Wii U Firmware 5.5 Released
« on: August 17, 2015, 01:39:04 PM »

And TVii goes off the air for good.

A new system menu update has launched for the Wii U.

The most noticeable change in the update is the removal of the TVii icon following the service's discontinuation last week, according to the update's patch notes, though the usual "improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience".

After hearing it on the Giant Beastcast, I do wonder how much money was invested in to Nintendo TVii. I naively assume it was very little due to how poor the service was, but maybe it cost a lot to build and maintain the damn thing.

The irony of the whole thing is that making TVii actually responsive was all that service really needed.   I had fun with it when it worked.

I honestly would buy a tablet and an app for pretty much the exact same thing but actually responsive.

I would have been happy to use TVii because it was a great idea, the problem was that I could never get it to actually recognize my TV.

It had some great potential, (if they used it properly), I'm glad it's gone, but I still wish they could have made it work like I was hoping it should have.

I never once opened that app.

I'm pretty sure I opened it exactly once.

I opened it a few times and was trying to decide if I liked it and would use it while watching sports...then I canceled Cable and went strictly Netflix/Hulu Plus. Then there was no need/use for it and I never again opened it.
