TalkBack / Re: Nintendo President Missing E3

I'm genuinely curious if the Nintendo rep used the "Please understand" statement in an ironic manner.

Good news. Hope this turns out well since I loved the old NES game. Plus modern day baseball games like The Show on PS3 have become too sim-like for my taste. Don't necessarily want an over-the-top baseball game like The Bigs, I just want a good baseball game that remembers it's still a video game.

TalkBack / Re: New Game Card Cases Reward in Club Nintendo
« on: January 15, 2014, 10:44:58 PM »
Glad to see this coming back. I was lucky enough to snag one (ended up buying a second case on eBay as well) when they were first offered as Club Nintendo rewards. Think I might just have to pick up one more now that they're back.

Very cool. Guess I'll be making a trip up the street to my local Barnes and Noble that weekend.

TalkBack / Re: 3D Sonic the Hedgehog Review Mini
« on: December 10, 2013, 01:35:09 PM »
I've always felt the Sonic games were greatly flawed in concept--encourage me to run fast, while at the same time making me stop every few seconds with arbitrary enemy placement and platforming--yet I've always enjoyed playing them (at least Sonic's 2D efforts), mostly because of the great artwork, bright colors, and catchy tunes. I'm glad to see some effort went into giving consumers a great emulated, slightly updated version of the Genesis classic. I certainly don't mind dropping a few bucks to have a portable version of the classic 2D Sonic games, as long as they're receiving the proper treatment as this one did. Here's hoping we eventually get Sonic 2, 3, and Sonic & Knuckles as well.  :)

TalkBack / Re: Super Nintendo Headed to 3DS VC?
« on: December 10, 2013, 01:21:40 PM »
Maybe I'm being overly optimistic, but I think both cross-buy and SNES VC games on the 3DS (as well as GBA games) will be a reality in the future. The only question is when and why is it taking so damn long for Nintendo to implement this.

TalkBack / Re: 3DS System Update 7.0 Released
« on: December 10, 2013, 12:52:56 PM »
Successfully updated my 3DS earlier this morning to incorporate MiiVerse. I don't own a Wii U just yet (planning on changing that soon though), so it was kind of cool to be able to finally participate in MiiVerse. However, I'm kind of annoyed that you can't use the friend request or message feature in the 3DS version like you apparently can on the Wii U. Why would they not include that I wonder? Anyway, it's definitely a step in the right direction.  :)

Oh and yeah, I also cannot access the eShop atm, but it's good to hear that no one else can either. I thought maybe I had screwed something up after I did the update; Hope the eShop is back up by this evening.

TalkBack / Re: LEGO Marvel Super Heroes: Universe in Peril Review
« on: December 08, 2013, 08:47:17 PM »
Now this review I totally agree with (unlike the ridiculously low score that was given to the Wii U version).  The game basically suffers from many of the same flaws that we saw with last year's Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes when comparing the console version to the vastly different and underwhelming handheld version. It's a shame the handheld game is so inferior to it's console counterpart.

TalkBack / Re: LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Review
« on: December 08, 2013, 08:40:46 PM »
I HIGHLY disagree with this review. Almost every other mainstream video game website/magazine has given this game very high praise, and after spending some time with Lego Marvel Super Heroes I agree. Granted the Wii U specific features regarding the gamepad are not nearly as polished as Lego City Undercover. However, that aside, this may be my favorite licensed Lego game ever (even after being impressed with last year's Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes). Metacritic currently has Lego Marvel Super Heroes at 80, with the game receiving very high praise from:
Game Informer: 9.0
IGN: 9.0
Game Trailers: 8.7
EGM: 9.0
among others.

I'm by no means saying this is GOTY material by any stretch, but a 5.5 is an ridiculously absurd score. Unless you're someone who is just totally over Lego games in general, this is an absolute must buy for fans of Lego games and/or Marvel comics.

It's not nice to hear that I'm not the only one who has a love/hate relationship with my fellow nerds (or closet nerds). Granted I tend to stay clear of comic shops for reasons of my own, however I am a frequent visitor of both my local Gamestop, and a great little "Mom and Pop" used game shop that's close by. Some visits are great, with other "normal" adults who simply love video games that I enjoy conversing with. Then there are those visits when my stay ends up getting cut drastically short...usually due to the overly obnoxious, uber-nerd who thinks he or she knows EVERYTHING about ANYTHING.

I really hope this game turns out well. Good to hear that early impressions seem to be positive. I've always thought the Shantae games look beautiful, even if I had a few issues with the gameplay.

Glad to see Duck Tales receive a good score. I was a little worried for it after hearing some early complaints from multiple gaming websites.

TalkBack / Re: E3 Demos Playable at Best Buy
« on: May 17, 2013, 01:55:03 PM »
While I agree that there should definitely be demos made available on the eShop, I think this is a smart move by Nintendo to try and reign in new potential buyers who will be shopping/browsing at Best Buy stores throughout the week of E3.

Great review. Even though I do own the Wii game, I'm picking this up for the extra levels and waggle-free control. I actually like that they've included an easier mode as well so maybe my younger nephews and nieces can actually enjoy the game now.

TalkBack / Re: Punch-Out!! Review Mini
« on: May 06, 2013, 10:59:18 PM »
Actually, there IS a different between them. Not a huge one, but it's not a simple palette swap.
Dude, the only difference is the palette swap of Tyson/Dream, and a slightly different intro screen (since Tyson is obviously not in the Mr Dream version). That's it. I've been religiously playing/speed running this game for past 25 years. You don't know what you're talking about.

Is that with Mike Tyson or Mr. Dream?
Either, it's the exact same fighter, just reskinned (see what I did there) to look like a generic white dude. There's absolutely no difference in the fighting style, pattern, or brutal difficulty.

But to answer your question I've done it with both numerous times since I own both the Mr. Dream version on VC and the original NES cartridge with Tyson.

Punch-Out!! is a true classic, and one of my absolute favorite games of all time. It's one of those games I still enjoy speed running through every once in awhile to this day. My best time is 29 minutes by the way.  :P:

TalkBack / Re: No Conference? No Problem!
« on: April 25, 2013, 11:41:29 AM »
I totally agree. While some people were freaking out over this on NWR, as well as other video game websites, I felt this was the smart move. And to be honest I'd rather have Nintendo news/updates strung out over a year via Nintendo Direct or whatever, as apposed to some over-hyped, once a year, press conference that gamers almost always end up being let down by.

So glad this is FINALLY coming to the VC. Earthbound has always been one of those "Holy Grail" games that I have heard so many good things about over the years, without ever having seen or played it for myself.

TalkBack / Re: Castlevania Review Mini
« on: April 12, 2013, 11:52:29 PM »
While I agree with the comment about arcade games, it's a moot point since NES Castlevania is well...not an arcade game. And yes games were generally more difficult due to the fact that the technology did not allow for a 20 or 30 hour experience like it does today. My point is that any fan of classic games knows there are a ton of cheap, ridiculously hard games on the NES. Just watch any episode of the Angry Video Game Nerd to see that. But putting a classic gem like Castlevania in the same camp as something like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Top Gun, or Friday the 13th is simply ludicrous. Even though I like a game like say, Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest, I'd be more understanding about someone not liking it today because of it's overly cryptic puzzles. What about something like Castlevania 3? Because it's basically the same challenging experience but with more characters and multiple paths.
Oh and Metroid IS still a great game. But I will admit if I were recommending it to someone for the first time, I'd probably direct him or her to the superior remake, Zero Mission. But that wouldn't take away from the fact that the original NES Metroid is still a classic in its own right.

Yeesh, a 5/10 for one of the greatest, old school, 8-bit NES classics because you think it's ugly and too hard...wow. Let me guess, you're too young to remember (and appreciate) the glory days of 8-bit gaming I take it. I suppose other classic Nintendo games like Ninja Gaiden, Mega Man, Kid Icarus, and Metroid look "horrible" and are too difficult as well huh?

TalkBack / Re: Retiring the Wii
« on: November 18, 2012, 10:06:54 PM »
I am really considering just moving my Wii to another TV and not transferring anything.  I am not sure there are any advantages for me in having everything on 1 system.  So until they make the games playable on the game pad I will leave things as they are.

Yeah that has always been my plan from the start. My Wii along with my Wii retail games and VC titles are staying in my office along with my older 4:3 flat screen. The Wii U (when I get around to picking one up) is going in the living room to be played on my main LED that can actually take advantage of 1080p HD content.

Wow that's ironic; I was just about to download this game the other day with some left over Wii points I still had. Glad I held off. Now I can get it for F.R.E.E.!!  :D

TalkBack / Re: Nintendo Power Set to Stop Publication
« on: August 21, 2012, 08:17:03 PM »
I can guarantee you that no one is more upset by this than me. I was a HUGE NP fan as a kid. I had a subscription from 89 until about 94 or 95, then decided out of the blue to start subscribing back around 2008. Sure at 33 years of age now, I always felt a little funny about subscribing but what can I say, the nostalgia simply overwhelmed me. Nintendo Power was the only physical magazine that I still had delivered to me house via snail mail (I've long gone digital with everything else for years now). But this is such a huge disappointment. Sure I figured Nintendo Power would eventually go digital, but I never thought they would just up and call it quits. Then again I can understand Future US's position as having a "difficult time" coming to terms with Nintendo. My hats off to Chris Hoffman, Phil Theobald, Steve Thomason, Cody Martin, Justin Cheng and especially NP's EIC, Christ Slate for all their hard works over these last few years. I hope they all land on their feet (sounds like some of them will immediately) soon. I actually have a rather sizeable collection of Nintendo Power's from over the years. Glad I held onto them all now.
