Nintendo has announced their first plans for E3, and we will have an extended look at the next Smash Bros game.

A pre-launch tournament for Super Smash Bros Switch and the first Splatoon 2 World Championships will be held in Los Angeles on June 11 and 12. The Smash Bros tournament will be an invitational, similar to a tournament held before the release of the Wii U and 3DS versions in 2014.

As with ARMS, online qualification will be held for spots in the Splatoon 2 worlds from North America. The open qualification will be held on April 21, with the finals to be held a week later on the 28th.

It's funny. I was just scanning the NWR headlines and saw Smash Bros. tournament for E3 and thought nice, nice. Then I re-read it and saw it said Smash for Switch, then I went "Oh, Oh, Oh!"  Really interested now. With the Treehouse and tournaments, I'm glad Nintendo has decided to schedule activities that we can watch during E3. While not everything is a home run, it really adds to the fun and interest for me.

This is pretty great that we'll be seeing it be played at E3.  I was honestly only expecting trailers.  I hope the full roster isn't revealed though because that would spoil all the pre-release fun.

Makes sense though, right?  E3 maybe have a more comprehensive trailer that lets out the full finished title along with an exciting new character announcement, and then release the press to play it on a ton of kiosks.

Yeah, but you can do sample of the final roster with the core characters you'd expect to return, a few re-tooled characters and like 4 new ones.  Enough to make a fun tourney, but not too much to spoil the slow reveal.  One of the best times to be a Nintendo fan is the time between a Smash Bros announcement and the release.  So, I'm hoping they let us enjoy the ride.
