How do you join? Does it just show up in the tournament list?

I really want to use Wendy, but I can't seem to settle on a setup that works well for me. That and I'm stupidly trying for 150 triple gold this time, so there is a *lot* of ragequitting going on. Anything that doesn't involve going for gold I should look for?

With the CPU, I find that top speed doesn't matter much. What worked best for me was, something with a lot of acceleration and handling. That allowed me to get right back into things after taking a hit.

Can I just say Mop It Up is a devil? Me and her seem to line up play times often. At first I would try not to target her in world wide or regional. You know, help out a fellow Nintendo World Reporter. I still regularly beat her. I was leading 6-1 up until a week ago. Now she has like millon points and the record is 8-17 with her in the lead. Never shows me mercy! As a matter of fact I had to defriend her, the heartless fiend.

Ouch man, that's a little harsh. I'm sorry, I don't specifically target anyone, I just fire off items as soon as possible. I don't really have time to check names, a moment's hesitation can be disastrous in this game. One hit can often be enough to ruin a race.

I hope that last line isn't true...

Am I the only one that thinks that the design of the Bowser's Castle courses has surpassed that of Rainbow Road as the "best" Mario Kart track in the last few console games? (Never played the handheld games so I can't judge those.) The N64 Rainbow Road is probably one of my all time favorite courses in the game, but the ones after it haven't really grabbed me. But every Bowser's Castle has consistently been fun to drive and challenging from start to finish without being overly cruel.

Rainbow Road will always have a special place due to the strategic areas where you can fall off the track for a shortcut, though they aren't nearly as significant as they were in MK64. Wario Stadium had the best shortcut ever though.

But yeah, Bowser's Castle is awesome.

Bowser's Castle has a little more freedom to be creative, IMO.  I like what they did with Rainbow Road this time around, but Bowser's Castle kinda knocked it out of the park.

My thing with Rainbow Road is that it makes me drive conservatively because getting the wrong item or boosting too fast means falling off (at almost any time) and falling behind.  Then you end up with the risk of getting a less than convenient item.

MK8 has hit 2 million sold, not bad. In bigger news I hit 3 stars in all 8 100CC cups last night. Next up: 150CC and plenty of bitching.

I recently discovered that you should just start with 150cc and if you beat it 3 stars then everything will just get filled in bellow it. I hate single player Mario Kart that isn't time trials.

Also did I mention how awesome and lovely Mop It Up is? Her beastly driving is a site to behold!  ;D

Read that too fast and saw "beastly" as "breasts." I didn't know they did that in Mario Kart games...but I always like going through every difficulty anyway.

Hey remember when Polygon projected Mario Kart 8 sales would hit 1.99 million by March 2015???!?!?

And in real life it hit those numbers in just 1 month.

That sure is funny.

I would have done this except it took me thirteen cups to unlock the character I wanted. And now I can't get past three stars on 150cc Star because of f**king Dolphin Shoals.

So 150CC is bullshit. I can have easily a 10 second lead, then get hit with one red shell and Wendy Koopa passes from absolutely nowhere. And yes, the CPU gets their item instantly when they hit a question mark, kind of ridiculous.

Honestly the last-3-second-item-spam-fest is pretty ridiculous, almost to the point where the game isn't fun anymore.

I don't usually have that happen to me. Usually I get screwed prior to the third lap and have no hope of catching up. However, I was able to do it. The Star Cup on 150 cc was the hardest for me, bar-none.

I've noticed if you can break away from the pack early they just destroy each other the entire time leaving the leader to gain more and more distance.

Definitely, Caterkiller. I found Dolphin Shoals the toughest race due to how narrow it was in most parts and how difficult it was to break away from the pack and even lead the race. If I could have done that, I at least would have had an easier time.

I agree with that in the case of Mario Kart VIII, but not previous games. The Rainbow Road in Wii and Double Dash!! were both pretty awesome. The new one in this game is pretty plain and uninteresting, and isn't really much of a rainbow. It's more like Multi-Coloured Space Station Road. The Bowser's Castle here is a much more entertaining and difficult track.

Oops, maybe I came of serious... Sorry Mop It Up! In all honesty racing with you has been a blast. I tried to come off as the whiny sore loser, maybe I played it too well. And no I'd never de-friend you.
Ah, okay, no problem. I thought it might have been but it can be tough to tell tone in writing.

Yeah, that's typically how the GPs went for me also. I would get nothing but coins and have no way to block shells and stuff. And the Star Cup is definitely my least-fave cup in the game, just full of either plain or terrible tracks.
