Mine should be obvious but it wouldn't be of any use, I have no games on Steam that I'd want to play online (or at all for that matter).

I'll ask here too, how does Steam work - can I play DOOM against someone who downloaded it from Steam?

I only have Halflife 2 and the games that are associated with it. But I just may pick up that ID super pack. I wonder if I can get them to work with my 360 controller...
Title: Re: Steam ID Rollcall
Post by: bustin98 on September 07, 2008, 03:41:21 PM
Cause I type on a keyboard all damn day and I get sick and tired of it.

I just put together a HTPC and have it connected to my HDTV. I just started playing FEAR with the pad and already I'm more 'into' it than before. Its a little wonky cause it doesn't translate the little push of the stick as walking but rather running slowly. Had to turn off the head bobbing.

Anyway, yeah, the more I can treat my PC as an extension of my 360, the more PC games I'm likely to play.

Enner (http://steamcommunity.com/id/enner)

Really though, save yourself the headache that is Steam and obtain the games through other methods. It's bad enough that you have to use Steam for newer Valve games.

Steam seems to work pretty well and without a hitch these days. Well, at least I don't hear as many complaints as I did when it first launched. Also, I like all the community things the service has. Though, I have heard that things can get wonky with the in-game Steam dashboard sometimes.

Just wanted to point out that apparently NWR has a public Steam group.  None of the people who have posted in this thread are currently a part of it.  (This includes Silks, which is funny because I learned of the group from a recent episode of RFN.)

Windy probably mentioned it to me, I regurgitated it on the podcast, and then forgot to actually join.  I have Windy, Jonny, and Ty on my friends list, though.

I cleaned up this thread and stickied it as an official user id roll call thread.  That means it should be limited to your IDs and possible technical discussion of creating/using an account.  Do not turn this into another privacy rant.  I'm talking to you Morari.

Steam has the Rockstar Games bundle for 50% off this weekend.  You can get all 5 PC GTAs, Manhunt, a couple Max Paynes and a few other games for $30.

I may break down and finally pick up San Andreas for $10; haven't decided yet.

In celebration of its tenth anniversary, Half-Life is only $0.98 on Steam.  If you've somehow been living under a rock for the past decade, you should pick this up, as it's still one of the best FPS ever.  Deal good through Friday at noon (PST).

Damn, always late to the party, but I'm already used to it. The worst thing, I've been using steam for a long, long time, but never thought of checking the "non-nintendo games" forums.

So, id tag is mantidor as well.

Also, any recommendations? I'm going to try this left4dead demo.

Windy should make me the NWR steam group boss so I can call TF2 and L4D events and he's never on and a scrub with only 28 hours of TF2 time and 0 hours of L4D time. You saw it here first!

edit: I guess the data was wrong or I was looking at the wrong thing because windy has 928743927 hours of tf2. But still 0 for L4D :]

I was excited but the season promotions but still I can't get bioshock, so I have to say, f!ck you stupid 2K, because I'm tired of trying the legal way, is obvious you, and a lot of god damn dumb publishers just don't like money, with the treatment you give to latinamerica and I'm more and more convinced torrenting is the only way to go around here. I'm still trying to find Ninja Gaiden and Order of Ecclesia while basically everyone I know is already playing it in their R4, seriously what the hell?

Someone already took my name apparently. Odd because I didn't think many people would think of it. I looked up the word and there are a lot of things I didn't know it referred to. Now I feel less unique...might change it.

A friend said he'd gift me Half-Life 2 for a belated b-day gift if I set up an account. Apparently I already had one back in the day because it pulled an old handle of mine.

Some friend ....

I'm guessing your friend just picked up the weekend deal (The Orange Box for only $9.99) and now has an extra copy of Half-Life 2.  If you buy a game as part of a package on Steam and you already own the game, you get a second copy that you can gift to a friend.

I'm sorry, I meant to say he got me the whole Orange Box. He even told me it was because of the deal that he was getting it for me since I told him I was too tight on money to grab the deal when he called me to let me know about it. He is a good and generous friend, one of my closest. I'm telling him to join the NWR forum. He listens to the podcast I believe so he may join up.

I really, REALLY want L4D but my laptop supposedly won't be able to run it. I do go to an internet cafe from time to time in the local Super Mall and play it with this same friend.

I hate that Steam should be making demo's easier accessible for those of us who aren't sure if a game will run or not.

Easier than giving away time-limited versions of the full game to download? Seriously, that's what the system requirements are for. So long as you're not below the minimum requirements, you know the game will run in some capacity or another.

There used to be a L4D demo.  I played it.  I wonder why they took it down?

Not quite.  My PC should be able to run Bioshock, but it doesn't.  It doesn't like my ATI video card.

Well, that's probably because ATI video cards tend to be junk. I gave up on the company when the last one I had caused all kinds of odd driver conflicts and another's fan stopped, overheated, and literally melted. On the flip side, I've never had a single problem with any of the nVidia cards I've had.
Title: Re: Steam ID Rollcall
Post by: vudu on April 27, 2009, 04:23:37 PM
True that.  Only reason I went with ATI is because Valve likes 'em (at least they did a few years ago).  Plus, it came with a free copy of Half-Life 2!  ;D
Title: Re: Steam ID Rollcall
Post by: KnowsNothing on April 27, 2009, 04:55:57 PM
I'd say right now ATI is putting out the best selection of cards.  The HD 4850 has one of the best price/performance ratios I've seen in a while.  Obviously your choice in card depends on how you intend to use it, but for the average gamer on a modest resolution (around 1680*1050) I think ATI has nVidia beat.

For now, at least.  It keeps flippity floppiting.

Ya but you NEVER know what the case will be if you have an un common CPU/Graphics type.  I run an overclocked Intel Atom. Those aren't coming up in to many minimum requirement charts...

L4D Freaky Free Friday Coming on Steam
April 29, 2009, 4:25 pm - Valve - General Announcement

Beginning Friday at 12:01 am GMT, the PC version of Left 4 Dead will be available for a free 24-hour trial via Steam. The free trial will include access to the recently released Survival Pack DLC, which introduces a new multiplayer game mode and two additional Versus campaigns. Those who wish to give L4D and the Survival Pack a try may now pre-load (http://steam://preload/500) everything needed to play with no obligation to purchase.

Ive seen the game, watched it played , but never played it myself. I've heard nothing but good things about this game, so I know I will be giving it a shot this Friday.

I've played it in cyber cafes with a friend. My laptop is below minimun specs so I don't want to get in until I either know it would run anyway or can get a new computer. Mine can run orange box just fine so I'm going to try the demo and if it works then I will be a happy camper, the only matter to solve is money to buy the full game and getting a steady internet connection.

I have got Killing Floor (Mac). Solid game with some GFX glitchs. Fun as hell.

TF2 (Mac). Would like to play it more if not the fact it causes kernel  panics like a schizophrenic retard on meth. Some updates it will be  good, while others would create a nasty mess mid game or a little after  exit.

L4D2 (PC). Would play more if I didn't have to reboot to play. Hopefully the Mac release is more stable than TF2.

There's the option to register your game with Steam, but it only allows you to load the game through the Steam interface.  I don't think you can download it to any other Steam computer or anything like that.

But give it a shot--on the bottom of the Games Library window there's an option to "add a game".  Click it.

Yeah thats all and in some games you can use the Steam interface while in the games too. But other than that you need to keep your D2D info and files and what not.

And BlackNMild please set up your profile so I can go too it.: This user has not yet set up their Steam Community profile. If you know them encourage him/her to set up their profile and join in on the gaming!
Title: Re: Steam ID Rollcall
Post by: MoronSonOfBoron on June 27, 2010, 05:38:53 PM
Steam and D2D are two entirely different services. While Steam does allow non-Steam games and applications to be launched through its Library as shortcuts, and their use of the Steam in-game overlay, that does not make them "Steam games". If a non-Steam game purchased from retail or downloaded from another service doesn't explicitly have Steam support, I highly doubt it will be covered by Steam services (e.g. portable installation, retroactive multiplatform support). From what I understand, D2D games are more-or-less stand-alone, and any product purchased through that service will be managed by D2D and subject to D2D's terms of business.

So yes, Library > Games > Add Non-Steam Game if you want them all in one neat list. If the D2D games don't have some kind of launcher/service wrapper like Steam games do, you should be fine to run them from the Steam Library.

RockyRoad15. I don't have a huge selection of online games on my Steam account... just Day of Defeat: Source and Left 4 Dead, and maybe Company of Heroes, if I ever get round to installing it.

Scratch that, I now own Left 4 Dead 2. It dropped down to a £5 pittance yesterday and I figured that for that much, yeah, go for it.

It's worth mentioning that you don't need to purchase a Steam game for your free Steam account as there are a few free games to play. Some that stick out for me are:
Alien Swarm (http://store.steampowered.com/app/630/) - A top-down co-op shooter.
TrackMania Nations Forever (http://store.steampowered.com/app/11020/) - A time-trial focused racing game where there is no contact with opponent cars.

Even if you're not interested in Steam games, there are quite a lot of community features including chat rooms for Steam groups. Though, I can see how alternatives like IRC or Skype can be more useful.

Steam Id = Sundoulos, of course.  Picked up some co-op games, such as Left for Dead 2, Resident Evil 5 and Portal 2 recently.  I wouldn't mind trying them out sometime.

This steam group (http://steamcommunity.com/groups/nintendoworldreport) contains most of the NWR forum goers or search for Nintendo World Report on steam. from there you can join and add friends with far less hassle.

So I found the group....which was harder then it should have been.

Name is Mechonis Did Nothing Wrong but I change that frequently (might change it back to my screen name on here like it was originally). I play TF2 only at the moment, but will get other games......eventually.

The only case I'll ask you something as a friend is if my team in MvM is going to hell in a hog cart. Otherwise, I won't ask much.
