TalkBack / Re: PREVIEWS: Gladiator A.D.
« on: June 09, 2009, 02:34:13 PM »
After looking at the gameplay footage on Game Trailers, I hope High Voltage decides to spend a lot more time with this title to give it free roaming fighters and crazy gladiator scenarios. It looks boring how two fighters stay in place while they dodge and strike.

Hurrah! The Big Three part two is go! A Zelda trailer would've been icing, but it's fine if they decided to focus on making the game rather than making a trailer.

TalkBack / Re: PREVIEWS: Metroid: Other M

I don't see how the environments shown are any more generic/realistic than in Prime or Super Metroid. Also, we only got brief glimpses. Besides, I always thought of Metroid as less cartoony than other Nintendo offerings. Also, maybe they teased with the more actiony bits first and saved any exploration for a longer trailer or demonstration down the line.

I'm glad that Samus finally has some speed to her. One thing about Prime is that you moved slow. Understandable since it was 3D, but I missed hyper speed. As for the GoW/Ninja Gaiden finishers with the arm cannon, I honestly welcome the brutality from the galaxy's best bounty hunter.

Finally, Other M -> MOther? I know Nintendo is not known for it, but I'm eager to hear more about the story.

TalkBack / Re: Phantom Brave Delayed to Include Japanese Voice-overs
« on: June 02, 2009, 03:27:41 AM »

Hey, I'm all for both camps getting what they want from the get-go if the developer had such a thing in mind.  I just get annoyed at the sheer level of unadulterated whining from the subbies when their audio track doesn't included, especially if it's to accomodate a fully-voiced dub track (see: all the knashing of teeth on their forums about Ar Tolelico 2 not getting the Japanese VA track so they could fit the English VA in).  Sorry, this is a North American release so that takes priority.

This specific instance is more my annoyance with NISA in general, after they pretty much pissed me off permanently with their unbelievably-inept quality control on a certain title I already mentioned.  I just find it funny after they came right out and said they weren't even going to issue replacement discs on Ar Tonelico 2 for major issues they created in the localization process, that they would then turn around and cater to a very small segment of a potential fanbase and spend resources putting in the Japanese dub track for this game (something that people should just consider an extra at this point).  And mind you, Phantom Brave is probably going to sell like crap anyway just for being an incredibly niche game on a system not generally friendly to 3rd party games.

I just find NISA to be a more than incompetent localization studio at the moment, so yeah I'm being a little mean to the subbies at the moment but whatever.  I don't like the idea of anything taking NISA's attention away from issues that actually matter so they can focus on secondary issues like this.  I'd rather the game actually played the way it was supposed to.

Mm. I figured someone would call out my lunacy of wanting to pay less of something to understand something (subtitles) to not be able to understand something else (Japanese voice).

As for Japanese voice should be regarded as extra, I disagree but only from a subs junkie bias. I've been around long enough to realize that the only difference between Japanese-voiced character and an English-voiced characters is that you can pretend the one you don't understand is better than it actually is.

I have favorite actors and actresses on both sides of the pond (that seem to sound off in all the major titles) and would pay for the opportunity to hear both sides. Hell, I would even welcome and pay for alternate voice track DLC if it is a reasonable price. And not just for Japanese games but American and European games as well. One-five bucks to be able to play Gears of War, Ace Combat, or Symphonia in Japanese would be a highly enjoyable novelty for me.

Still, I have to recognize that voice acting is low in importance to a video game. And that there are some people that were looking forward to Phantom Brave Wii coming out on a specific date. I have yet to let a release date slip to get to me, but there's bound to be people to be less tolerant than I am.

"This isn't a fight anymore. It's a mother ****ing war!"

Hurrah for Ubi picking up the publishing tab.

I'm sorry, but if people want the game to have Japanese Voice Acting so much they can buy the import version.

Now that's a bit mean; telling them to buy the game at a much higher price and with important text they can not understand.

Without going in to a sub vs. dub debate, having two voice tracks ought to be an expected feature in an age of increasing media space. Seeing as how Phantom Brave is, they can't blame graphics for taking up space on a DVD-5 or a DVD-9. Also, I advocate having the Japanese voice track for a limited edition release as a replacement or as an inclusion if cost really is a concern for a publisher. There is certainly a fan base that would happily buy such releases.

Glad to see more work coming Headstrong's way. As for the game, I'm a little iffy on how it will pan out. I won't mind some more Lord of the Rings media, but how does everybody else feel?

TalkBack / Re: High Voltage Software Announces The Grinder for Wii
« on: May 27, 2009, 02:52:17 PM »
Maybe we'll be lucky and Grinder will have vampires, werewolves, zombies, aliens, terrorists, and alien zombie nazis.

Just need big bugs, dinosaurs, and killer robots. I don't think High Voltage Software has robot killing in any of there games yet. They gotta hit that sooner or later!

From the GameTrailers TV feature on the peripheral, it looks like the board will be on the small and slim side. Tony Hawk was on it and the length of his food covered the peripheral's width, I think.

Because this is for the thunderous rainy days or if you want to go faster and harder than what you're comfortable with. Gotta love video games for letting people act out some of their fantasies without risk of serious injury or death.

With the mixed reception I hear for Chrono Cross, I imagine that some fans are a bit wary of another sequel.

TalkBack / Re: Astro Boy Coming to Wii and DS

I pray that this game won't be as bad as Sonic Team's efforts for Astro Boy. If High Voltage can get close to Treasure's take, then huzzah! I'm a bit worried about how much development time was set aside for this since the new film is due this year.

Talk about coming out of the blue. A popular Japanese video game series that I thought would never cross the pond does. Lets hope more strange and exciting things happen this year.

I've heard good things about Votoms and that it is a superior take on real robot. I hope to see it soon.

Sorry, I should have been more specific in saying what I was thinking. It should be the ridiculousness of Gundam's departure of "real robot".

But Pokemon main line games have never been yearly, I think. Though, with all the spin offs it must feel that way.

Regardless, I'm excited for this if only to see how complete Kanto will be. I would be so bad if Game Freak decided to cut off Kanto (not much of a remake at that point). Ooh, it would be great bonus to have the rainbow islands or Battle Frontier for twice the gym leaders!

Gundam can be fun if you don't mind melodrama and the simple use of politics and military. Oh, and the ridiculousness of "real robot".

But yes, exactly that.

Gotcha Force was, at best, an okay arena beat 'em up. It was amusing to load up on one type of wacky force and lay waste with a good cackle. However, there are a lot of little things that bring the game down. I wouldn't mind a second try at it since having toy robots slinging missiles, bullets, and swords at each other is always fun (if you don't muck up the combat mechanics).

I was more interested in the technical aspects than the story so I was pleased with the trailers before this one. However, this story trailer has me very interested in a campaign that I thought would be more of a throwaway.

Go go Monster Hunter. Oh, I hope Capcom USA brings over Tri. They must know there's a dedicated fanbase that would gladly purchase an official localized copy.

Probably because a lot of Capcom's efforts are focused on their M.T. Framework engine games for PC, PS3, and 360.

Still, there's Spyborgs for the Wii. And I agree it would be downright odd to bring over Portable 2nd G but not Tri.

Share away.

The PSP games are rated poorly and this Wii version looks like they just ported over the engine. Bleh.

So the old adage holds true today: The more things change, the more they stay the same.

I wonder if Square Enix and Eidos will collaborate in any way to some effect in the future. It would be wasteful if they just kept on doing things as if they were separate.

Yes, but back then we didn't have a superior control interface to bring out the true depth of bobsled racing.
