General Gaming / Re: How should I pick up Chrono Trigger and FF:IV
« on: April 17, 2011, 06:45:39 PM »
For Chrono Trigger it doesn't matter which version you play as long as you play it.  The game's pretty much the same on SNES/VC and DS so play whatever's more convenient for you.  If you do a lot of gaming on the go or if you play in short bursts the DS version might be your best bet.  If you sit down on your couch to play for an hour at a time the VC/SNES version would probably be preferable.

For FF IV, it really depends on how much you like classic SNES RPGS.  If you like them in their original version, get either the VC release or the GBA port.  They're both good, but since they were released at the beginning of the SNES' life they're a touch more antiquated than Chrono Trigger.  If you prefer a modern coat of paint on your classic RPG the DS version is going to suit you better.  Are you planning on playing the games back-to-back (or in tandem)?  If so, you might want to opt for the DS version of FF IV just so you don't burn out on classic RPGS.

And while you're at it, don't forget Dragon Quest V!

Has anyone tried the Wiimote Controler Holder? If so, is it hard plastic or fabric? How useful is it?

Zach did an unboxing blog about it last year.

Then people would likely call just the "Nintendo" for short (or VGS to seperate it from the NES).

Sounds too similar to the VES and VCS.

I have 3 monitors (home, work and laptop) and the word "machine" appears on the second line on all of them.

Don't trust insanolord--he's Staff, not a Mod.  I'm you're best bet.  I only accept cash.

No, we can't do that.  The word "machine" flows into the second line of your title.  We can't enter line breaks in titles, so it would read as follows.

Curled up under the dart
machine.  NWA Staff

If you pick a shorter title we'd be happy to oblige.

Then why don't you just buy one off of eBay?

Methinks that's a pretty poor exchange rate you got there, pal.

The Game & Watch DS games cost 800 points which is the same as the Hanafuda cards.  This open pack of Club Nintendo Hanafuda cards just went for $41.00 on eBay.

For what it's worth, the same seller also sold his 2010 Club Nintendo Platinum prize (the statue) for $37.54.  I still got mine in the coin box (both mint).  Now I'm considering selling it since I have little use for it.

Goddammit, who beat me to changing UncleBob's name to UncleBoob? I just had that idea, and then I go to do it and it's already there. At least I got to add the appropriate avatar.

That would be Crimm.  Learn to use the profile tracking feature, newb.

Club Nintendo just changed the page layout to tell you how many coins you have that will expire on June 30.

I've got 610 that are about to go the way of the dodo.  The question becomes, do I redeem for something now or hold out for a couple months to see if something new comes along?  The longer I wait the more I risk anything remotely interesting running out of stock.  Problem is, there's hardly anything available that's remotely interesting.  :(

I don't believe there's anyway to delete all traces of your account, though, without manually going in and removing individual posts - Something I'm not going to do...

He's only got like 13 posts.  It wouldn't take that long.

How do I determine how many of my coins are going to expire on June 30?

From the FAQ on Club Nintendo:

Quote
Why are my Coins listed with an expiration date?

Unredeemed Coins will expire two (2) full Club Nintendo years (July 1 - June 30), plus whatever is left in the current Club Nintendo year, after they are earned. Example: Coins earned in March 2009 would not expire until June 30, 2011.

I currently have 1,770 coins in my account.  I don't see an expiration for any of them, but presumably at least 600 of them should expire at the end of the Club year because I've achieved Platinum status every year.  I guess I'm going to have to redeem some of them but I don't know how many.

This is the first show I've listened to in a while so I'm not familiar with what you did a few episodes ago.

I don't mean any disrespect--lord knows you do a better job than I ever could.  But I didn't sign up for something I wasn't prepared to do every week.

It seems that Staff Blog got assimilated into TalkBack.  I don't approve.

I have a feeling the townies either have this vote, or they are totally confused.

I have a feeling that the mafia either will win, or they will lose.

What's with the lazy editing?

There were several portions of the show that should have been edited out.

- Zach getting disconnected and repeatedly saying "hello?"
- Andy complaining about "robot voice" and Nathan responding that it was fine
- Andy stopping mid-sentence and then repeating what he had just said

They break up the flow of the conversation and it sounds unprofessional.

This ends this hour and twenty minute podcast.
It won't be that long--I'll take a machete to it."

black fairy tales are better at sports

This is quite possibly the funniest thing Perm has ever said.

I played a live action mafia game at a Halloween party last year. It takes all the strategy out of the game. There's no equivalent to the PM system we have here, so nobody can really conspire, which is bad all around, but especially bad for the mafia.

I'm a bit late in responding, but there is strategy, it's just very different than the kinds used in the forum version.

In the live version the host tells the townfolk to go to sleep (close their eyes) and then the mafia wake up and perform their hit.  The version I played didn't have a godfather, so the mafia would have to debate about who to kill with pointing and wild gesturing (while trying to remain silent because they were surrounded by townies with their eyes closed).

Then when the selection was made (and after the cop/doctor performed their night actions) everyone would wake up and the host would announce the results.  Then the arguing would commence.  Mafia members had to coordinate with each other on the fly while not drawing attention to themselves by obviously working together.  Lots of yelling ensued.

It was fun because there were no private discussions (PMs) so everything had to be done out in the open.  And since we all knew each other, it was easier to tell when someone was lying than it is in the forum version.

of course Picross 3D 3D!

I don't see how that could work--the top screen is 3D and the bottom screen it the touch screen.

General Chat / Android phones & apps thread
« on: March 30, 2011, 04:01:09 PM »
Do we really not have a topic for Android phones?  Rather than post this in the Verizon thread, I might as well start a new topic for Android phones & apps.

Has anyone else downloaded the newly released http://www.amazon.com/mobile-apps/b/ref=topnav_storetab_mas?ie=UTF8&node=2350149011]Amazon Appstore?

Normally, I'm not sure why I'd want to buy something from here instead of the regular Android Market.  However, Amazon has a free app of the day that's definitely worth checking out.  They just launched the service last week and so far I've downloaded the following (all for free):
  • Angry Birds Rio ($0.99 regularly)
  • Angry Birds Seasons ($0.99 regular)
  • Doodle Jump ($0.99 regularly)
  • Shazam Encore ($4.99 regularly)
  • Sound Hound Infinity ($4.99 regularly)
There have been a couple other apps available for free that I haven't downloaded because I wasn't interested in them, but so far the lineup has been pretty stellar.  Sound Hound Infinity is free for the rest of the day (and Angry Birds Rio has been free for the past week but I'm not sure how much longer that deal will be available) so you should check it out if you're interested.

Hey everyone, it's minigame time!

First, the results. The answers to the questions are as follows:
1. 16 or 17 would be accepted, since it is debatable if a Mii counts.

I know I'm dead, but shouldn't the answer to the first question be 18?  Did you forget Bowser?

I got them for free; doesn't seem right to try to profit off them.  I'd rather they go to someone on the forums who wants them.
