Post by: the_dan_x on January 17, 2013, 03:42:21 PM

More retail games go digital in Japan!

EX Troopers and Rune Factory 4 for the Nintendo 3DS will see digital releases on the eShop on January 24 in Japan.

EX Troopers was originally released in Japan on November 22 for 5,990 yen, while Rune Factory 4 was released last summer on July 19 for 5,229 yen. The digital versions of the titles will be a little bit cheaper, with EX Troopers going for 5,300 yen and Rune Factory selling for 5,220 yen.

There is currently no official information about if or when these titles will be released outside Japan.

So Rune Factory 4 will be a whopping $0.10 cheaper on the eShop. LOL

I would definitely buy both of these games if they came out on the eShop in North America.

And I bet that the quoted retail price wasn't actually what most stores charged when it came out. If it's anything like here in the UK, stores will sell it at about 85% of the RRP at release. So it's likely that it'll be more expensive on the eShop, same as everywhere else.

In the US things are usually sold at MSRP, so if you're buying games on the eShop you're paying about the same as you would at retail give or take a few cents.

Like FreudianLemur said, things in Japan typically go for well under the retail price. For example, I found EX Troopers for about 1,000 yen less than the retail price.

Oh, and I chuckled at the whole 9 yen off for the eShop version of Rune Factory 4. Lolololol!

I don't have a 3DS so call me stupid for this question but:

In the 3DS/eShop lifetime, have any games ever been pulled off the virtual shelf?

If RF4 ever comes out in the US, I want to pick it up when I eventually get a 3DS.

3DS? No. Though we the Wii has had Virtual Console and WiiWare games pulled.

Thank you, hopefully it won't happen.

When I saw Rune Factory 4 I thought it was for NA...nope....
Maybe they are giving fans/or other time to buy a 3DS that's why there's no release date yet.

At least I hope  :'(

it's not like the 3DS isn't selling well enough though, right? I don't have one, but if I did and RF4 was released, it'd be the type of game that I get day 1 and I wouldn't mind it being digital only (though I normally prefer physical copies).
