General Gaming / Re: Backwards Compatibility - Good or Bad?

BC is pretty cool but now that I think about it I don't really use it much for my 360 when I didn't buy the original Xbox. Actually part of the reasons why I initially chose a 360 over the PS3 was because I wouldn't be able to use all my old PS2 games on it. Looking back at it, it was a silly reason and I ended up trading it in to get more games for 360 off the bat. Since I've had a PS3 I've probably bought three HD collections and a few other digital versions of older games that might have saved me a couple of dollars here and there. For the Wii though, being a GCN owner it is convenient knowing I don't have to hook up the older system and the controllers still serve a purpose.

I think my gripes with the press conference was there was nothing that really blew me away about the Wii U or the games that are going to be on it. It's cool that you have some games Wii-only owners never got to play like Batman and Mass Effect 3 but if they were trying to get the core audience or the people who own PS3 or 360 then I think they failed miserably. After mediocre to terrible showings by Microsoft and Sony I really wanted Nintendo to have a great showing to at minimum have something to get excited for going into the fall. I think they should have shown AC III or Darksiders II on stage to show how the Wii U will have an advantage over the other consoles and not games that have been out for almost a year like Batman. There's no real incentive for someone like me who mainly plays on PS3 and 360 to pay probably more than $300 for a new console to play games I could buy for the current consoles. I'm concerned about what will happen once the other new consoles come out; will they completely overpower the Wii U leading to inferior ports?

I'm sorry I can't buy the whole supply and demand theory with Brawl. You can't sit here and tell me the demand is still so high that they couldn't knock the price down to $20. I bought it for around $30 only because it was 40% off at a local K-Mart that was going out of business. Even the cashier was shocked that it was still $50.

As cool as the golden bundle is, I might opt to buy the regular edition instead because my K-Mart has bundles of games with the motion plus for $15 and maybe even wait until after Christmas to buy Zelda since it will probably be $40 (maybe) at some of the after Christmas sales. For Black Friday it really seems like the real steals are with Best Buy and Wal*Mart selling fairly new games for $30 and I'm probably going to pick up Gears 3 and something else.

EDIT: So the check from my job finally arrived and I was in a lousy mood so I went ahead and bought Zelda with the gold remote. It was the last copy of the bundle at my rinky dink Best Buy and it wasn't even in a plastic lock case it was just the cardboard box beat up. But I got a $10 gift card as well so at least I can save some money on Black Friday.

Prime 1 is one of my favorite games ever so it was a huge disappointment when I couldn't get into Prime 2 much. It wasn't even the challenge (I got past boost guardian) that bothered me, it just felt like the same game with less variation and it was so easy to get lost in the world.

I actually had more fun with Sunshine when I initially rented it than I had playing Mario 64. There's a lot of problems with the game including the camera, but I hate how a lot of media outlets gave it 9s and 10s when it came out and now bash the hell out of it. I don't know I just really liked that game.

As far as WW and TP, I guess I liked TP a little bit more even though it was an OOT clone. I enjoyed the scale of the game even though both games were fairly easy even in comparison to OOT, a game I've played through multiple times. Overall, looking back on it GCN was one of my favorite consoles ever and I feel like it was underrated because it didn't have a huge mature game or online and Nintendo made too many marketing mistakes (making the main GCN color purple and not marketing the black system). In a way it kind of angers me that the Wii has had so much success without really being a huge step up from GCN, having the same gaming droughts, and Nintendo becoming lazy in some sense.

I never bought a GBA so this was a cool accessory to have. I remember buying Advance Wars and getting to the last level (before the cartridge disappeared), buying A Link to the Past (which went MIA for years until a month ago when I was cleaning my room), found a copy of Iridon 3D on a camping trip (and then lost it), and bought a used copy of Metroid Fusion (that someone already beat). I remember being sick one time and my mother was bringing me some orange juice that spilled close to my GCN and Fusion was stuck in the GB Player for years. Unfortunately I don't know where my start up disc is so I'll have to buy another one if I ever want to use it again.

Here's a video of the Nightwing DLC

I never picked up Arkham Asylum until earlier this year and it was the GOTY version so I'll probably wait until that or the complete version of this game comes out so I don't have to pay for all the DLC.

I can understand people being mad with lag or slow down but when people are nitpicking about the uppercut sound not being the exact same as the arcade then that's a little ridiculous. I tried the trial version on XBL and from the limited amount that you can play it seemed to play fine but I'm curious about the process it took to put this together. Two of the games were already on online capable systems so why are there horrendous problems now?

With the announcement of Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown I went back and played VF5 for the first time in like two years and it was so different in comparison to some of the other fighting games I've played lately like MK9 and MvC2. I really was rusty. The new version is a downloadable game so it will be interesting to see what features might be missing.

Like VF5, I also was rusty playing the Third Strike trial but it was a great nostalgia trip of playing it in high school. I'll probably buy that and the MK Arcade Collection when I come up on some more money.

Haven't bought any good Wii games all generation but I'll buy this along with Gears 3. Hopefully theyll have a bundle with the motion plus because I don't have that attachment.

But seriously Netherealm has to really improve in order for the next MK game to be something special. This game was fun and worth the value but as a fighting game it's still not as good as Capcom's offering (from the actual fighting standpoint).

I still haven't even bought MvC3 because I didn't feel it had enough content for a $60 game and now I find out that the Third Strike re-release is coming out soon?! I remember playing the hell out of that game and VF4:Evo on my PS2 (haven't played VF5 as much) when I was in high school. I've been playing Mortal Kombat a lot lately but I've cleared through the story mode once already and online is kind of laggy (I'm glad I only paid about $40 bucks for it) but it does have the nostalgic MK feel (which is good and bad). Plus they're also releasing a digital collection of MK,MK II and Ultimate MK III this summer even though I get a feeling that those games will feel very dated after playing the new MK game. I've never been great at fighting games but this is a great time to be a fighting game fan.

Seeing this budget lineup come out now when the Wii is close to the end of its lifecycle is reminds me why I don't buy Wii games. Games that came out last year like God of War III and Heavy Rain were put on the discount line earlier this year but a launch title like Zelda is just finally getting an official discount?

I watched the G4 review and the extended talk back session and obviously the story got on people's nerves to the point where they really didn't talk about the strengths or flaws with the game. It doesn't help that you start the review with "holy crap this game sucks" mainly because they were disappointed about the story. I think the reviewer in the talk back session had a good point about Samus being timid despite the fact that she had saved the galaxy/world multiple times or when facing an enemy she's beaten multiple times. I give Nintendo credit for trying something different in terms of story telling with one of their games especially with another developer but maybe it backfired. G4/X-Play is a little weird sometimes too because I remember during the Prime 2 (which got like a 4 out of 5) review they felt the need to point out that it wasn't new or advanced enough to compete with the likes of San Andreas or Halo 2 or something like that.

At the end of the day renting the game is still an option.

After seeing the video, I can easily say this is the most excited I've been for a game on the Wii, hell it's the most excited I've been for a Nintendo game since Twilight Princess. The game looks like it runs smoothly and it just looks exciting. I don't know if I can really put into words how great this trailer is.

The control scheme makes me think it's going to play like Shadow Complex, which might not be a bad thing even though that was a $10-15 game and I'd expect this to have more content. Is it safe to say that the 2.5D games are going to get played out soon?

I usually won't buy a game solely on a demo but after playing the demo for this game I definitely am picking this up.

General Gaming / Re: Who is going to buy a PS3 Slim?
« on: August 19, 2009, 03:31:25 AM »
The Wii is not cutting it for me, plain and simple.  There are games on the horizon I'm looking forward to but they're too infrequent.  The third party support is crap and is not going to change.  Nintendo's first party releases are now split between the new market and the old so from my perspective their output is decreased.  And realistically I just don't seem to be a priority to them.  They don't care if I'm satisfied or not.  They're making money hand over fist so they're not going to change anything.  I feel like they're taking my support for granted.  But I'll still have my Wii and will buy the titles that do interest me.  Next gen is up in the air though.  Right now I'd say they've lost me for next gen if they maintain the status quo.

And that is the reason why I just have never gotten behind the Wii. I don't even feel compelled to buy games for it. It seems to have the same problems as the GCN (no third party support and long game droughts) but there is also something about it that seems sloppy from Nintendo's standpoint. Maybe it's just how there is a constant lack of quality titles or maybe because I stuck with them during the Cube days (some very dark gaming days) and nothing about GCN quality games being repackaged with new controls excites me, I don't know it's something that's bothered me all generation.

As far as the PS3 Slim, I'm not a fan of the new design but it saves space so it is effective. Too bad there's just not much on the PS3 that interests me aside from MGS4 and having a Blu-Ray player. There's just not enough games I like to justify buying one when I own a 360. I think someone mentioned the price earlier and I think that killed them because if you look at it from a features and durability standpoint it is better than the 360 but the price and initial inferior lineup gave the 360 the edge (and was part of my reason for buying one).

As a 360 owner, I'd be happy to get MGS4 but I'm not holding my breath on this being fact. I doubt this would be a huge detriment to Sony or the PS3 because the game has been out for almost a year. I don't even know if 360 owners care that much if it comes out for their system or not.

MGS4 is Spiderman 3

So you're saying it's a good thing I didn't spend my money on a PS3?

General Gaming / RE: Looks like Capcom still hates money.
« on: February 15, 2007, 12:51:04 PM »
Meh I won't say that Capcom hates money. This is the same company who had someone say that if a game came out onto another system he would cut his head off. This is also the same company that constently makes rehashes of series year after year and has ported games to other consoles multiple times. They make some dumb decisions like Sega and to be honest I'm not too fond of them, but to say that they hate money is pretty bold.
