GoldenEye 007 Is No Longer a Nintendo Exclusive
« on: July 27, 2011, 02:32:54 AM »

Eurocom is working on an enhanced version of GoldenEye 007 for the PS3 and 360.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/blog/27271

Eurocom’s reimagining of GoldenEye 007 will no longer be a Wii and DS exclusive. The developers are currently working on remaking the game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Titled GoldenEye 007: Reloaded, the remake promises enhanced graphics and better online support, with more multiplayer modes and the ability to support up to sixteen players online. The game is currently scheduled for release this fall.

With the relatively good sales of GoldenEye 007 on the Wii, I’d imagine that Activision is hoping to profit even further for the IP’s nostalgia. Though, I’m puzzled that they would decide to release the game around the same time as they release the next Call of Duty game. It seems like they are setting the game up to fail against one of their very own properties.

I would've picked this up if I hadn't already played the hell out of the Wii version. Fun multiplayer, good visuals and a great campaign made it a cool game, but not good enough for a re-purchase, even with the new content.

It is news about an announcement about a game being released on 360/PS3. Not exactly at the top of our queue.

Which would be what? GameInformer?  They're the only ones I've seen anywhere who gave a less-than-great impression of the Wii version (I think GI gave the game a 6/10 or so).

I've seen a lot of sour grapes from Wii fans when it comes to this project.  All I can say to that at this point is "Welcome to modern gaming!  What kept you?"  Unless you are a first party developer (or are being published by one of the 1st party developers), no one makes retail games exclusive to any one console anymore if they can help it.  It's just not profitable anymore.  Even the downloadable titles are starting to lose exclusivity and are now appearing on competing platforms.

The Wii had some semblance of exclusivity for a time because there was previously no way to get around the interface problem with the pointer.  But with the Move; Kinect; and heaven knows what other interface devices now out or on the horizon, Wii owners should get used to this, because this isn't likely to change with the Wii U.

I don't know why Activision would bother making a prettier port of the game unless it is relatively trivial for them to do. My big question is, "how much will Reloaded cost?" I would imagine the port will preform as well as James Bond 007: Blood Stone did if it comes out at US$60.

The people who complained about this last year will get to play it, so good on them but... Is releasing this now on those systems a good idea? Sure, GoldenEye was a good game but when it's on the HD consoles THIS fall, I fear that it's going to get stomped out by Modern Warfare 3, Battlefield 3, and numerous system exclusives like Gears of War 3 and Uncharted 3. (So many threes...) Not to mention other big-name titles like Skyrim.
This is where I would write something witty or funny if I had any ideas.

But why would anyone want to release a game on a system and make little money? (Note: comment is only referring to the Wii right now, not several years ago)

The only problem I have with this is that it is going to have more features than the Wii version does, that just feels like undermining people who bought the Wii game.

They did this last year when Goldeneye launched on the Wii right around when Black Ops released. That worked out for them, so maybe they figure it will work out yet again.

Why is it in the queue at all? How does this news matter to Nintendo fans?

You answered your own question:

Also, that's why it was posted as a blog (which is not limited to Nintendo).

Its pretty much their way of consolidating them in one place so everyone can see them and not avoid them when the blog posts were in its own section of the forum.

Which is fine.  Just which there was a clearer blog indicator up at the article top.

I doubt it will do that well. The people who liked it on the Wii (and there were a lot of them, at least in the press) will like it, but I can't imagine people will be that excited for a port of a Wii game, no matter how good it is.
