Japanese 3DS Battery Life Solution Released
« on: January 24, 2012, 09:13:07 PM »

A third-party battery offers a 10-hour battery life for Nintendo's 3D system.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/29054

Third party hardware company, Japan Trust Technology, has released a 3DS battery that extends the handheld's life significantly.

The 5,800mAh battery requires removal of the 3DS's original battery. But once it has been installed, it extends the battery life from the system's standard 3-to-5 hour game time to 10 hours of play time. The battery, however, makes the system 9mm thicker and heavier.

The product's official page shows how to install the battery onto the 3DS, as well as a selection of colors that match the 3DS's currently available colors. The battery is available now in two color sets: white, red and pink covers for ¥9,980 (which is approximately 129.58 in American currency), and with blue and black covers for ¥9,480 ($123.08).

$120+ just for a better battery? Might as well save that and put it towards the eventual redesign that will surely have better battery life, among other things.

Doesn't the Nyko PowerPak work with Japanese 3DS's?

I saw an energizer battery pack like this at Target last week. It looked different, but promised about the same amount of play time. And it cost way less too.

Yeah, but it's only about 2x the battery capacity, not 4x. Though it's a lot cheaper too.

I've only had the 3DS for a month now but I haven't found a noticeable difference in battery life compared to my other handhelds.  I've only had to take it on a few trips during this span of time so maybe those "tests" weren't enough? But really, there is not a $120 problem to fix.

The battery life is far shorter than any other handheld except PSP, and it's especially bad with Wi-Fi play. I've found the Nyko battery to give a reasonable amount of playtime, and by making the 3DS thicker, it's actually easier to hold as well. The price on this one is just absurd.

How can a battery cost $120? That's insane.

It sounds somewhat in line with extra batteries for laptops. Also, you have to factor that this is the price for the Japanese market.

Unless you're downloading something or playing online, there really isn't a reason to have the Wi-Fi on. I play my 3DS without SpotPass, StreetPass, Wi-Fi, or anything, and my battery life is great. As far as the price is concerned, I don't know how anyone could justify purchasing a battery that costs nearly as much as the system does. If this hits America, they'll have to tone down the price.

Seriously though. 120 bucks and it won't work with the dock anymore? Yeah. non-starter. Easier to just play plugged in.

Nyko has put out a new Powerpack that you just snap into place and it doubles as a set of grips.  I have the original one with the screws even though I went back to the regular battery with my Refurb unit.  I'm tempted to try the new one.

Exqueeze me? I'm pretty sure 3 to 5 hours up to 10 hours would make this one 2x as well. Though I didn't look up the actual capacity of the Nyko battery...
