Been wondering what that delay was for?

NINTENDO NEWS: METROID PRIME HUNTERS WILL BE WI-FI READY

Aug. 26, 2005

Since the Nintendo DS™ first launched with demo versions of Metroid® Prime Hunters, fans have been clamoring for the completed version of the game. Their patience has paid off. Metroid Prime Hunters will launch in the first quarter of 2006, complete with access to Nintendo® Wi-Fi Connection, Nintendo’s upcoming online gaming service. Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection will debut before the end of the year with a Mario Kart® and an Animal Crossing® game, and will let players connect wirelessly with one another as easily as if they were sitting in the same room.

For the first time, fans can get their hands on a trial version of the new single-player mission of Metroid Prime Hunters this weekend at the Penny Arcade Expo in Bellevue, Wash. Attendees also can see three previously unreleased bounty hunter characters in the game. These include Sylux, a ruthless sharpshooter who harbors an intense hatred for Metroid heroine Samus Aran; Trace, a young outcast who seeks power and a planet to invade; and Weavel, a cyborg Space Pirate assassin. For more information and videos of the bounty hunters in action, visit www.metroidhunters.com.

All the title needed was "OMG, Hunters, Online!" and it would have had a greater effect.

This probably will be the first online DS game I'll get, unless I can get Animal Crossing DS sent to me.

I'm still not sure whether or not I want this game, but it's definitely good news.

Wasn't this originally scheduled for August or something?

Lets see.  Metroid Prime style battles with much better mouse/d-pad type controls.  Well balanced character classes and online battles...really what is not to like about this title.

I think it should be a great hit, and with or without a great single player mode, people will be playing this Metroid for years to come.

Does it really take that long to add online?  I bet they have been working on the story mode for awhile too.  Glad they added Online feature, it makes the wait worth it i think.  Oh and yeah August was the original scheduled date.

My prediction is pretty much opposite.  Next to Metroid Pinball, this will probably be the most forgettable Metroid game to date.  I think it'll sell okay in Japan, but AFAIK the series isn't too popular there, nor is the genre.  That's not a winning combonation.  In the US the DS isn't as popular, and the Metroid name is pretty unknown, aside from core gamers.  If NOA advertises this thing heavily, with a HUGE emphasis on controls and online play, it'll boost the sales ten-fold, but I still don't see it selling well.

Metroid will be the first online DS First Person Shooter.  It will probably be the only FPSer on a portable that plays well as well.

That is all that needs to be in place to advertise the game and get it to be a success.

I think this Metroid game has a lot going for it.

1) It introduces new characters to the universe, expanding the world and depth of characters for the first time in a long time.
2) Once again it is trying to create a unique Metroid experience...exploring the idea of other Bounty Hunters and the troubles Samus may have with them.  She isn't neccessarly the best anymore.
3)Uses a more suitable control scheme for online human battles, then Prime 2's control scheme used.
4)Metroid's ball mechanics and unique powerups creates a deathmatch that is unlike any other FPS out there.

I haven't even touched single player yet, because I have no idea what that game will be like.  Needless to say this has alot going for it.

Metroid Pinball will be a fun deversion as long as it plays well, but I agree I don't see it being that popular.

I still stand that Metroid Pinball should have been a fun side game that could be unlocked in Hunters, not something that is supposed to stand alone.

First off I want to say that this is great news.

Second, why has Ian not replied yet. I hope he has not left the board becuase his usualy negativity (or realism, if you preffer, because most pesamist don't like being called negative) made the board fun to read. Otherwise everyone would pretty much agree and this board would be boring.

the intro videos in the official site are very nice, but I do have my reservations still, I like the direction of the game, but I wish for it to dont stray too far away from what identifies a Metroid game, they previews just talk about some tournament-like event, like unreal, something Im not very fond of... again, Im positive about the game, hoping for the best.

Ian and Stevey are best parts of the board, without a doubt.

I wonder if every bounty hunter is going to have a morph ball type ability? That seems like a bit of stretch.

If the delay was really just because of online they're probably adding more rigorous testing and anti-cheat measures as well as a way to hold the inevitable patches. Playing locally is a lot less problematic in terms of cheats becaue you can always go over and smack the cheater. I believe they didn't really plan to add a full singleplayer mode or some parts of the game were lacking.

I don't think that all the characters having a morph ball mode is stretching it any further than fighting insectoid space pirates who are led by a giant brain that wants to rule the galaxy by using floating parasitic clawed bubbles.

But then again that could just be me

as far as I know, and based on the intro videos, yes, every character has its own morph ball mode. I find that very nice actually.

And what makes this boards great is the Bill-Ian dynamics, they cancel each other out, making this the most objective forum Ive ever been into, stevey is just the comic relief

Nope, each bounty hunter has a form of the morphball...One such hunter morphs into a pillbug-like creature, another into a spinning top with spikes, etc...

Hmm, well I long as morph ball is just part of the game and they don't try to explain it too much. It sometimes irritates me when they try to explain video game mechanics in  the game's storyline. "This is why you have a special move power-up meter, this is why you have extra lives" etc.

This is definately good news, though I may not get Hunters I realize it is a great move by Nintendo. Speaking of Ian I think he is someone that has what I call "Crying wolf syndrome" where all he can do is complain to the point of no one paying attention to him (even if some of his complaints have merit), but when something good happens he is out of his zone since he can't cry wolf.

Um that was my point about Ian and people like him, they cry wolf so much when something truly bad occrus no one is going to take it seriously! They get so caught up in complaining about everything when something good does happen they are no where to be seen, there is no wolf to call for!
