I need the Warriors to beat the Pelicans tonight and lose to the Lakers on Sunday. Please and thank you.

Of course, m-f-ing Steph Curry decides to return from injury against the Lakers. I sincerely hope he’s rusty.

2
I mean the Jazz are trying to tank.  There is your reason there.
I was being rhetorical.

If you want to be literal though, the Jazz have won too many games to tank properly, recent loss to the Spurs notwithstanding. Also, they didn’t have to sell so low on two starter level players. The Jazz could have just sat them if tanking was the plan. Not that I’m complaining since the Lakers are watchable again. It’s just a little baffling that a man known for fleecing other teams in trades made a very non-Ainge deal.

Anyway, I’m surprised no one posted about that amazing Kangz vs Clippers game or Lillard dropping 71 without OT. Dead forum is dead, I guess. 🤷‍♀️

What else are you doing while in Japan?

So DS is region free but 3DS is not. Can I play a Japanese DS cart in my US 3DS?
Yes, DS games from any region can be played on a 3DS from any region.

4
Metal Gear Solid on Game Boy Color is under appreciated due to being a late-ish release. It’s really expensive to get a copy on the second-hand market. It’d be great if more people got to play it legitimately.

There are some licensed games that I doubt will ever get re-released yet are actually pretty legit: James Bond 007 (GB), Shaman King: Master of Spirits 1 and 2 (GBA, they’re like simplified Castlevania games), Lilo & Stitch (GBA), and Lilo & Stitch 2: Hamsterviel Havoc (GBA).

I listed a bunch of Japanese only releases in M.K.Ultra’s thread in General Gaming. I doubt any company is translating these games just to put it on this service. There’s also a Japanese only Game Boy Color version of Donkey Kong Land III that would be pretty coolio to see. There’s already an English script for it so maybe?

Once again:

What the **** were the Jazz thinking trading Vanderbilt and Beas- Never mind, I’m gonna stop questioning it. Thanks, Trader Ainge.

This remaster seems like a colossal waste of time. Like why even do this if you’re going to quarter-ass it so badly?

I have the GameCube version somewhere though the years have been unkind, and I completely forgot there was a PS2 version with extra content. I looked it up, and I don’t think I’m missing much.

Companies keep whiffing these remasters from what I’ve been reading. I recently looked up Chrono Cross: Radical Dreamers Edition, and that similarly seems like a missed opportunity. Get your **** together, guys. Is it really that difficult to remaster these games?

7
I tend to think these mega large companies should be broken up rather than become larger though so many mergers and acquisitions have happened with little more than a 🤷‍♀️ by most governing bodies that I have a hard time caring about this one. If y’all are going to do it anyway, this whole song and dance routine seems like a colossal waste of time.

From a gaming perspective, I’ve dabbled very little in Call of Duty so this doesn’t affect me much personally. Per some cursory googling, the last Call of Duty on a Nintendo platform was Call of Duty: Ghosts in 2013.

It seems weird that they have signed on to making games for an IP that have not yet acquired. I am guessing that if the deal does not go down, Activision has no obligation to make any games for Nintendo?
That’s the way I read it. That 10-year agreement is contingent on the acquisition going through though there’s nothing currently or previously stopping Activision Blizzard from releasing anything on Nintendo hardware other than it didn’t want to. This formal agreement is clearly meant to push the acquisition through regulators, intended as an act of good faith even if it isn’t. Trying to take a wider view of this, 10 years is a really short amount of time compared to potentially owning one of the oldest, largest publishers forever.

Which systems are region free (other than switch)
All pre-DSi Nintendo handhelds are region free. Even then, only DSi exclusive physical games are region locked, all five (?) of them. Not sure if you can read/speak/understand Japanese, but either way, you can't change the UI language on any Japanese model of DS to English.

PlayStation Portable and PS Vita are both region free and you can change the UI language to English (functionality for X and O are flipped though). I highly recommend getting a PS Vita, especially the 2000 model, if you're at all interested in console hacking/homebrew.

Game Gear and Neo Geo Pocket (Color) are both region free. I don't believe PC Engine GT (Turbo Express) is region free. WonderSwan was only released in Japan.

Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64 are kind of region locked, but you can open them up and remove some plastic to play games from all regions.

GameCube is not region free out of the box. However, if you have a soldering iron and tools to open the console, you can bridge R6 on the motherboard which effectively turns a Japanese GameCube into a North American GameCube. Even the UI language will be in English. EDIT: You can also install a region switch, or if you’re feeling bold, you can install the XenoGC mod chip onto the optical drive’s logic board which lets you just play whatever region’s games as well as burned discs.

That's all I know off the top of my head.

Some really good Japan-only physical games
I picked up some Japanese only Game Boy games in the past couple months so here are my recommendations:
  • Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru (The Frog For Whom The Bell Tolls) (Note: Prince Richard appears in Link's Awakening)
  • Survival Kids 2: Dasshutsu! Futago Shima (Survival Kids 2: Escape the Twin Islands)
  • Star Ocean: Blue Sphere
  • Tomato Adventure (Note: From Alpha Dream, the developers of the Mario & Luigi series)
  • Oriental Blue: Ao no Tengai
  • Magical Vacation
  • Samon Naito Kurafutosōdo Monogatari Hajimari no Ishi (Summon Night: Swordcraft Story - Stone of Beginnings)
  • Shin Bokura no Taiyou: Gyakushuu no Sabata (Boktai 3: Sabata's Counterattack)
  • Mother 1+2
  • Mother 3
Most of these are RPGs.

Saw this on Reddit.

I’ve never seen Baten Kaitos Origins new or used in store before, and one of my best friends worked at Game Crazy then Play N Trade for like eight years. Since it never got re-released, I had resorted to other means to play it via the GC Loader for GameCube.

I kind of feel bad now so maybe I’ll snag this eventually.

11
Pokémon is notably absent.

Super Mario Bros. 3 with the e-reader levels is pretty neat-o. I was going to try to find a ROM hack, but this is easier. I’m already paying for the Expansion Pack.

12
I’m still trying to get through Master Mode in Breath of the Wild so this isn’t Day 1 for me (Trials of the Sword is no joke). I need a Zelda break.

Tears of the Kingdom looks good though. I am still hoping for more overworld changes. I’m disappointed there’s more gyro nonsense.

TalkBack / Re: Metroid Prime Remaster Available Later Today

I don’t need this.

I’m probably going to buy it anyway.

I was hoping there would be more bonuses/changes. Faster scanning like Metroid Prime 3, maybe a redesigned Phazon Suit, a new boss, a reworking of that pacing-halting fetch quest toward the end etc.

Anyone watch that Lakers Celtics game?
Of course, I did. Bad reffing cost the Lakers three games definitely, possibly four. It is what it is.

Lakers gave up in OT
Ehh, I felt they were deflated from that non-call. They kept it within reach despite the circumstances. I give Davis a pass. This was his second game back, and he played well over his 20-24 minute minutes restriction.

This game isn’t close if Westbrook is average. The Lakers lost leads every time homeboy checked into the game. And if Pat Bev makes that one free throw, maybe we don’t have this conversation. If he doesn’t foul Brown, maybe we don’t have this conversation. That putback dunk was filthy though.

Also, Pat Bev is disgustedupvote.jpeg for me, but showing the camera to the ref was hilarious. I saw this on Reddit:

But what I wonder, is do they speed run the other missed movies through the Chinese theaters as well?
Probably not. I looked this up. China will generally ban anything with LGBTQ+ content. If a studio can edit it out, maybe it gets through. My favorite one though was the reason why Spider-Man: No Way Home was blocked from release: China wanted the Statue of Liberty edited out of the movie. LOL, that’s like the entire climax. I don’t know if maybe it would’ve been enough to just remove wide shots showing identifiable features of the statue. Clearly, Marvel/Disney didn’t even bother.

Criticizing China is the easiest way to get a movie banned, and Chinese censors are super-strict about it. If anyone associated with the movie was critical of China, that’s an automatic ban (i.e. Simu Liu from Shang-Chi). Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness apparently had a newspaper prop in the background of one scene that resulted in the whole film getting banned because the publication was once critical of China outside of the movie. If a studio makes a movie that’s critical of China, everything by that studio will be banned.

That said, I’m curious what magic Iger worked to get Chinese releases after so many consecutive bans. It wouldn’t surprise me if Marvel got enough movies banned in a row that China stopped reviewing them entirely and just banned them outright.

Even if the NBA wants to claim high-five contact, Hardaway still bumps into Brown in the air and ends up in his landing space which absolutely is a foul. Beyond that, there was enough fuckery elsewhere like two missed foul calls in 1OT, one of which was Luka with five fouls.

Still, if LeBron doesn’t shoot 0% from the three-point line and/or the team doesn’t shoot 63% from the foul line, maybe this isn’t even a conversation. Also, LeBron insisting that Ham use the Coach’s Challenge when he wasn’t even in foul trouble really could have been useful at the end there. And beyond that, maybe double team Luka or simply foul him before he even takes a three pointer (which the Lakers inexplicably didn’t do twice), and force him to pull off another miracle miss-free-throw-rebound-and-score like he did against the Knicks. The officiating was buttcheeks all game, but let’s not act like the Lakers didn’t make some costly mistakes on their own. Seriously, make one extra free throw in regulation. 🤦‍♀️

I was joking. I was just trying to work in the Lady Fancyfingers reference. Toph was fine in TLoK though maybe more curmudgeonly than I thought her character would have ended up. I merely chalked it up to a-lot-can-happen-to-a-person-in-70-years. How many people are the same even five or 10 years ago?

It is kind of weird that she ended up wearing the same color scheme. Like did she specifically ask someone? Was it just a coincidence? These are important questions.*

*They aren’t

I mostly liked the Shrines. 🤷‍♀️ Not all of them were winners especially the gyro ones. And there were a few instances in which they could have been placed more strategically on the overworld to make fast traveling to certain areas easier like north of Great Hyrule Forest. Still, I wouldn’t say no to some traditional dungeons in Tears of the Kingdom though I kind of want to see an old-school Zelda since we haven’t had one of those in nearly 20 years so maybe do that instead.

Toph... well, her story fits her character well.
Does it? On the fence over whether Toph having the same general hairstyle and outfit for 70 years made sense, tbh. Toph isn’t exactly Lady Fancyfingers in ATLA, but did the TLoK writers think blind people don’t care about style and personal grooming? 0/10, would not recommend.

Klay is a shell of his former self
Just really glad you were wrong about this.

I normally don't like unsportsmanlike conduct, but this is my favorite thing that's happened this season so far: Klay Thompson taunts Dillon Brooks while he's on the ground after hitting a shot.

Dillon started it last season. If you're going to run your mouth, be prepared when **** like this happens.

While that seems like a great idea, it proves problematic when closely examining any of the previous promotional material, as the topography of Hyrule seems mostly unchanged, save for the absence of Sheikah shrines.
Maybe. 🤷‍♀️

Like you said, we know very little. If I was going to hide anything about the game, reshaping portions of the overworld and how that happens would be it. Some things don't need to be changed though such as the stables and villages. I do wonder where the sky islands come from, and it just reminds me of Skyloft. The first teaser from E3 2021 shows Hyrule Castle lifting off the ground.

Judging by Aonuma's words, I think a decently meaty underground is in store for us.
I don't know how meaty it's going to be though I expect some cave and underground areas especially after that scene with Zelda apparently falling through the ground in the 2021 E3 teaser (unless that’s a red herring or a vision/dream). It's one way to add new exploration opportunities if Tears of the Kingdom is going to share the same basic overworld.

Is there a recent video or something that released? When exactly is this coming out?
1. Not since the trailer/title reveal trailer a few months ago.
2. May 12, 2023.

Is the Switch Pro, or Switch 2 on the horizon? and what do we know about that?
Where are all the credible rumors surrounding that?
1. Nothing announced.
2. Last rumor I read, a Switch Pro was planned and quietly cancelled due to some weird thing that happened in 2020.

2 - Underground - If we have a ton of caves, cities and other locales underground I'm certain this is where no Loftwing would be allowed. If the underground is as extensive as even 1/4 of top ground Hyrule is that's a ton of area to explore that keeps the Glider and other traversal tools relevant that outright flight wouldn't completely omit.
I’m a little concerned about possibly exploring caves and the underground because areas like Thyphlo Ruins that were completely blacked out without a torch were among my least favorite parts of the game.

Quote
3 - Dungeons - Epona don't get to go in dungeons neither does Loftwing. Same pricipal as the underground.
I expect larger dungeons than the shrines though I think exploration is still going to be bulk of the game.

Quote
4 - Sky - If the Loftwing is limited to the "heavenly" part of the sky maybe there are certain natural or unnatural barriers that keep you from just flying to any portion right off the bat.
Part of me thinks the floating landmasses is how Nintendo plans on changing the surface as in they lift up from Hyrule which not only alters huge areas of the surface but opens up underground caves.

Quote
5 - Hyrule Surface - Depending on how much has changed I wonder how much the development team wants us to climb the same land masses like we once did?
I was a little concerned about this, but it’s hard for me not to trust that Nintendo will do something fun and interesting here. Aside from what I mentioned above, there is a possibility Nintendo simply extends the map beyond Hyrule from Breath of the Wild into neighboring kingdoms, empires etc.. You can clearly see islands in the distance. The desert simply stops and you can’t travel farther despite visible terrain. The entire top of the map has an entire inaccessible landmass. Mount Agaat is the only area on the Breath of the Wild map that is labeled but can’t be visited by normal means.

Anyway, I’m curious about the story. The Tears of the Kingdom logo looks Zonai-ish and very little was revealed about them. The Seven Heroines (actually, eight) were similarly mysterious. Also, I’ve wondered what would happen if the goddesses returned to Hyrule. “We f-ing gave you these triangles for peace and prosperity, and it’s just been eons of y’all breaking ****. You split the timeline three ways. We didn’t know that was even possible. How did you do that? Why?! **** you guys. We’re taking the Triforce with us.”

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Upcoming Switch games! What's on your wishlist
« on: January 12, 2023, 07:40:12 PM »
Tears of the Kingdom is the only game on my wishlist though I’m not planning buying it a launch. I’m still trying to 100% Breath of the Wild in Master Mode including the DLC. I’ll need a break from open-world open-air Zelda. There’s plenty on my backlog. Watch, I’m going to buy it at launch anyway. 🤷‍♀️
