Confession time:
Last movie I saw in theatres - Avatar
Last movie I used my own money to see in theatres - The Wrestler

Also, Drew McIntyre's a generic evil Scottish guy whose theme music is far more badass than he deserves.

i broke my 3DS Streetpass cherry while listening to Newscast  :)

I was in the mall and I walked into a gamestop. I got a mii from 3ds demo unit and some other person because it said I found both of them at about the same time.

What's with the lazy editing?

There were several portions of the show that should have been edited out.

- Zach getting disconnected and repeatedly saying "hello?"
- Andy complaining about "robot voice" and Nathan responding that it was fine
- Andy stopping mid-sentence and then repeating what he had just said

They break up the flow of the conversation and it sounds unprofessional.

This ends this hour and twenty minute podcast.

This week I tried having us break to a moment of silence for when something went wrong so that I could catch errors without scribbling notes. Turns out it doesn't work because we can't break for every little thing.

Plus, you know, I'm human and stuff with work, school, and prepping for my EIT has me under tons of time pressure. Getting this out within the two late night time blocks I have to edit the show was a bit rough. If you will notice, a few episodes ago everything was all nice with musical interludes and crosstalk eliminated.  Sometimes I just have less time :)

I left the hour and twenty minute thing in because I thought it was funny, but I have a strange sense of humor.

This is the first show I've listened to in a while so I'm not familiar with what you did a few episodes ago.

I don't mean any disrespect--lord knows you do a better job than I ever could.  But I didn't sign up for something I wasn't prepared to do every week.

Your constructive criticism stops being constructive when you take an accusatory tone like that.

There was always the house that gave out the best candies at Halloween. Sometimes they were huge candied apples, other times they taped a dollar to the candy bar, but then eventually one year they would just give you a tootsie roll. As a kid, it always felt like a huge rip-off, but that was because I didn't have a basic understanding of how the world worked.

I didn't think that while they had committed to handing out candy when they left the light on and placed a Jack-O'-Lantern at the door, that maybe economically, be it time or money, they were constrained with what they could hand out to me when I came knocking that year. So while they wanted to give me the best candies I've ever had, all they could give me was a tootsie roll. I hadn't considered that, and hey, they did still give me free candy.

Hey guys, I have a suggestion. I therefore submit it to you for consideration.

Since I was looking forward to the Donkey Kong Country 3 discussion that never materialized, and being a fan of the past Game Club discussions and retro gaming in general, I think I may have come up with an easy way to incorporate such things into the Newscast.

As I am also a fan of the Extra Life feature on the site, perhaps you could dedicate 10-15 minutes each podcast to discussing the weekly feature? If they happen to be on the Newscast that week, whoever wrote the article could spend a couple of minutes talking about the game a little more in-depth. Other Newscast members who happen to have access to the game could play it for half an hour to refresh their memories, or they could simple share their previous experiences with the title. That way, not everyone will be required to play the game, as per Game Club, yet  people can still contribute to the discussion.

Furthermore, you could pull comments from the Extra Life feature (that conveniently already exists) and read and discuss them on the air. It in turn might even drive more people to view the "Extra Life" article. It seems as though it would require little effort -- most of the heavy lifting is already done -- and you could tack it on to the end of the podcast and make the title "Extra Life" even more apt.

What does everyone think?

I do have one question...what in the world is that song that Nathan and Zach have been humming for the past two episodes?  Anything in particular?

The tune was driving me crazy because it reminded me of something I couldn't quite place...then I remembered, it sounded like a melody from a song from the old Rankin-Bass version of The Hobbit

I can't imagine that's what you guys were referencing, but that's what it reminded me of.

Edit:  I had assumed that you had left the Zach disconnecting talk in the episode for the hilarity of it.    I enjoyed the music interludes in the previous episodes.  Well done!

You should be ashamed, sir. It's clearly the theme from Jurassic Park.
