The Famicast returns hot on the heels of the Great 3DS Nintendo Direct of ’16! *note* The episode was recorded before the unveiling of Super Mario Run on iOS.

Obviously the massive number of games and other news tidbits dropped in the Direct take center stage during this show, so strap in for a pretty intense look at the future of the handheld. While most of you are probably aware, the Japanese and English language Nintendo Directs tend to be a little different from each other so we’ve made sure to cover all the Japanese exclusive stuff that might have slipped past you!

We follow up that news blowout with a quick look at what the Famicrew have all been playing these last few weeks, which is an eclectic mix as usual with RPGs, shooters, fighters, MOBAs and platformers all getting some love.

Will Japan go crazy for Monster Hunter Stories, with crazy lineups like you see for mainline Monster Hunter games?
Or are the changes in tone/genre/difficulty enough to reduce interest level in that game at events like TGS?

I think that Stories has the potential to be pretty popular with younger gamers here. Being a teacher, I've talked with plenty of young kids that are interested in and play mainline Monster Hunter games, but they're nowhere near as crazy about it as older kids/adults. This could be the perfect bridge. It's got the name and from what I played last year, the gameplay was pretty fun, too.


I don't think that it'll sell gangbusters like the mainline games or even get the kind of treatment that the main games get at TGS. Last year's booth area for Stories was pretty damn small. I'm guess it'll be bigger, but not the full fledged kind of space that we're used to seeing.
