Mafia LVIX: Jurassic Park! Sign-ups are closed.
« on: October 15, 2013, 02:59:58 PM »

My name is John Hammond.

I'm sure many of you have heard of me at this point with all the media hoopla about what has happend on Isla Nublar and what my involvement in the whole thing was all about. Some of it true and much of it fabricated and fantasy as tabloids try and cash in on this whole affair.

I can not sit idly by as the media stirs up fear and lies and am going to set the record straight by giving you my story straight from my mouth about what has occured on that fateful day on Jun. 12, 1993.

To begin, I guess I should start by breifly talking about some of the notable others who were involved in this incident. They were:

Players who have signed up so far:

Pokepal148
Shaymin
NWR_Insanolord
Stratos
ThePerm
Lucariofan99
Stogi
Stevey
Toruresu
lolmonade
nickmitch
Mop it up
Spak-Spang
Thatguy
jrlibrarian
silenced
oblivion

Total of: 17!

These people were all invited by me to Isla Nublar on that day for what I had anticpated to be a most marvelous experience. But it did not go as planned.......

Roles:

Townies

Dr. Alan Grant - Paleontologist aka Detective. The player with the Alan Grant role is able to investigate any player of his choice that day and learn their role. His ability begins as soon as the first day's thread has gone up and he can choose to investigate at anytime during that day and in the night actions. However, he only gets one investigation a day and if he does not send in a request by the time the next day is posted, his missed investigation does not carry over and he can only investigate one person on that new day. The only role he can not identify is the godfather role.

Robert Muldoon - Game Warden aka Vigilante. The player with this role is able to make one hit every day against any player of his choosing. However, he can only kill the mafia members or the killer. If he kills a townie, he dies and is out of the game also. He can send in his hit anytime during the day or night actions but his hit is only carried out after the night action period is over. Morever, he does not have to make a hit if he does not wish to. If he doesn't make a hit for a day, it does not carry over and give him two hits the next day. He is only allowed one a day and must choose if he wants to use or lose it.

Dr. Harding - Veterinarian aka Townie Doctor. Had to take this one from the book since he was hardly shown in the movie. The doctor has the ability to protect someone each day. However, the doctor can only protect them from one event, either getting voted out, getting hit by the mafia or getting hit by the killer. So, if someone was voted out but they also had a hit placed on them that night, then they would survive the vote but die by the hit. The doctor can send his protection in at anytime in the day or during the night action period. The protection is only applied for the same day or night it is given and does not apply to the next day that follows. As well, if the doctor fails to send in a protection or abstains from sending in a protection for a day, it does not carry over. The doctor is only allowed one protection per day and it is up to the player to use it. Finally, the doctor can not protect himself.

Mafia

Velociraptor #1 aka the Godfather. The pack leader of the velociraptors is a cunning killer who leads the pack in hunting and killing their prey. The role of Velociraptor 1 can not be identified by Dr. Grant. As godfather, the player with this role may send in a hit against another player at any time during the day or night actions. The hit is carried out after the night actions have ended. If the godfather fails to send in a hit or chooses not to, the hit does not carry over and he is only allowed one hit again the next day. If the godfather is killed in the vote, he will not get to make a hit that evening. He must inform the host who his replacement will be from his mafia crew to be the new godfather.

Other Velociraptors -  The rest of the mafia will consist of Raptor #2, #3, etc depending on how many players there are. None of these other raptors have any abilities and can be identified by Dr. Grant if investigated. If they inherit the godfather role, that player will be able to send in the mafia hit but does not gain the ability to hide from Dr. Grant's investigative powers.

Other Roles

Tyrannosaurus Rex aka The Killer - Provided there are enough players, this role will also be involved. The player with this role is able to send in a hit every day against any player of their choosing to eliminate them from the game. The hit can be sent in at anytime during the day or night actions. At the end of the night actions, the hit is carried out. If they player is voted out during the day, the hit does not go through. However, to make things a bit more interesting, the killer can accumulate hits. So, if the killer does not make a hit for a day, it would carry over and he could then have two hits the next day and so on and so on. This might give the killer a better chance at survival and makes his role a bit more dangerous. We'll see how this works out.

If you wish to play this game, please say so by signing up to play in this thread and I will add your name to the player's list.

The Rules Of The Game

What is the purpose of the game?

If you are on the townie side, you want to vote out all those on the mafia side and the killer.

If you are on the mafia side, you want to vote out all those on the townie side and the killer.

If you are the killer, you want to vote out all other players.

How do I vote? What is involved?

Each day all players are allowed to vote for whomever they believe is mafia.  Since all roles remain anonymous, mafia members will vote along with the townies.

Each day a new thread will be made and will open up with a narrative.  Each player then has the chance to vote off another player.  Simply type in BOLD for whom ever you wish to vote against. Example: Vote Khushrenada. But that's a bad example. You'd never want to actually vote for me.

You may change your vote as much as you like, but any old votes must remain legible.  Simply edit the post, unbold the vote, and make a new post with the new vote. So, you're old vote should look something like this: un-Vote Khushrenada. That is a much better example of how to play the game.

How is a winner determined?

For the townies to win, they need to eliminate all mafia members and the killer from the game.

For the mafia to win, they only need to tie the game. I.E., there are two townies left and two mafia members left. However, they must also eliminate the killer role as well. They can not win by a tie if one of the other roles is the killer.

The killer wins either by eliminating all other players so that they are the only player left in the game or it is the killer and 1 townie left standing at the end. The killer must eliminate all mafia members.

What happens if the vote is a tie?

In the event of a tied vote, there will be an overtime, sudden death voting period of 30 minutes.  The only vote that may be cast is for one of the players who were tied at the end of voting.

As soon as a vote is cast that breaks the tie, the day vote is immediately ended and the player with the majority is eliminated regardless of how much time is left in the sudden death period. The vote that is cast can either be from a player that hasn't voted yet that day or from a player changing his vote from earlier in the day.

If the tie is unresolved after 30 minutes, then I will unleash my fury on you all and randomly select three people to die. I don't like ties.

Question for nickmitch. You're a regular enough forum goer. Did you just see this thread now or have you thought about joining for awhile?

I'm just trying to figure out how much exposure this thread might have and if I have to maybe try sending out invites instead.

Well, I'm going to put a deadline on this of Oct. 27. We are very close to the precipice of having enoguh people for a good game. If we could get 5 more and get to a 16 player count, I think we'd be set. If we get to the deadline and are still short, I'll make a call on it at that time.

As it is, the way I'm looking at it, this seems likely to be our last mafia game as enthusiasm seems to have waned on it which is fine. People mave on and want to spend their time in different ways. But hopefully, we'll get a few more people to send it off in style.

If there is enough roles you should add the Dilophosaurus which can cancel one vote each day as well as vote themselves as a wildcard character.  seems reasonable and is a cool play of the blinding paralyzing venom of the dinosaur.

Someone requested I show up and join in. I will. A word of warning, though, I start a new job next Wednesday, so there's no telling what that might mean.

I wanted to be one of the "Clever Girl" Velociraptors, but that might conflict with the mafia. Still... I might be that.
