I personally think they are good commercials because they sell people on what you can do with the Wii controller and they are targeted towards the Wii's major user base, which is made up of MANY casual gamers.

...which also has the downside of potentially driving away the hardcore audience. I don't think the Wii commercials are awful. They're very good at what they're trying to get across (i.e. casual gaming fun with friends and family along with the controller). Rather, Nintendo could stand to produce more commercials that really show off that Wii is also a gamer's console though I guess they could stand to have more of those types of games.

I have a feeling that what Sakurai said may not apply anymore

I remember getting verbally mauled in the face after suggesting that last year. "But Sakurai said...." Anything could happen.

I'd love to see Rayman or Ryu Hayabusa though if Snake's fake neck-snap move was a problem for some people, imagine what Hayabusa would bring to Brawl. Almost every move he has involves dismembered limbs. Also, if any Ryu makes it, I'd bet on that guy from Street Fighter.

There's a red pot on the top right side of that room. Carry it over to the area you fight the Phantoms. You can basically let them see you then run to the protective spot where you dropped the pot. They'll chase you, but once you're in the protective spot, they'll get confused and turn around and you can just hack them with your sword.

That's what I did anyway.

TalkBack / RE: Wii Outselling PlayStation 3 2-to-1 in Japan

Yeah.... how did this fool anyone? If Nintendo is still outselling Sony, their lead is still growing, just not as fast as it was earlier this year.

Wii Fit and Brawl are going to make it really hard for anyone to get a leg up on Nintendo in Japan in the coming months. MGS4, arguably PS3's biggest title, just got delayed again to Q2.

Twilight Princess didn't deserve a 10.......

Super Mario Galaxy, from what I played, probably does... or at least deserves a higher score than Zelda.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Manhunt 2 from Rockstar? Whoa...
« on: November 03, 2007, 09:04:45 PM »
The most offensive thing about this game is how much it insults me as a gamer. I believe publishers should be allowed to produce games of graphic violence and whatnot. Why not? I oppose this kind of censorship, especially when irresponsible parents try to pass the blame onto something else.... instead of raising their children the right way. Don't want your children to play games like Manhunt 2? DON'T BUY IT FOR THEM.... and on top of that, all 3 console makers made it even easier for them by adding parental controls. You can't cry foul when you're too damn lazy and irresponsible to be a good parent.

Ahem.....

What I do have a problem with is when publishers release half-assed games. That insults me as a potential consumer. I don't want to spend my money on a sh*tty game. Granted, I rented Manhunt 2 for free, but that's besides the point. It's not a very good game.

The controls are just terrible and at points, maybe to show how insane Danny Lamb was, he'd just stand there and I wouldn't be able to move him for a few seconds while the screen slightly shook. Think along the lines of the insanity effects in Eternal Darkness, except annoying and not creative. I was thinking maybe my Wii was just messing up, but then I tested Wii Sports and Metroid prime 3 and they ran fine. Maybe that's because Nintendo's studios are good at developing games.......

Can't skip cutscenes?! Nooooooooooo.............

And the camera sucks hard too? What? Nooooooooooo........

I should have rented The Simpsons Game.

I thought Chris Carter was co-writing this himself... so wouldn't that mean the movie wouldn't be affected by the writer's strike?

TalkBack / RE: IMPRESSIONS: Contra 4
« on: November 01, 2007, 09:01:28 PM »
I figured you'd say that. Contra 4 is the Contra game I've been waiting for. It's hard to explain. I'd compare it to how I looked forward to Metroid Fusion more than Prime though I hope Contra 4 is a better 4th installment than Fusion, not that Fusion was bad.

And I see Mario all the time. Every time I turn around, he's in another game or like 7 other games. Super Mario Galaxy will be an amazing game, but I don't miss Mario. Nintendo won't allow that. I miss old-school Contra. Blame nostalgia I guess...

That'd be a shame if this affected Pushing Daisies. I haven't watched the show (I want to!!!), but Bryan Fuller has terrible luck. He's a brilliant creator.... yet all his shows get axed. Why?

Yeah, seriously. Learn to play, noobs. Contra 3 was awesome.

Contra 4 is like my most anticipated game this year (since Brawl was delayed). It beats out Super Mario Galaxy by a hair since it hasn't been 14 years since the last real installment of the series.

Didn't we discuss a Bowser stage before?

In any case, the Bowser stage needs to include the Koopa Clown Car somehow. I was really hoping that it'd be Bowser's match entrance intro thing.

That's real smart.

There wasn't much evidence of Sonic besides the Olympics game thing and I'm not sure that even counts as evidence. It was just more obvious than anything.

Also, I'd love to see Viewtiful Joe.... but Mega Man still seems far more likely.

The commercial was great. Homer continually walking in the wall was hilarious. I'll rent this as soon as I can.

Wanting more from a game doesn't make one ungrateful.

Snake being included in Brawl should be the biggest insult to anyone who's complaining about Cloud, a character who isn't even in the game. I really don't feel like getting into all that again.

Cloud being a minor character in one GBA game is not enough of a rationale, not to mention he's already been overexposed about a billion and a half times more then was neccessary.

from my last post:
Chain of Memories is a technicality that makes Cloud eligible but not a very likely reason to be chosen so I'm convinced that Cloud would only make it in if Wii gets a FFVII related game (remake or sequel).

I'm not championing Cloud. I already said I'd rather see other characters take the spot first. I just don't understand the hate. Sakurai and Nintendo included Snake as a favor to Kojima. As far as I'm concerned, Snake was barely eligible. I'm sure if Cloud makes it in, Nintendo will have a damn good reason for it.

Since I already consider Mega Man as playable, here's my Megaton:
1. Simon Belmont to complete the Captain N team (other Belmonts as costumes would be nice)
2. Palutena playable
3. Voice-chat for online multiplayer
4. Costumes with customizable attire
5. Character creation mode
6. Boss rush mode

I'll hope though I don't see a single one of those things happening. If one or more of them did, I'd be pleasantly surprised.

And Cloud...f%ck Cloud.

I still don't understand all the Cloud hate. A friend of mine jokingly said he'd boycott the game if Cloud made it in. Including Cloud would only be good for the game. How many FF fans would buy a Wii and Brawl just for Cloud? Probably a lot.... for ONE character and everyone who buys the game for Cloud increases the number of "hardcore gamers" who own Wiis. "Oh, Cloud made it in over character X or Y." Wah! Chain of Memories is a technicality that makes Cloud eligible but not a very likely reason to be chosen so I'm convinced that Cloud would only make it in if Wii gets a FFVII related game (remake or sequel). What you'll probably get in return (better 3rd party support) for "putting up with" Cloud  in Brawl is well worth it and then some. Don't get me wrong though. I'd rather see other characters fill a spot. I just wouldn't be pissed to see Cloud in the game, especially for what it could mean for Wii in the long run.

Too late. 3rd party characters. 4-player online multiplayer. Stage Editor. Sakurai and his team have already set the bar to almost unattainable levels. With 3 months left until release, many people probably still expect them to top what they've already announced.

... what I've realized is that if a company wants something to happen and happen extremely well on a certain platform, you better believe they're gonna find a way to make it work irregardless of the so-called "technical hurdles" in front of them.

Very true...

3rd parties flat-out chose not to support Nintendo hardware. Technical limitations are excuses and poor ones at that. Take a game like FFXII on PS2.... imagine what that team could do with Wii.

Also, don't insult the box of rocks.

Predictions:
1. Costumes.... specifically, you get to customize attire. It's like playing dress-up with your favorite characters, even the naked ones like Bowser and Pikachu. Give them obnoxiously large sunglasses or pants.
2. Character - Mona (Warioware) or Ness
3. Adventure Mode - Subspace Emissary - Boss: Dr. Eggman

I think I've completely given up trying to guess the updates with reasonable responses. If I ever get one right, it'll be for something ridiculous.

I love the set stages though I've always wanted a stage editor in Smash Bros. I reached points in the hundreds of hours I spent playing both the original and Melee where I just got plain bored of the stages and characters. I'm a value whore so I'm always up for more stuff. Even though I'm terribly skeptical of the idea of customizable characters in Smash Bros., I'm totally open to the idea though I doubt they'd put it in if it didn't work.

And, as a value whore, I really would like to see all the older stages remade for Brawl. The more options and additions there are the better. It took years of playing nearly everyday to get tired of the other Smash games, but I did get tired of them. Melee is almost unplayable to me now though admittedly due primarily to Brawl's sheer awesomeness. I almost feel like Sakurai and his team set the bar so high that the expectations for this game are unattainable and that I'll find myself disappointed in something. For instance, the introduction of 3rd party characters has spoiled me. I'll probably always think in the back of my mind how much more awesome the game could have been with character X or Y.

It won't ruin the experience or come close but hype is almost universally a bad thing. I can't remember the last game I was super-hyped about that actually lived up to all my expectations. The original Metroid Prime was close and without thinking too hard about it, MP was probably the closest it ever got.

Glad the Ice Climbers get a non-terrible stage.

The bottom left platform looks like it opens and closes.

I'm looking forward to seeing what NWRers (eh?) can come up with!

I've yet to give anyone on NWR my Wii Console Number....... Partially because I have no multiplayer games, but mostly because no one wants it. Time to hang myself.

And your stage names are so boring. You need to add adjectives like "ultimate" or "maximum" or "fantastorgasmic" to give the names more zip.

I thought Capcom shipped over 1 million units which is an entirely different landmark.

Wii isn't getting RE5. There's a better chance of getting a non-numbered main series game like Code Veronica based on the RE4 engine and even that seems like a stretch because apparently, most 3rd parties think Wii needs more light gun and party games.
