The article and his quote phrase it as it meaning people looking for a Wii may choose a PS3 instead if they can't find one, but neither seems to realize that he's conceding the fact that Nintendo is going to sell every unit of the Wii that's out there, increasing its already huge sales lead, and not only does this not upset him, he's happy about it.

I'm sure Infinium Labs can help you out there.

TalkBack / RE: Wolfenstein, Quake, and Doom May Hit the DS
« on: November 15, 2007, 05:27:31 PM »
The subject of Quake Arena on the DS has come up before, with Carmack saying they'd probably dumb it down to Doom/Wolfenstein 3D level with no aiming up and down.

[semi-related complaint]Why did Nintendo stop packing in a thumb stylus strap with the DS? I've been able to save the one from my launch DS and kept it with me over the course of my 3 lites, but people who started with the lite don't have the best way to play FPS games on the DS without ordering one from Nintendo's online store.[/semi-related complaint]

You made up songs to Tecmo Bowl as well?

No, the Tecmo Bowl opening theme is one of the greatest game songs as it is and I wouldn't want to ruin it, I meant that part of why I bought Tecmo Bowl was to show it to my friend.

Not even for 10.4.11? Or this link for PPC.

How dare you insult a game that I don't really remember apart from the fact that my best friend and I spent many hours of our childhoods in his basement playing it on his brother's NES and getting destroyed until we switched back to SMB3 so we could make up stupid lyrics to that game's music?! You've got a lot of nerve! Seriously I'd pay 5 bucks for this on the VC just to be able to show it to that friend. I did the same thing with Tecmo Bowl, but I love playing that as well.

I picked this up tonight, but I had a hard time finding a copy. I went to Best Buy first and they didn't have the game, then I went across the street to GameStop and the guy didn't seem like he'd even heard of the game, but he checked the computer and they only had 1 copy.

Now of course I bought the game tonight, but I don't think I'll be able to spend much time with it until I've played through more of Galaxy.

They did ban DSs on flights for some Japanese airline but I don't think there has been any such ban on any American airline.

For every story like that there are hundreds and hundreds of people who upgraded with no problem and proceeded to complain endlessly about Stacks. With something as complex as a modern computer OS problems will happen from time to time. No operating system is perfect, not even one from Apple. As someone who regularly uses both Windows and OS X I vastly prefer the Mac. Sure it has problems, and it even really screws things up from time to time, but 99% of the time my biggest problem is that Quicksilver (one of the most useful free apps ever) unexpectedly quits often enough to be annoying, and that means less time trying to fix problems and more time doing what I want to do (which usually turns out to be nothing and I get bored. Maybe I should be hoping for more problems to give me something to do.)

EDIT: Yeah, what Mashiro said. He may not have very good taste in games, but he's right about this. In fact I'm taking his advice that he didn't follow himself, I'm waiting until 10.5.1 (coming real soon if Apple seeding a bug-free build to developers means what it usually does) or 10.5.2 before upgrading my MBP to Leopard.

My comment there was meant to be taken sarcastically (curse this text-based internet). GP's post made me think of the movie line that was semi-relevant so I stuck it in there. I really hope the fans of the show make as big a deal out of this as it should be. I'm surprised the executives are this bold, they have to know that when people know the reasons why the writers are striking they will take the writers' side and something like this is only going to push them further and faster in that direction.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Winter release logjam has GOT to stop...
« on: November 14, 2007, 12:40:45 PM »
Nintendo does seem to realize that it's possible to release big games outside the holiday rush (Super Paper Mario and Pokemon Diamond/Pearl in April, Metroid Prime 3 in August, Zelda: Phantom Hourglass on September 1st) but then they release BWii, Fire Emblem, and Galaxy in the span of 15 days. Galaxy would have sold well no matter when it was released, but the other two could have really benefited from a release at a time where there wasn't as much competition and spreading them out more would have allowed Nintendo to give them more of an advertising push.

At first this sounds insane, but they've been making them without humor since shortly after the show came back after the cancellation and that hasn't seemed to hurt its popularity.

I'd love to work in an Apple Store, I've been a Mac user for 11 years, since before OS X, since before the first iMac, and even predating the Second Coming of Jobs, and I've been obsessed with them the whole time, but Apple seems to be toying with me by building tons of them but making sure the closest one to me is still 2 hours away.

We were never getting RE5. There's a lot of circumstantial evidence piling up that we're getting a remade RE2 with the Wii controls. As someone who rented the REmake and hated it because of the controls and didn't get into the series until RE4Wii because everyone wouldn't shut up about how awesome it was I welcome this, but I'm sure longtime fans probably don't like that prospect. A big part of why I'm interested in UC is my desire to learn more of the backstory of the series, which seems intriguing, albeit poorly written, so the ability to play through what seems to be the consensus pick for best pre-4 RE game with controls that don't feel like they should be banned by the Geneva Convention for use when interrogating prisoners sounds good to me.

I can't help but smile when I'm playing this game, it's such an unbelievable experience. There's only one other game that does that to me, Super Mario Bros. 3, and I consider that game the greatest ever made.  It's a game that got a huge amount of hype leading up to released and somehow manages to live up to all of it and then some.

The release date was the 13th, so it most likely won't be in stores until later today. I am most likely going to pick this game up, but not until after I've spent some time with Galaxy. There are quite a few games I'm interested that have 11/13 dates, I don't understand why these companies decided to go up against the biggest Wii game of the year like that.

Yeah AoE DS is great, possibly even better than Advance Wars. I kept checking the official forums and once they figured out what was bricking the games (user names under 4 characters long) I bought another copy. I haven't gotten too far into it, but that's true of all my games. I hope I find the time to go back and play more of it someday, because it's one of my two absolute favorite portable strategy games that weren't made by Intelligent Systems.

lol no

Actually now that I think about it they do, or at least I've gotten one before. It was Age of Empires DS, I bricked 2 copies back before they figured out why they were bricking and I got a refund. Though I'm pretty sure I got it from one of the guys there that I know well and is pretty cool. So just to be safe I'm hoping he's working tomorrow.

EDIT: ShyGuy, I did what you said and it worked! Thanks!

Well I picked up my copy a few hours ago and just now had the time to sit down and start playing, and it doesn't work. I put the disc in and it doesn't register and the disc channel icon remained blank. I tried several times and still nothing, and I put BWii back in and it still worked so it has to be the disc. Unfortunately it's too late and the store's closed now so I have to wait another day to play. GameStop will give you a refund if you return a defective game and they don't have another copy, right? It's bad enough having to wait another day, I'd better not have to wait more than that.

AAC is a better codec than MP3, it gives better sound quality at lower file sizes than MP3. That said, despite its advantages, AAC is nowhere near as popular as MP3 and it seems insane to replace MP3 when they could just support both.

TalkBack / RE: EDITORIALS: Price Break: The Future of Game Prices
« on: November 09, 2007, 11:56:08 PM »
Downloadable content can be a very good thing, but there's a fine line between adding new content and taking the customer for everything they've got with tons of microtransactions. One positive of the fact that Nintendo doesn't have the infrastructure for stuff like that is that the $50 Wii version of Madden includes quite a bit of content that the $60 360 Madden requires you to pay extra for.

As I look at my list of games I'd like to buy I see quite a few at lower than normal prices. Some, like the $20 for Namco Museum DS, turn a probable purchase into a definite one. Most of the Wii games, though, drop from $50 to $40, which usually isn't going to do much to sway my purchasing decision. Somebody needs to tell these people that while $40 may be a budget price on the PS3 or the 360, if you want to get people's attention on the Wii you need to go $30 or lower.

Also, I'd like to say that I'm enjoying these editorials we've been seeing lately. It has been mentioned that it is sometimes hard to come up with Community Hot Topic subjects, and I think that since these editorials usually spark good conversations with a lot of people expressing their opinions on the matter, it might be a good idea to, when one of these is written, use it also as the Hot Topic.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Your Revolution game ideas HERE!

Developers usually spend too much time trying to adapt the Wii controls to a game without considering trying to adapt the game to the controls. The Pikmin games on the GameCube are great examples of how adapting the game to the controls can work spectacularly. Conventional wisdom was that RTS controls sucked on consoles, so Nintendo changed the RTS formula in a way that made the console controller ideal.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Miyamoto tells me to wait five years...
« on: November 09, 2007, 09:19:29 PM »
The only thing he got right was that MySims isn't a real Sims game. Miyamoto's not helping Maxis, Maxis isn't making The Sims 3 right now, they're making Spore, he's not making another game like Wii Sports and Wii Fit, those games aren't crappy, and Nintendo doesn't need to start making some real games because they've already made quite a few and seem to be continuing to do so.
