I loved the demo and I'm a huge Disney fan so this is still a purchase for me. Neal's complaints are a little concerning since I usually agree with his reviews (with the exception of Dillon's Rolling Western, I freaking love that game!)
The game almost sounds too short to warrant a $40 price tag, so I'll probably try to pounce on one of those black friday deals.
Thank you Neal for the timely and well written review.

yeah that opening cut scene was pretty bad, and the first level started out slow, but once I got to the Jolly Rogger and had my powers and sketches the gameplay felt really solid.
It's not a fast past platformer like Mario, but with all the added game mechanics I don't really want it to be.
Having the ability to choose which skills you upgrade and picking what sketches you take into each level should add a lot of variety to how you play.

The Power of Illusion demo was a ton of fun, I'll for sure be picking this up day one. It was a pretty lengthy demo as well clocking in at just under a hour. Doing the side quests for the toons and being able to upgrade your stats at Scrooge's shop seems like it will add a lot of extra depth to the experience.

I'm very hyped for this game. I wasn't the biggest castle of illusion fan, but I am a big Peter Ong fan. Plus the new mechanics look like they'll add a lot to the experience.

Hey Nintendo, who would have thought that having sales on downloadable games works.
This will be the third game I've purchased in as many weeks.

I hope the whole game is a 2d platformer that takes place in classic Disney cartoons, though I would want them to offer more of challenge then those 2d levels in the original game. Plus I want the the paint and thinner mechanics to be included.

Epic Mickey was one of my favorite games of 2010, I would buy both the Wii and 3DS versions of EM2 if this turns out to be true. I can't wait for the reveal on Thursday!

a couple of episodes back you were saying the 3DS wont play music when it is closed.  Will it play music through headphones if the 3DS is closed?

Great pod BTW, You guys are making the wait for PilotWings unbearable.

Hey Neal with people complaining about Pilot Wings and Steel Diver being short on content, do think Nintendo would ever release DLC missions for either of these games? Seeing how these games don't have any Wifi connection, is it even technically possible?

No.

I'd love to be surprised and have Nintendo have the hooks in these games for it, but I don't think they put them in. It's kind of a bummer.

Yeah that's kinda what I figured. I'm interested in both games but will probably wait for a price drop.  Great review BTW!

I used DKCR as an example due to the recent interviews and GDC panel where they have been discussing the difficulties involved with creating the game  in texas and japan, using things like video conferencing and so on.

Maybe the DS version would be a better choice if I'm looking for side scrolling action.

wasn't that interested until I read side-scrolling, I'm a sucker for side-scrolling platforming. Now I have to give it a try, what percentage of the game would you say is side-scrolling?  Good review by the way.

Richard (@RichardR), a very lucky gamer has got some hands-on time with a retail unit of the 3DS with the help of a manager at GAME and has leaked the first details about the two StreetPass-based games built into the operating system. The games themselves are known as StreetPass Quest and StreetPass Puzzle.

StreetPass Quest begins with your Mii trapped in a tower. To escape, you must use Miis you have collected via StreetPass and battle increasingly powerful enemies in turn-based combat. If you haven’t collected any Miis then you’re able to purchase a cat in armour to act as a substitute. You purchase this cat with two game coins, which have been previously detailed. The cat has two attack options: sword and magic.
Richard guesstimated that there were about 16-32 different levels you could work your way through and you’ll need to battle with each enemy about 2-3 times to match their power. You can fight your way through the game with up to three Miis at a time. Failed attempts at rescuing your Mii from the tower are met with details about enemies you have defeated and the remaining health of enemies who you’ve tried to take on but failed to take down, so it sounds like this quest will require an investment over time, rather than just a single sitting.
The goal of StreetPass Puzzle is to construct a 3D puzzle. But to complete this puzzle you need to collect pieces by interacting with other folks via StreetPass. The more people you interact with, the more puzzle pieces you gain until you can finally complete the puzzle. Richard was unable to test this game out fully however as it does rely on StreetPass interaction which he lacked.

It will be the same basic game, but as they said in the interview there is still a lot of people who haven't played the game, some of whom were turned off by the graphics of the original. If this gets more folks to purchase this amazing game than I'm all for it. Another cool thing is that it's a retail release, which opens the game up to a whole new audience. However it would be awesome if they announce the original game will also be included on the cartridge! (I'm sure there would be plenty of room)

"I'm going to miss the sprites."

[/size]I missed the part when they said they're not going to allow you to play the Wiiware DSIWare or PC versions anymore. Seriously whats wrong with giving the option to play the game with fully rendered 3D models if some people prefer that over the sprites.
