DBZ Battle of Gods.
It's a nostalgia piece and works as that. The animation is absolutely gorgeous, though.

TalkBack / Re: Wii Fit U Free Trial Coming to the eShop on November 1
« on: September 18, 2013, 11:24:17 AM »
I am surprised at nintendo even doing this much. It's baby steps, but it's something. Being able to ingerate with something other than nintendo was too much to ask for though. There's already a lot of pedometer things and little fit bits and nike+ gizmos around and I'm not sure if people will be willing to grab this specific one for a console they don't own yet and a peripheral that's been in their attic for three years.

I will spend $10 on bowling though.

As long as you understand that a year from now it's going to start doing some really weird **** and getting support for it won't be easy then it's definitely worth it. I have the galaxy nexus that I got for around that price and it's good, but it's gotten buggier and buggier.

TalkBack / Re: Wii U Price Drop Announced Alongside Wind Waker HD Bundle
« on: August 28, 2013, 01:01:47 PM »
So does this mean everyone can buy Wind Waker HD off the eShop on Sep. 20th? Or does the bundle just include the digital version on it?

This is exciting news.

The panthers are mediocre and Cam might bet better, but there's still only one dude to really catch passes and the running back situation is a disaster. And the defense is meh.

I don't think Nintendo's problems stem from them being a Japanese company. Plenty of Japanese companies navigate their particular markets better than nintendo does. Korg is still a Japanese as **** company and have managed to figure out how to make waves in other parts of the world. It's different than video games, sure, but I think it's a bit reductive to place Nintendo's problems at being Japanese.  I also don't think they need specifically american influences either. I just think they need someone not from Nintendo and not someone who cater's to Nintendo's Board (who we understand know mostly nothing about video games from the questions they ask during investor's meetings) to take a look at some of their practices.

i'm halfway through Project X Zone and that's about as far as I think I can make it. I've played 20 hours of it and am only on chapter 21 and the chapters seem to only be getting longer and more frustrating. There's no strategy, and the game wants you to grind without actually giving you an opportunity to do so. Every battle goes the same way after somewhere around chapter four or five. You fight a reasonable number of enemies, then double or triple that number spawn in after you've killed a few. It's just so boring. I do not recommend it.

I'm only on chapter 21, but I'm just exhausted at this game. I am finding that all the fun has been zapped out of it at this stage. Every battle goes the same way. You come into the stage, there's way too much talking, then a bunch of enemies spawn in. After a few rounds where you think you are doing well triple the number of enemies show up and you may get one extra support character to deal with it. On top of that, three or four of the enemies are bosses, and if two bosses get near a group of your characters at once it's game over.
I may come back to it, but I just am finding it to be a total slog.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Wonderful 101 matters in America
« on: July 05, 2013, 12:43:17 PM »
That's terrible logic because you don't know why people don't buy individual games. A game can have a number of things going on that turn different people off. That's the case with a lot of games that don't sell well. One group doesn't like the graphics, another thinks the story looks dumb, another doesn't trust the dev or publisher, another just isn't in the mood for another game with a certain type of protagonist, it came out at a weird time of year where people who might be into this are being pulled in different directions and so forth and so on. Wonderful 101 has a great chance at flopping and it won't be because it's a new IP.
It also isn't incumbent on any particular person to buy a game. Voting with your dollars is a myth, because they don't know why you didn't buy the game. And if you send them a letter or an email or post on their forum with the exact reason you didn't buy the game they'll giggle a bit, maybe send you a form letter in return if they're bored and generally ignore you.

And the false dichotomy of core gamers/moms is stupid and needs to stop.

Retail prices drop faster. I got ACIII for $20 from gamestop and it's still $40 on the eshop. So that's my answer. Whatever is cheaper.

If CE:DX isn't involved I have no interest. Championship edition is great, but DX might be the best video game ever made.

Are there more games with this functionality? Why isn't this standard? At least for first party titles.

Remember Me

It's thoroughly mediocre in almost every way. The combat system is combo based, and there are only four combos you can learn. All the fights are arena fights. so you get to a point and progress stops and you have to clear out all the enemies. Later in the game it becomes nearly impossible to actually complete combos because you are swarmed with eight to twelve enemies at once and can't get around them. You have powers you can use to counteract this, but then you'll still have five enemies immune to that power coming at you, and the evade system does not regularly allow you to keep with your combos. It never will if you have to evade twice in a row. So when you need to do combos to refill your health or decrease the cool down time between special moves and can't do them it gets frustrating. Especially in the third wave of enemy encounters.
The game is buggy as ****. I had to restart segments multiple times because a robot enemy would spawn with no A.I. No a.i. meant I couldn't kill it and it didn't move and so I couldn't move on. Tere are segments where enemies get stuck in walls and physically restrict your progress (sentry bots). There's a segment where I couldn't progress because the game wouldn't let me use my gun. It just wouldn't come on. So that was sucky.

I guess people just aren't familiar with sci fi with this exact same plot, but the story is mediocre and boring. I see people praising it and I don't get it. It's not bad, but it's barely competent. It's a generic story about a corporation that stores memories and can remix them and stuff. There's a generic resistance force we see little to none of and some finger wagging and super duper monologueing about philosophy 101 stuff. Kill me. There's nothing new there. And I only like the main character and her mother and that's it. Everyone else is insufferable.
But I mean. Overall I had a decent time with the game. I just don't see how people are so in love with it.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Wii U - a thread with subtitles.

My favorite genres are plain platformers (I don't like the ratchet and clank thing where you shoot more than you jump), zelda style adventure games, devil may cry style action games, and racing games. I don't buy a lot of new games because I don't have the time to play so many each month and I like saving money. So I'm okay with the Wii U and I'm thrilled at all the games announced. Nintendo Direct was cool with me. I'm not burned out on any of those and don't feel like retro owes me anything so I'm not pissed off about donkey kong. Yeah I knew about all of those games, but I always knew about mario kart and zelda and a 3d mario and a mario kart. And I'm okay with getting new versions of those because they'll all be really good games that I can spend a lot of time with. I guess it's just easier to be excited about Nintendo's stuff when you're seriously not interested in the dominant genre and also don't really care about the financial future of the company, or their perception. If they stop making the games I'll stop playing new games and it'll be a bummer but life won't change that terribly much for me.

Intentional or not I skip every bit of story sequence I can. I hate everyone's voices in that game, and I'm not huge into the character designs.

I wonder if cash on hand means a three year life for the Wii U

This is the most exciting news for me out of E3 so far. I'm really glad to see nintendo might actually be giving a damn.

20
I don't see any actual new gameplay experiences on ps4 or xbox one as well. I haven't seen one game from anyone that just has me jazzed outside of "the crew." and that isn't new.

I need peach to be playable in single player mode.

I'm not picking up any next gen system for a couple of years. But the PS4 has final fantasy and out of both console pressers that's the most interesting to me. I'm really not into shooters.

That was fantastic. I don't understand a single thing that happened, but it seemed cool as hell. After they introduced Megaman in smash bros. the feed totally killed itself.
and yes, everything being 2014 is potentially worrisome.
