3DS Launch Lineup, Game Pricing Details Emerge
« on: January 07, 2011, 10:37:42 PM »

How many titles will the system launch with, and how much will gamers pay for them?

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/rumor/24670

According to an unsourced report at website Inside Games, the Nintendo 3DS will launch in Japan with a lineup of roughly 10 titles.  The system is set for Japanese release on February 26.

Inside Games also reports a large number of third-party titles in the pipeline, with releases spread out across February and March.  Games will be priced closer to those of the PSP, coming in around the Â¥5,800 mark, with top-end releases possibly reaching Â¥6,800.  By comparison, most DS games are priced at Â¥4,800.

Nintendo World opens to the public on Saturday, and Nintendo will surely reveal more details at the show.

The good news for Europe is that since DS games already cost as much as Wii games here we'll probably not get a price hike.

All of those details become moot once you watch these videos:

I like the 2nd and 3rd on the top.

Price flexibility is the key. There are games I'd be fine paying $40 for (mainline Mario, Zelda, Metroid, and the like), but there's a lot of stuff that would still need to be $30 or $20. Also, remember that there were developers early in the DS's life (I know EA did it, and I think there were others) that tried to charge $40 for DS games, and they quickly went back down to $30 once they realized people weren't willing to pay that.

I wonder if us Canadians will see an increase in prices, considering we already pay $10 more than in the US, and our dollar is now worth more than the USD.

By less than a penny. $1 US equals $0.9967 CAN, so they are basically the same.

I'm interested to see how much us Aussies will be paying for it.  I'm thinking around the $300-$350 mark.  With games being about $70-90.  I so hope I am wrong though.

Either way, I won't be getting it at launch.  I've never been a handheld fan, and the fact that there is no launch titles that I am interested in, and the rumored battery life issue.  I will be waiting for the 3DS lite/i.
