Title: How PR Companies Butter Up Mr. Lindemann
Post by: Pale on November 30, 2009, 05:08:30 AM
http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/blogArt.cfm?artid=20436

Last month we discussed stuffed Squeeballs. Did that blatant PR stunt work? Based on the talkback responses to that blog post, I'd say that it did.  This month we'll examine another publisher's attention grabbing attempt; Aksys Games.

You know it has gone too far when they don't even bother talking about their games.  Instead they opt to go right to NWR's boss, Mr. Jon Lindemann, and butter him up with blind praise that will only bloat his already inflated opinion of himself.

In this way, Aksys Games will remind Jon every month just how totally awesome he is.  Jon, I'll make sure to include this in the package with the next Aksys game I ship for you to blindly give a perfect 10 review.

January Lindy February Lindy March Lindy April Lindy May Lindy June Lindy July Lindy Jon Lindy September Lindy October Lindy November Lindy December Lindy

Note:  For those that don't see the humor here, it is important that I note that the contents of this blog post are made in jest. We at NWR take our reviews seriously.  While we enjoy these entertaining items that publishers and PR companies ship out to us, we always take steps to ensure that they will not affect our review scores in any way.

Did they even send a game with this?

Aksys is weird...

Nope, no game.  The front says "Happy Holidays" so I guess they are calling it an Xmas Card.

When they said "Name your price", I only had two words: personalized calendar.

I heard Brian Crecente got a personalized daily calendar.  You sold out for too little.

This one's just sad.  Also, it's an ugly calendar.  Maybe it's the name, maybe not.  I can't say.

Squeeballs was original, at least.

I wonder what Kojima/Konami sent out to media outlets for MGS4.

...that thought of it just scares me.

Can i become non-executive director for a while so i can contribute some european perspective alongside Lord Greg blag some free stuffs?

EDIT: And Pale's post breaks one of the prime Funhouse Rules. Jon Lindemann, director of Nintendo World Report dotcom, must always be referred to in the full title such as Jon Lindemann, director of Nintendo World report dotcom. Call it a Funhouse-Honorary Knighthood.

How egotistical do you have to be to want a calendar with your name on it? I kind of feel like this item is an insult to Lindy.

I think it's totally hilarious and completely ridiculous.  When a company does it I think it's funny, but if somebody I know gave this to me as a Christmas gift I'd be horrified.

What creeped me out was the baseball player with 25 on the back of his jersey.  That's the number I always use in sports games, since it's the day of the month my birthday falls on.  For example, in NHL 09, my jersey says LINDEMANN 25 on the back.  When I saw that the player in the calendar had that same number, I did a double-take!  Too creepy!

It's an optical illusion.  I see the number "2," which I wore on jerseys whenever I had the chance.  You see whatever number you're used to seeing.  For instance, Pale sees "00."

Atleast it wasn't full of pictures of you and your family that you don't ever remember taking.

Like you and the wife sitting on the couch watching TV and the pic looks like it's from just outside the window, or you and your niece playing in the park and the pic taken from behind some bushes or up in a tree.
Now that would be creepy.

Jones 27 totally photobombed your calendar.  Actually, I like how people are trampling over your name in May.

Kairon's mother likes ordering personalized calendars and things as gifts for friends and relatives.

Do you have something against Kairon's mother?

It would have been funny if they had misspelled his name... they would have had to retake all those photos!

I almost missed the sneaky bucket hat action in the background.

The BucketHat looks like it is slowly creeping out from behind the calendar when you look at the pictures in sequential order.

Does 00 have the same toilet co-notation where you live? (in German 00 is a brand of toilet cleaner so labeling something 00 is colloquial for "toilet")

Call it a Funhouse-Honorary Knighthood.

If you were really knights, you'd be wearing iron pants!

BTW, the really creepy thing to me would be knowing the sender had my address...
