The mystery of the sixth DLC fighter for Smash will be solved shortly.
A presentation will air Thursday (January 16) at 9 a.m. ET / 6 a.m. PT / 1500 CET to announce the final fighter in the first wave of DLC. The presentation will be 35 minutes long, similar to the length of the presentation for Terry Bogard.

Definitely curious to find out who the last character is. Yet, at this point, I'm really not campaigning for anyone. There's no third party character or specific series whose exclusion for Smash at this point feels like much of a missed opportunity. Not Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Ratchet and Clank, Scorpion, Chrono, Geno, Halo or any other O franchise or character you can think of. Still, if Sakurai doesn't care about trying to include some other long time franchise like Tekken or Mortal Kombat with the third party character, I'd love to see another off the wall character like Piranha Plant. Maybe the Prince from Katamari Damacy could bring some more crazy to the party.

There are many Nintendo Characters that I would like to see added, but I kinda want to wait for the Nintendo franchise characters to be added in the second wave of DLC. 3rd party characters are harder to guess. Characters I thought they might go with like Tails and such are not included and don't seem big enough to be a DLC character.
I think I would like to see an Advance Wars character as the final DLC. I know that is technically a Nintendo franchise so that should go into my second wave of DLC, but Advance Wars is under-represented and it could be a strange character with calling troops to battle for him. much like Pokemon trainer.

While I'm not gonna hold my breath for my top pick, Professor Layton, I'm pretty excited to finally find out. There's been soooo much speculation and the consensus (if you can call it that) seems to be pooling around Dante, Minecraft Steve, and Doom Slayer, with Dante having the strongest surge before the announcement and Crash Bandicoot surging afterwards because of the picture of Sakurai, though that may be people joking.
The fact that he's doing a full reveal and announcement with no surprise trailer during a Nintendo Direct makes me think the character is special to Sakurai. He seemed to regret the Terry trailer was released without the game footage for the reveal, so he wants to reveal everything together.
Or it could be that Nintendo just wanted to give big franchises their space in January before a February direct to hype the rest of the year (read: Animal Crossing).

Or it could be that the character is basically ready and will be released this week so, they are showing everything.

I love the hype surrounding this, and Sakurai and the team have done such a good job with throwing out so many other unexpected characters that now even the unexpected are expected! It could be just about any videogame character and that’s what makes this and the franchise so special and exciting!
I’ve read the most popular guesses and I’m expecting one of those or a Monster Hunter character. Personally I hope not though and I’d love to see Sora, Phoenix Wright, Professor Layton, Conker or Sephiroth.
