Nintendo is on a trailer-releasing spree as they followed up yesterday's Metroid: Other M trailer with a brand new Super Mario Galaxy 2 trailer that shows off a new rock power-up and the new world map.

The trailer shows off the Rock Mario power-up, where Mario rolls up into a ball and zooms around levels. You can do everything from launch off ramps and knock over enemies in a 10-pin bowling formation.

The new world map is also revealed, and features a planetoid spaceship in the shape of Mario's head that looks like it will serve as his means of transportation throughout his next adventure.

There's also appearances by the Fire Flower, Bee, and Boo power-ups, and a new Yoshi power-up that looks like it makes him lighter.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 is due out on May 23.

you missed the Xenoblade trailer that was released yesterday too. I didn't find a HQ version of it, but it's in the thread for that game.

Wasn't that a Japanese-only trailer? Not saying it doesn't matter (we should get it up and make an article and stuff), but that's why we don't have it up yet.

Anyway, my excitement for this game is way high. Can't wait. I'll be able to drown my jobless post-graduate tears with this game.

Yeah it was all in Japanese, and the quality of the one I linked to wasn't so hot.

But back on topic, I've already got SMG2 pre-ordered so I should have this one on Day 1 since I had to pay for shipping too.

Hopefully they don't bring back that awful Spring Suit, I don't think anyone like it. It was almost impossible to control Mario in it, and it's usefulness was extremely limited.

The spring suit was my favorite after Bee and Ice. It was hilarious looking. And if you need help controlling Mario, try NOT pushing a direction.

Minor gripe: I'm a little disappointed that the snippet of the world map shown looks as linear and unimaginative as it did in NSMBW. (I hope I'm wrong about that assumption.) Aside from that, the game looks pretty awesome. I can't wait; I guess it may be the last 3D Mario that we'll see for a while.

(P.S. - In regards to the question upthread about the game's price, both Walmart and Amazon are still running a pretty good deal on SMG2 preorders. Walmart is offering $20 gift card, and Amazon is offering a $20 game credit on a future purchase.)

Super Mario Galaxy has been my "in-between" game in that in between other games I'll have times where I go back to it and play it for a few days. I still haven't beat it. It's getting chipped away bit by bit.

Though I've realized the NSMB Wii is the only Mario platformer I've ever beat. I kind of suck at platformers. Love 'em but I suck at 'em.

I agree that the world map is boring, but it looks like a fun game. I like that it's a full game spawned from ideas they couldn't fit in before. I played the last two Wii Mario games to death, so this should be a no-brainer.

World maps were never imaginative in the Mario games, ever.

I always liked Super Mario World's. All the other games are very obvious about what world you're in. Each world has its own map. But with SMW you had this one big map and they were all connected. And you didn't know which path would open up based on how you beat the level. And then you have Star Road which would let you jump to all sorts of places. With every other game it just hits you over the head in such an obvious way. "This is world 5 and everything you see here is part of world 5 and if you find a secret level it will also be part of world 5." Super Mario World was more subtle. The world's weren't even equal size if you just went through the "normal" way. I remember after beating the Vanilla Dome castle there were only two levels until you reached the next castle if you took the normal path. Almost all of the Cookie Mountain/Cheese Bridge area was secret levels. And the way everything connected made it look like a cohesive world. Most Mario games each area just looks like some floating rectangle of land.
