Tournament style players will now get to experience some level variety.

Almost every level in the Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Wii  U and Nintendo 3DS will feature a "Final Destination Form."In this form, the level will be completely flat and will not contain level hazards while maintaining the theme of the original level.

Players will experience these Final Destination Form levels in the new For Glory, tournament style, mode.

I'm a bit surprised they've included something to make tourney-style play better when it seemed like Brawl did everything it could to prevent it.

It's a nice gesture to those who like playing smash on a more competitive sense.  In college I lived with a tourney-type player, and I'll have that level & music etched into my head forever now.
 
I also love how they just call it "Final Destination" mode.

This announcement in particular made me laugh really hard because while it's a nice gesture, I couldnt' help but feel it's one of the many items in the line of trolling that was this Nintendo Direct.

One thing I like about Sakurai that you don't really see much of from the rest of Nintendo is he likes to give all kinds of options and customization features to his games. Miyamoto's vision tends to be much more of a focused, guided experience, which often works really well, but it's nice to see it this way sometimes too.

Tourny players suck the fun out of the game. Making the stages bland and no items, both of which are key parts of the Smash experience. It's like playing a FPS with no guns, or a wrestling game where all you can do is punch.

Okay, I didn't get to watch the whole Direct, but was there some part of it that said certain content in the game will be gated behind the "Glory" mode? Because if not, it seems pretty childish to be complaining about something that you never have to try even once, won't take away from the game, and will make some other players happy.

Stevey's point and also that I feel that Final Destination is arguably disadvantageous to slower/heavier characters.

If you're character among onther things is easily chaingrabbed you are at a disadvantage.

Okay, I know that I was a bit snarky earlier by saying that this is sorta Sakurai's way of poking fun at the tourney scene, but ultimately I'm not going to knock 'em for what they like.

What I would like to say, Mythendo, is that your analogies are -BAD-. at least with the wrestling analogy, you could have gone with "A wrestling match where nobody is allowed to interfere with the match" or more aptly, something akin to sayyyy... Bomberman with no Skulls or revenge and on a level that doesn't have some sort of ridiculous conveyor belt gimmick or something. The fact of the matter is is that even if Playstation All-stars tried it, there aren't fighters with this very free-form, physics based combo system where guile and mind games rule over dial-a-combo and rationing out meter.

The truth is is that tournaments used to have items, and still sport a large variety of the stages that don't have a gimmick to it that outright kills the flow of the match, and that this 'No Items, Final Destination' thing For Glory I feel is Sakurai's tongue and cheek way of going, "Whatever, you people are going to do whatever the **** you want with this game after I put it out anyway and I heard this is how you like playing it, so enjoy!"

It's a nice gesture, but in a Nintendo Direct that was filled with Sakurai refusing to do the "Directly to you!" hand gesture and him telling us that he cut Zero Suit Samus and having a Waluigi Plush on his desk as he talked about assist Trophies, I feel like "EVERY STAGE IS FINAL DESTINATION" is the crowning cherry on the trolling pie.

To be honest, I sometimes play Final Destination with no items. It gets old, but I like the flexibility of Super Smash Bros. It allows for so many different types of matches.
Because if not, it seems pretty childish to be complaining about something that you never have to try even once, won't take away from the game, and will make some other players happy.
You just described some of the more vocal members of these forums.

I am extremely happy with this. While you guys rage ware between sides I will happily play for glory and for fun! This is something I didn't even realize I wanted! There were many times I thought to myself, I want to enjoy the beauty of Rumble Falls but it's impossible because of how zany it is.

In my home if we have a Smash marathon we go a few matches items, a few matches no items. All the while we rotate between wacky stages and stages like Battle Field or Lylatt Cruise.

This was made for everyone and it's completely optional! It's the equivalent of Miyamoto going, you can turn off the blue shell(which very well may be the case!) and people still seem mad.
Nintendo players and One Piece readers, just better people.

I like this and I would never use it.  Going the extra mile to provide options for a niche hardcore sub-section of the SSB fanbase demonstrates that there is real passion in the development of this game because you would never bother to go to such lengths otherwise.  It's a refreshing change of pace from most of the other Nintendo teams who seem to strive to put in the least amount of effort required to still make a decent game and are annoying inflexible in regards to customization or options particularly when a gimmick control scheme needs to be pushed.  Although they are completely different genres, it reminds me of Xenoblade.  A big reason I liked Xenoblade more than the bulk of the Wii library was how much it offered the player.  Tons of content, complexity and flexibility.  Often the best Nintendo games have that and the worst are one dimensional, dumbed down and inflexible.

I don't like the decision to release it after the 3DS version and I didn't like the wired adapter comments that were made but other than that I really like the direction the game is going in.

I don't get all the hostility towards the people who want to play a more "tourney" style experience.  This is even Nintendo conceding there's a benefit to providing options to both sides.  Don't like it?  Don't play that mode, and stop bitching. 


Thank god Nintendo decided to create an optional fence around the two sides.  It's too bad the "Final Destination" mode also gets rid of platforms.





Ok, I got a good laugh out of that.

But I'm excited this mode exists because it means that Sakurai and the team listen to the fans and are in tune with the culture.  ****, who knows what the hell else they've been listening to.  They also promised no more Subspace Emissary.  So, there's that.

I'm incredibly happy this mode exists - as it suits the style my mates and I play when we have Smash tourney get-togethers. But as some have mentioned, limiting it to just flat stages only kind of bothers me. I'd like the option to use stages with a few platforms, too. Maybe that's in there. We'll see.

And Cater, the beauty of Project M 3.0 for Brawl is that Rumble Falls is made into a more stabilised stage - no more scrolling. It's a three-tiered platform, single-screen arena. Really fun. I'm actually curious to see if the Project M team make changes now based on all of this new info coming out for Smash 4.
