenerative. Though I doubt the answer will have an effect on Olimar being my main.

And, off-topic, Rachtman, you're avatar makes me so nostalgic I want to cry and go back to 1999.

Pikmin are constantly lost through attacks, so you must regenerate them with Down+B...

Olimar, as far as I've seen is actually great. He's quick, he's got power, he's got range, and he's got pretty good recovery. The Pikmen take very little time to recover, and his biggest issue is if he gets knocked away with fewer Pikmen than normal, he'll be in trouble. That's his main weakness. His down+b calls them back quickly, so the real goal of Olimar's opponent is to strike when a Pikmen or two is down, and attack Olimar's recovery.
