When you buy a Wii game on the eShop, it downloads to the Wii U memory. But does it also save there, or does it save to the Wii Mode memory like a disc-based Wii game would? I'm asking because I want to be able to move my save games to the SD card so I can continue a Skyward Sword game on a Wii after starting it on my Wii U with the eShop version.

You can transfer your save data to an SD card, which allows you to move it between the Wii U and a Wii console. This means you can start a game on your Wii U and then continue it on a Wii by transferring the save file.
